Are the Cowboys bidding against themselves for Dak?

I've always been a supporter of Dak and have followed him since his junior year at Mississippi State. The guy is tougher than a frozen $2 steak, but this whole contract thing is starting to sway my opinion on him and his value to this team.

Dak plays behind arguably the best OLine in football with arguably the best running back in football & had one of the best receiving cores in football last year. He played well and put up excellent stats, but in my opinion it's very hard to evaluate his value because of all the talent around him. If the boys sign him to a massive deal - they are guaranteed to lose at least some of that talent & probably go right back to cap hell like they have been in for a decade+

Very difficult decision, but I may be selling my Dak stock and I wouldn't be mad at a franchise tag + trade scenario. Like Emmitt said - he needs to consider all of the endorsements he gets due to being the face of the Dallas Cowboys, that wouldn't be the case on any other team.

Well to me it is what are the TEAM goals, which is to win a SB. So if they feel they can achieve that by surrounding a QB with the best team then go for it

amd that is still not the same that you can plug and play any QB, you still need a good one that can’t drove the team. And Dak gives you that. He is not Brady or someone like that in their prime. But he is a sold winning QB.

Some think you can plug and play A RB but that is not really the case either. It is just the “in” thing to say for fans to justify their own cause.
But if you have a team, you still want a decent QB which is what Dak is.

I want to say this is all the agent, Todd France, but Dak is the ultimate boss. In a normal situation it would be, "he needs to consider if he wants to continue to play for the Cowboys," but this isn't a normal situation. This is a Jerry, "I love Dak like my own son," situation. And Dak will use that, and Jerry's "Super Bowl Revenge tour," against him.

Now after reading they MAY add another play-off game, I can see Dak wanting more, but then there's no guarantee he ever plays in another play-off game, especially if his contract creates the necessity of letting free agents go or starting a minor rebuild.

In terms of the extra game, that shouldn't really effect things IMO. From what I understand, they will be adding a game but losing a Preseason game so it's not necessarily like just having to play another full game. Your point about will he or will he not play in another playoff game is also valid.

I said it back when Dak was starting to make a name in 2016. You have all the talent on offense surrounding you, we must not misjudge Dak's individual talent from the offense working as a whole. And towards the end of the year I was warming up to the idea he may be another hit, but never dismiss the flaws that were present. 4 years later and a lot of personnel changes in favor of him have sealed my opinion on what he is and may become. Some believe Dak can be that guy or already is and I just can't see it that way right now.

You're right. I forgot the preseason game they'll lose. Slipped my mind. That is a good point. He won't be playing any extra games.

Yes and no. The "market" has set the benchmark for what starting QB's get.
Wentz, Goff and Wilson have shown what is the starting point is.
And every year, the rates go up with the cap always being increased.

What we don't know is the true holdup is.
1. Is it guaranteed money and how it's structured?
For example, is there a dispute on when or how much becomes guaranteed for injury or being on the roster X days from the new year?
2. Is the issue over the signing bonus?
The amount Dak takes home as soon as he signs the contract, and what is prorated over the contract for cap purposes?
3. Is it purely over AAV?
Doubtful, as total money means very little without guarantees.
4. Is it over term?
Possibly, as the new CBA should see a boost in cap ceiling based off TV contracts and maybe a readjustment of how revenue is split between players and team. Team wants term, Dak doesn't, or so we've heard. IS there a compromise there that effects 1-3?

In regards to signing bonus, there's a huge discrepancy on what Wentz got compared to Wilson.

Both sides have and will probably continue to leak half truths out there the longer this draws on.

Without knowing why this is being held up, I'm not too upset at either side.

,
simple

YES!

less simple,
no because it's his demands and Dak has the FT to get more then what he wants over 2-3 seasons...

if I were the DC FO I go back and say that last deal is final...thats it, take it or we FT you and let you seek trades while we get a journeymen and a draft pick to start the process should you hold out..

THE ODDS OF A TEAM GIVING UP 2 FIRSTS AND A BIG DEAL TO DAK ARE WAY LOW..ITS LOW RISK TO OFFER HIM THE CHEAPER NON EXCLUSIVE TAG..

BESIDES,

We need a good backup anyway and drafting another 4th rounder would be prudent..maybe a Hurts or Fromm are there?

Not that is should matter either way, but many of the top players don't play in many of the preseason games. So, this is an extra game, all things considered.

I mean, we think right? To this point, I believe that nothing has been confirmed as yet but that's what I've heard being reported.

I don't think you are really asking me but I will give my opinion on this. I personally don't believe Dak has nearly as much leverage as many here might believe, I think his next contract (in a few years if he can swing it) is where he has major leverage. What I think is happening is that he and his agent are trying to wait to see what the other FA QBs sign for this year. I think they feel like they have what they've been offered on lock down. They can't go down, they can only go up, based on what somebody else might sign for this season.

That's true, but then again, you can't really say it's an extra game because there is no guarantee that we are in the playoffs to play an extra game. Besides, if you are lucky enough to play an extra game, then you are compensated for that game either way because players get paid for playoff games, aside from their contracts I believe. So actually, they are already getting compensation there, to an extent.

Well, maybe, maybe not..... Chuck, I may not not know what the hell I'm talking about here. I'm just commenting off of what I've heard reported. It could be 100% wrong and you could be 100% right come tomorrow Brother.
