to use Newman to return punts?
Don't mess with the Defense
Put Barber or someone back there.
Newman has been great, no need to get him jacked up.
Yeah , no Newman. We don't need our D to get jacked.
I'd like to see Price back there. Most likely will see Glenn or Barber.
I hope so. He tore it up in college.
BP mentioned A. Glenn as a KO guy early in the season. He is not a punt returner.
Actually, last week when Bill was complaining about Crayton's fumbling problems on punt returns and said he was considering replacing him, he mentioned Newman and A. Glenn as being the guys who he would put back there instead of Crayton. They were working Barber back there some in the preseason, but I think Glenn and Newman will probably have to sure the punt return duties with Crayton gone.
I think Barber has put himself firmly in the running. Wasn't he doing that in the preseaon anyway? I think Marion is going to be hard to keep off the active roster after today, and the punt returns could fall to him by default because we know how much Bill loathes using someone as valuable as Newman there constantly....Besides, the way the defense is playing lately, punt return is getting a lot of action
What about Copper? I don't remember trying him. Did he stink?
A. Glenn should return the punts now and once in awhile, stick T-Newman back there...
If Crayton goes on IR we will likely call up Rector or Crowder, so they'd be in the mix too.
Good call on Rector. I had forgotten about him. And I think Mosely might have just recently mentioned that he was looking good in practice. Not like I'm in a hurry to rush Crayton to the IR though.
If Roy is on KO how is Newman too valuable for PR?
No, no, no.
(would have put just one no, but my message was too short - sorry).
The three best remaining punt returners on the squad are TNew, TGlenn, and Price. Because we cannot afford to lose TNew or TGlenn, I think it will be Price. We'll see.
Arron Glenn though has returned punts before as well.
I sure hope so. If it wasn't too much for Deion then it won't be too much for TNew. And I don't think any of us would argue that TNew is more valuable than Primetime was in Atlanta, San Fran or in Dallas. In Atlanta Deion even handled some KR duties. TNew can do it especially since teams have not been testing him anyway, it allows him to stay in the game mentally and not get bored like Randy Moss does or Deion used to.
I agree and think Newman will get some chances at returning punts but I don't think he will become a full time punt returner for the Cowboys
My prediction would be a T New/Marion Barber combo.
But Im not sure if Marion Barber is shifty enough. I think hed be best suited for KR
