The Dallas Cowboys have the 17th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but that may not be good enough for owner Jerry Jones.

The Cowboys have several players scheduled to become free agents next month, and they may have to replace some of that talent in the draft. A source close to the team told Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network that Jones “wants to make a big splash” on draft day, which could mean Dallas is going to explore moving up the board.

According to Pauline, the Cowboys have done a lot of scouting work on Ohio State prospects. The biggest Buckeyes prospect is obviously defensive end Chase Young, but he is expected to go as high as No. 2 to the Washington Commanders. It would take a massive haul to move up from No. 17 to No. 2, so that seems unlikely for the Cowboys.

However, they could target Ohio State star cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, who is considered the best defensive back in the draft. Landing him would certainly qualify as a “big splash” for Dallas.

They'd be really stupid to trade all the way up to #3/4 to get Okudah. No corner is worth that.

But of course they're going to "explore." Every team in the league in this situation would.

Agree! Though when they moved up to get Mo I honestly thought he would be worth it and was a lock down stud. I'll take the hit on that completely.

This is all of the plan, release something that says he's going to make a big splash and that becomes the big splash. It's all part of the same BS network to make sure he and the Cowboys are being talked about all the time. "Look out now, look out, you can't touch this, watch me now, never underestimate ole PT Booger".

Drafts 17-19 were ho hum so now they need some pizazz.

The problem is he's dumb enough to do anything and there's no one there to stop him.

You are not alone. The problem is Claiborne was on a D better than the one he was coming to in Dallas, same thing with Spears. Be careful of players on great D's and make sure you get the best player on it. Claiborne and Spears were not the best players on those LSU D's.

That Ohio State D was loaded. They could have 2 of the top 3 picks off that D.

Wait until they say: Okudah is the best corner we have scouted since... checks notes... Morris Claiborne, who was the best corner scouted since... checks notes... DEION SANDERS! Worth the trade up!

They don't learn their lessons so it wouldn't surprise me.

Okudah is a stud though.

If we're moving up to pick 3 or 4 it better be for a QB.
