Jeffrey Dahmer.

Not taking up for any of these guys but there are way more worse people in this world. Go to YouTube and look up Rape is consensual in India. Domestic violence is horrible but there are some real monsters in this world.

As far as giving guys a second chance, I agree with it somewhat because our judicial system has parole. But child molesters, rapist, and murders should never be allowed to go free IMO. So Aldon Smith is a bad guy but he's not a complete monster like some of these other people.

Rape is consensual in India....is the title of the video.
Whoa boy

What's he done in the last 24 hours? That's all that matters, let him play. I heard next were paying for aaron hernandez to get out of jail so he can start at TE.

Glad to see the Cowboys still have my mentality for making decisions on players. Do all the coke and hookers you want during the week... just stay out of jail and you are good to go. If you can sack the qb consistently, you will have a spot on my FOOTBALL team.

If you could guarantee that OJ could rush for 2k yards next year, Id sign him right now. If you aint in jail, you are good to go is my philosophy. When they start giving out 1st downs and TDs for being a good quality person, let me know. Until them..... I likem nasty.

First of all, I’m all for everyone in society getting second chances. People suffering from drug and alcohol addictions who make serious attempts to get sober deserve our support. But people with domestic violence problems are different, especially when it comes to putting them on a national stage like the NFL. Domestic Violence perpetrators need help, but they don’t need a roster spot.

Yahoo Sports ran an article last night on Aldon Smith’s incredibly long rap sheet. Below is an excerpt from that article:

Aldon Smith’s mountain of legal issues

Here’s a rundown of the long list of off-field issues Smith has encountered since entering the NFL:
This list makes Greg Hardy look like a choir boy.
As I said in the beginning of this post- second chances are good. But for domestic violence? I want the Cowboys to win as bad as anyone. But not without at least some level of respectability.

Here’s the link to the article I quoted:
https://sports.yahoo.com/aldon-smith-cowboys-sign-domestic-violence-arrests-nfl-012158571.html

So if you believe " everybody" in society getting in 2nd chances but you don't believe domestic abuse offenders should have 2nd chances ...are they a part of everybody as well?

What i would interested in knowing is what was so special and successful about his recent actual rehab (since just June 2019) has been so different than vs his several other past rehab programs ?

i'm pesstimistic with a guy with that kind of extensive and disruptive rap sheet, whose had so-called rehabs, but maybe i need to find out the support group he is depending upon, and who are the connections to the Cowboys that apparently have convinced the Cowboys organization to at least give it a try.

But if he screws up, ...he's gone, no wasted drafts picks, basically minimum vet wage, no signing bonus, no guarantees.

What was so special about this recent program vs the other ones ?

Don't like the domestic violence issues either. I'm sure the commish will vett him very closely before he's reinstated.

On March 3, Smith was accused of a domestic violence incident in which he threw his fiancée “around the room, bit her on the wrist and climbed out the window,” according to a police dispatch call via KTVU in San Francisco. The Raiders released him shortly after. Smith turned himself into police on charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism (less than $400).

False imprisonment? Assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury. And all this happened two years ago. It’s just mind boggling to me if the NFL reinstates this guy with this kind of domestic violence history.
when he starts having dinner with my family, then Ill worry about his off the field issues. Until then, I really dont care what his past is. If hes free to work at 7 eleven, hes free to play football in the nfl.

When this guy got arrested repeatedly in SF and OAK the fans here all pointed to him and said see that guy is a monster we don't have bad guys and at least gregory is not as bad as him. Which he in no way is comparable.

now I guess its a little different.

Everyone may not agree with me but when someone does something while under the influence of drugs or alcohol I tend to look at it differently than if they did these things while completely sober.

I've done the walk of shame a few times in my life that if sober I would not have done.

Point being the addiction can cause behaviors that the person would not repeat without the mental impairment created by the substances.

I've seen the nicest most caring people turn into monsters while intoxicated.

Yes it's crazy but it's all about visibility. Ray Rice was the main guy to begin the conversation and realization that domestic abuse shouldn't be accepted because he had a video blasted across the internet making the NFL look ridiculous for letting him play and giving him such a minimal suspension. However, if you look at one SB winning star WR who has almost no videos or confirmations of wrong doing, he get's a pass and continues to get his accolades regardless to this day.

I could see A Smith getting reinstated easily with this in mind and just hope that he has changed his ways, although a DUI as recent as a year ago has me skeptical and obviously the Cowboys feel the same with his contract not being guaranteed.

Whether or not he should be reinstated isn't the point.

The point is that he's no worse than Greg Hardy.

Let’s also be fair. I don’t think Hardy has ever apologized for any of his behavior.

I would be curious to hear from Aldon and where he is mentally now. If he is contrite and apologetic for his past behavior. That is an important factor. Because that would be a big difference from Hardy too.

My response to your question about second chances: DomesticViolence perpetrators need help, but they don’t need an NFL roster spot. Some past crimes eliminate someone’s future options. For example- a teacher convicted of a serious crime never gets another chance to work with kids again. They can get other jobs of course, but not in education.

I just have a problem with domestic violence being overlooked. You should lose your NFL roster spot if you are a DV abuser. IMO.
