Tom Brady made millions before he started taking a discount plus his wife makes more money than he does. You can’t be asking Dak to take a discount on his first big contract. He hasn’t been pocketing the money Brady did all those years and he doesn’t have a rich wife.
Brady has been taking discounts from the start and never insisted on a maxed out contract.

Show me where he took a discount on his first big contract. According to this article he’s made 197 million over the course of his career. They estimate he’s taken 60 million in discounts but that didn’t start until later. He can afford to take discounts with the amount of money his wife makes. Gisele makes at least 30 million a year.

Brady's first big contract was in 2002: 5 years, 30.52 mil. Previously, Bledsoe's contract was for around 10 mil/season, Brady gave a huge discount.

His second big deal was in 05, a restructure. 6 years, 60 mil. Payton was on a 7 year, 98 mil contract at the time. Another huge discount for Brady.

The discounts were there from the start.

Brady can afford to take discounts w/ the money he's made.

Spin what you want but the discounts weren’t there from the start. The article projected Brady’s non-discounted years by keeping his rookie deal and first extension the same, so there was no discount on his first extension. He couldn’t command top dollar until he won multiple Super Bowls because he wasn’t an established QB like Bledsoe and Peyton Manning who were #1 overall picks. Brady was a sixth round pick and one Super Bowl win where he entered the season in relief wasn’t going to get him paid like Bledsoe and Manning. Brady wasn’t able to command top contracts until 2005 when he had won three Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVP awards.

Why should Dak take less? Jerry, Stephen and the Cowboys certainly won’t pay more than they can afford.

The NFL is a business...accept it and get over it.
Afford?
You mean more than the cap will allow right?
If your suggesting getting over that Jerry made a significant blunder... oops.
Signing strategy, build strategy, cap management 101 in reverse order, then no, don't expect fans that have even a basic understanding of how the cap works and how you have to build and sign properly, to just get over it.
Jerry went backwards, this will go down as one of the biggest offseason failures because of it.
Dak should have been taken care of first and foremost but instead Jerry wanted to get cute and take care of less significant players first and its a pie in the face now for ole Jerry that will come out all butt hurt in the near future saying how much it hurts his heart that a player like Cooper can not be resigned.

@Frozen700 I thought you said #dontpaydak???

Yeah, most definitely.

But if we are stuck with dude, take less bum. So we can build on D, and actually have a team that can carry your bum ***. (Not directed at you, but Dak)

It's still team DontpayDak. I hope he gets pissed and wants to leave.

Skip is right. The more Dak wants the more people we lose, like Cooper

Brady way makes sense. 9 Superbowl appearances. Why wouldn't you want to replicate that.

Zeke should have taken less but that is not the precedent that was set. So Dak shouldn't take less either. He needs to do just as Zeke did. Hold out, get paid and then underachieve, or not.

He hasn’t earned being the top paid player in the NFL

Where in my post did I say he deserved to be paid as the top player in the NFL . Dak has earned an significant increase in pay . If he signed for 27 mil that is a fair price and a significant pay increase over 650K . It also isnt the type discount Brady gave at 23 mil while being the GOAT , But not the highest player in the NFL either .

For those who are struggling to understand this whole thing . Dak has earned a significant pay increase. No matter if its 23 mil like Bradys discount or 35 mil like the highest paid player or somewhere in between . THE INCREASE OVER 650K is so GREAT THAT IT WILL IMPACT THE OTHER TALENT WE CAN SIGN .

This is not Daks fault that Jerry chose to waste Daks rookie contract with his hand picked friends and family coaching staff . Then make it worse and drag his feet when he could have signed him cheaper . We need to pay him or break down use a 1st round draft pick and start over , really that simple and there are no guarantees no matter what you do .

If you want to be mad and blame , Blame Jerry for not having the forethought to handle this situation better .

Emmitt had proved he deserved top pay
So? If his entire point is to take less for the overall good of the team then it shouldn’t matter what he deserved. He held out of GAMES until he was the highest paid RB. Tom Brady proved his worth but took less pay for years to win more championships. Emmitt is a hypocrite, lost a lot of respect for him.

Jerry has offered him a very nice pay increase and Dak/his agent have rejected it

Brady is also smart , and he likes to win SB's , so that factors into his taking less money.
But he knew he had a good shot every year with bill and usually back then a very good team.
He threatened to leave because of last year he had no weapons.

WHOA whoa whoa... reload on SMITH? EMMITT SMITH? EmmITT Smith is the main reason you HAVE 3 of those 5 superbowls to cheer about. he is a HUGE part of the reason the cowboys are still a household name. Emmitt SMith was worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY we paid him and THEN SOME. he was a superstar.

you ask one of TODAY"S Player to play his heart out with a dislocated shoulder to get us HFA in the NFC CHampionship game because NO ONE ELSE could have. THEN LETS SEE if they are worthy to hold Emmitt's shoulder pads.
Jaylon Smith. LOL

Just out of curiosity, and not really pertaining to the original subject matter, what is the number that stands between being able to and not being able to afford a discount?

Why didn't Troy, Emmitt, Romo, D-Law and Zeke take less? Why didn't they give the team a discount?

Oooh, but Dak all of a sudden should?

Not that I agree with Dak requesting top pay, but how can one player demand that of Dak when they didn't do that themselves?

I have no problem demanding 35-40 million.......I merely have a problem with the Cowboys caving in to it. I have zero problem with letting the market decide his fate.

Agree. Anyone who doesn't is simply placed on ignore & have all the haters weeded out.

Not interested in their opinion, negativity nor hate for our young quarterback. Because guess what? Neither is Dak & the Cowboys lol.

Both sides will come to an agreement shortly before March 10th deadline & this topic will be water under the bridge.

Sadly this forum is becoming reflection of social media, college campuses and certain segments of society. No respect or tolerance for critique or opposing views. Id like to think the majority here doesn't think that way here. I, for one, don't feel that way. There are many here I disagree with, but unless they break forum rules, I welcome their viewpoints

People act like it's no big deal.

I'm listening to local radio last night and they're just like well he's next man up so you gotta do it.

Dak and his agents will try to get the best deal they can get.
The Cowboys will try to get the best deal they can get.

Either both sides will come to an agreement or they will not.

Trying to belittle one side or the other side is kind of silly at this point.

Both are trying to do what is best for themselves.

It's called business.
