At some point, you are just negotiating with yourself . . . or even begging. When there is no common ground and no pressure for anyone to move, why even talk? Negotiations usually require a deadline to get them moving. I'm not sure what that would be in this case. The franchise tag date? Offseason workouts? Training camp?

This has gotta be on Daks side. The only party who benefits from prolonging the negotiations is Dak’s team. Dallas has no real advantage to waiting on this, as much as we wanna blame the Joneses it’s pretty obvious that Todd France and co are holding out for every penny possible.

Those who claim "Dak demanding..." or "Jones playing hardball..." very clearly don't have a clue about what they are saying.

This news does line up with what JJT and Archer talked about:

"3. The FO hasn't reportedly spoken to Dak's camp in over four months, which is unusual since the Joneses are supposedly "bullish" on getting this deal done. JJT mentioned that he spoke with Todd Archer about what went down when the deal was "close", and the consensus is that Dak's team upped his price after the 3-0 start. Instead of working quickly to resolve, the Joneses decided to get mad and pout instead, which really aggravated this already aggravating impasse. Dak WILL get paid though. "

Michael Gehlken joined the Cowboys beat for the Dallas Morning News in August 2019. Just another columnist who is digging for a story.

"No talks yet this offseason". What a genius.

The longer they wait, the more Jerry will pay. The more Jerry pays, the more the haters will implode! Can't wait!!!! Lol!! I don't want Dak to set the market, but I think it will be worth it just to see some of theses guys go off!!!!!

Looks like just the opposite to me.

The Cowboys would have to talk to someone from Dak's side to get that deal that "pays more", and this says just the opposite. They haven't talked in months.

On the other hand, a team doesn't have to talk to anybody to slap a franchise tag on a player.

Why is anyone surprised? The CBA status is in flux. Nothing is getting done until there is clarity on the terms of the next CBA. It benefits both sides, though more-so the player.

It didn't stop the Wentz and Goff deal from getting done. And those guys had years left on their deals.

Franchise tag will cost them more in the long run.
