As you know NFL always adjust, and that will be the case for this offense if they don’t add another deep threat to the unit.

I believe this draft is the perfect place to pickup a speedy WR that can play the slot and go out the deep to take the safeties away from Amari and & Zeke ( similar role Ted Ginn played for Panthers and Saints)

Either you get a top tier drop down to 17 or picking up one up in the mid rounds the personnel is going to be there to get scooped up!

It will also make your franchise QB very happy and not mid OTAs or training camp.

Having pure speed at receiver is good.

Having speed at TE is awesome, we have that now, it changes the whole dynamic of the defense.

Pure speed is great, but I'll take quickness and cutting ability in the slot every time.

I am up way too early this morning.

Can't sleep.

So let's see what's up with this.

I am pretty concerned about losing Cobb and Witten.

Some say it was time to move on from Witten and get an upgrade.

Some say Cobb was merely a replaceable cog in the offensive machine.

Not so fast.

Firstly, we are talking about Dak as the QB here. He is not Mahomes. Accuracy is not his passport.

Secondly,, our team is now going to have to re-,establish its offensive identity with Beard gone and all the coaching changes.

This team MUST bring in a WR to be added to our mix to help the starters. I clearly sense a falloff coming at receiver.

Some say we have guys already on the roster who should play. That drafting is a waste of time and resources.

Nope...like you say..find one and get him on the field.

In addition to your wants with speed being primary..

I want a guy who is quick. I want one who is not afraid to return punts and KOs, too.

We are needing that every time we touch the ball, there be urgency.

This is a mindset and a 'want to'. It's an intangible not a definable skill set.

So put that in your pipe and let me know.

Seen a lot of these 4.2.. low 4.3 WRs get over hyped and get over drafted... see John Ross.

Like others say give me someone who can quickly get in and out of cuts and understands his places in an offense to make a play

You can also find the likes of Cooper Kupps, Godwin, Curtis Samuel if your scouting department is any good.

Dak is an Accurate QB , you don’t throw for 5,000 yards and 30 TDs without accuracy.

Mahomes 11th at 65.9%, Dak 13th at 65.1% for 2019
Mahomes 3 years at 65.9%, Dak 4 years at 65.8%

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2019/passing.htm#passing::pass_cmp_perc

Just thought I would point that out about the accuracy part. (waiting for the ...but Mahomes won a SB crowd to chime in...) (yes, he did but he had a better coach also :muttley:)
:D

And we do have some speed on the roster, so the thing is, we can get the same type of player, and not know what you have on day 3. So do they use a high draft pick on a WR that has speed which would have to be a slot guy. That to me fellas in the luxury category when they need defense more. Unless he truly is the BPA at the time far above any other player.

Johnson has that speed, and they know what they have, however I am not sure he is a slot guy, and had a lot of drops.
Smith, can be that guy if this new and better staff can see that.
Draft choice, as I said only if a sure fire guy is there that stands out over any other players. If close, I would stay with defense IMO.

But we do need that guy that can return punts and kicks, though Pollard was returning kicks. A speedy CB can return punts though too.

Dak is not accurate when you compare his lowlights to Mahommes highlights. If you watch Mahommes play, he misses wide open receivers too. Sometimes even very badly.

But why can’t we just discuss a receiver with speed without dragging Dak into it? Should we just cut all receivers and just claim we don’t need them because Dak sucks? Will that make for better conversations?

Dak also had receiving Corp that had one of the most drops some that were for TDs that could have won some games.

I want someone like Irving, AB or Steve Smith that is a dawg when it matters the most.

Add in hands that make all catches thrown his direction.

Most of the small, speed types bust in the NFL. Ted Ginn, was one of them, lol. A former top 10 pick who has never had a 1,000 yr season. Hell, we rostered one last year in Tavon Austin. If some older posters remember, Jimmy taking Alexander Wright at the top of the 2nd rd. Point is, on this level, receivers cannot just rely on their athletic abilities, they need more then just speed.

What the team needs is the exact opposite, a big framed receiver. Not one that relies on his athletic abilities, like a Dez Bryant, but one who has the total package; strong hands, large catch radius (helps with an inaccurate QB, like Dak), strong route runner, able to beat man coverage, etc.

As a run first team having a speedster on the outside would open up running lanes for Zeke. But this speedster also needs to be able to run routes and catch. We had two high flyers last year in camp but neither of them could catch.

doesnt Jenkins run that? its not just about sped its about routes and setting up the defenders and having a QB that can hit them..

BTW nearly had 3 1k WRs last years, we need speed why? speeds nice but having players who catch and run crisp routes are better,...just beat your man and catch it..nice to find both but that hard

BTW second half of the Philly game our WRs were toasting the dbs and deep routes were wide open, QB couldn't hit them.. hmm

If Lamb or any of the 2 tides receivers are there at 17 make the call quickly.
Seems to me anything is play for the draft. We picked up two vet dt and safety. Maybe they draft wideout then cb or safety then dt. Or hell you can wait until round 2-3 for a great receiver as well. We have options now
