PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles have released former All-Pro right guard Shawn Andrews.
The former first-round pick has played in just two games in the past two years because of back injuries. He missed the 2008 training camp because of depression.
The Eagles announced the move on Wednesday.
"We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was in Philadelphia," Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "We have, however, decided to move in another direction."
Andrews, the 16th overall selection in the 2004 NFL draft, was moved to right tackle last summer to replace longtime starter Jon Runyan. However, he never played a down.
Andrews made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and '07 and had a contract that ran through 2015.

Do yall think he's worth a look at or is he done??????

Eventually, people will quit repeating the "Kosier must be replaced" mantra with something that actually makes sense.

Doesn't anyone remember how aweful the line was without Kosier? How happy most of us where to have him back beside Flo?

Is that a testament to Kyle Kosier's supposed greatness or Montrae Holland/Corey Proctor's lack thereof?

The Cowboys are giving serious consideration and attention to interior linemen during the draft process. I assume that's for a reason.

Wow, that guy was supposed to a Larry Allen type of Gaurd. I don't think it was just Back injuries, but his supposed depression issues etc. a big concern.

Dallas really wanted to pick him the draft but never got a chance. I guess Whew!! I guess Iuapati is gone to Eagles if not someone before Eagles. But Maurkice Pouncy is getting a lot of traction now the draft as mid first rounder, since he is more valuable OL, due to his ability to play two different positions.

yep, back injury and remember he also had a serious ankle injury too. he is done. Other reports too have him no longer interested in football either.

I would still take a flier on him on an incentive based contract, especially since he has played guard and tackle.

If you're chosing to wait it out and go shopping in the bargain bin of free agency, these are the kind of prospects you're looking at ... guys with red flags. We wouldn't have gotten Sensabaugh so cheap last year if it weren't for his penchant for luxory automobiles and semi-automatic rifles.

I don't know about him being great. But he's been solid. I know he's not nearly as good in the run game as in pass protection but you're right in stating that there is a strong need for an upgrade in depth at guard.
