Should Cowboys trade for Jamal Adams?

One is an inch short, 14 pounds heavier but still faster...yeah not seeing how that helps your stance.
Take those cheap shades off and you might see things a little better. McKinney ran a slow 40 on his only attempt because he was cramping. He'll definitely run much faster than Adams' 4.56 40 combine time during Alabama's Pro Day. Plus, McKinney will easily gain 12-15 pounds of muscle once he's in the pros. Guaranteed.

Other than that, did you see their highlight reels for 2019? Pretty much identical. The same type of player. Seeing McKinney play is like watching Asams' clone.

Care to dispute that?

Really? Let's see...

Jamal Adams (Strong Safety): 6'0", 214 lbs, 4.56 40 time.

Xavier McKinney (Strong Safety): 6'1", 200 lbs, 4.63 (cramping on only attempt) 40 time...waiting for Pro Day.

What were you saying? They look very similar to me.

15 lbs is huge particularly give McKinney is taller. I am also not overly impressed by a "biggest hitter" highlight reel where his only decleater was when he had a teammate wrapping his leg. Other than that it was a bunch of form tackles.

And then of course Adams can cover WR 1 on 1 because of his athletic ability. McKinney cannot hope to do the same.

I'll be a little surprised if Dallas drafts a safety with our first pick.

I believe we'll more likely go CB, DE or WR with our 1st choice.

No real argument to make from you I see.

So I repeat.

15 more lbs is not remotely the same.
McKinney's highlights are a bunch of form tackles.
McKinney does not have the skill or talent to cover WR 1 on 1 like Adams.

What are you talking about? Your mind can't understand that McKinney will easily gain 12-15 lbs of muscle within his first year? Do you actually believe Jamal Adams weighed 215 when he was in college? FYI, Adams weighed 200 lbs at the NFL Combine back in 2017. That was 3 seasons ago. He now weighs 214. Just like Adams was made to gain 14 lbs, McKinney will be too. Plus, to state that McKinney can't cover is a flat out bull. Do I need to show more video to prove you wrong, or can I do as you and just make up lies?

No, I wouldn’t even offer #17. I like Adams but he’s a safety. I’d much rather have C.J. Henderson or Javon Kinlaw. If both of them are off the board then I might consider it.

How overblown is hendersons aversion to tackling?

Fish claims Cowboys offered 17 & Anthony Brown last year. Doesn't think anything happens until after the draft though. Another future 1.

This is pretty much not true. Last year the Cowboys didn't have 17th pick they had the 27th and had already traded that for Cooper before even talking to the jets about Adams. Last year they talked to the jets about Adams just before the trade deadline.

I don't care that you don't care. This thread is about the safety position. A good CB could be had in the 2nd round since there are several good CBs. Safeties are much more limited in this draft, especially playmakers.

We don't have the cap space to throw around for guys with just two years on their rookie contract (including 5th-year option). A future 2nd at most.

I don’t think it’s an issue. I saw him come off the edge and absolutely blast a quarterback last year causing a sack fumble as well.

What I like about Henderson is that he’s fast enough to stay with any receiver, he reads the quarterback’s eyes, if he intercepts the ball he’s a threat to score with it, and he’s physical and will fight for those 50/50 balls and get his hand in there to knock a ball away.

If it comes down to Henderson and Kinlaw that’s going to be a tough choice.

The thread was about Jamal Adams and it’s perfectly legit to say that taking a safety there (or trading for one) over a cornerback is nuts.

Would you take Adams over Kinlaw? Over Henderson? I wouldn’t. I’m would take him over McKinney, obviously, and Delpit and every other safety in this draft.

But this is such a deep draft class this year and dare I say, the strong safety position (in my opinion, of course) is the least valuable position on the defense and maybe on the starting 22.

I just think that giving up a first round pick for a safety, or using a first round pick on a safety, isn’t very smart. And I think Jerry agrees with me, since he hasn’t drafted a safety in the first round since Roy Williams in 2002, and Roy was special.

Kinlaw will be long gone. Henderson sucks since he's afraid to tackle. Damon Arnette is a much better CB than Henderson.

Jerry avoiding the SS position has haunted us since Roy Williams.

No. They can take 17 or stuff it.

He is one of my favorite players and I would love to have him wearing the Star, but I agree, you can't be trading away assets as if you are getting a QB. I'd go a 1 this year and maybe a 3 next year as my best offer. Also, as much as I like him, I have a hard time picturing them signing another huge contract, at some point you need cheap draft pick labor.
