No it literally isn’t about that. It’s about whether or not we are ok signing players with Domestic Violence on their resume or not. It’s not about Choir boys, it’s not about everyone has to be “good”. It’s about whether or not there are any standards at all for who we sign.

without saying anything about Greg Hardy or Aldon Smith.....this argument touches on the core issue in our society.

We have lost degree, nuance and normalcy.

There is a WIDE AND VAST chasm between choir boy and repeat offender domestic violence types.

98% if the NFL falls in that chasm. You can only name a dozen or so “really bad guys” and only a few that seem to spend their off time in children’s hospitals, giving to charity and giving back consistently to their community with no ‘marks’ on their character.

We are doing the same thing in politics. I deal with people (I’m a personal trainer) who do it with food and exercise. It’s all / nothing On/off right/ wrong best friend / worst enemy.

and it’s just not reality, but we are like moths to the light.

I’m not saying we need choirboys- never said it- never will. I am saying I don’t like guys on the roster with Domestic Violence recently on their rap sheet.
Come on Man :) and read the title of your post. We at least need players that will go to church on Sunday, sit on the back pew with dark sunglasses on, and get over the hangover.

But joking over. You stop the development of your roster and just begin chasing your mistakes on your roster. See all the one existing injury, and substance abuse players that have allowed players like Anthony Hitchens, Damien Wilson, Chavarious Ward, Taco Charlton, Ben Mayowa, Joe Jackson, Jelk, Maliek Collins, etc. not get the time to develop or play as we chase the likes of Hardy, Gregory, Irving, etc.

Stop it and draft the best available player of need, sign young best available players of need free agents, and play them. It works...ask Jimmy Johnson.

First of all, I’m all for everyone in society getting second chances. People suffering from drug and alcohol addictions who make serious attempts to get sober deserve our support. But people with domestic violence problems are different, especially when it comes to putting them on a national stage like the NFL. Domestic Violence perpetrators need help, but they don’t need a roster spot.

Yahoo Sports ran an article last night on Aldon Smith’s incredibly long rap sheet. Below is an excerpt from that article:

Aldon Smith’s mountain of legal issues

Here’s a rundown of the long list of off-field issues Smith has encountered since entering the NFL:
This list makes Greg Hardy look like a choir boy.
As I said in the beginning of this post- second chances are good. But for domestic violence? I want the Cowboys to win as bad as anyone. But not without at least some level of respectability.
Here’s the link to the article I quoted:

You make a compelling argument against his signing. I think it takes bit longer for most people to turn over a new leaf. If he can stay away from alcohol he might have a chance; lots of baggage and demons, though.
I wonder what MM has to say.

Take away the alcohol and here's what you're left with on that list:
And alcohol was involved in most of these other things too. Your list incorporates the same incident as two separate entities, and you do that multiple times. Makes it look worse than it is. He definitely made weird choices and bad decisions, but a lot of these were only charges and not convictions. Also, according to TMZ he plead no contest to the false imprisonment charge, which is of course NOT a guilty plea.

I do not want him as a Cowboy! one more screw up by Aldon and Zeke is suspended for the year.

I believe Zeke will be on his best behavior. Why? Because he is one screwup away from getting suspended for a long time. And that suspension would be a loss of pay and probably also any future guaranteed money. And there is this guy named Pollard on the roster who is pretty good. Zeke's world would come crumbling down if he gets suspended and Pollard succeeds.

I haven't read all the post to this thread so I apologize if this has already been written, but maybe Mike is a better player manager than JG? Looking back on JG's record, it is difficult to find any success working with these types of situations.

Or you could just read more than the title.
This is literally in the thread: This list makes Greg Hardy look like a choir boy.

Whatever. I agree with your general point. Greg Hardy is just a bad example lol

Dude is probably in quarantine like the rest of the NFL so it will be hard for him not to stay clean. I don't like the guy and he hasn't played in years. I have the same expectations for him as I do for Gregory.
Gregory is younger and I believe more in shape and more devoted to succeed. Smith jumped at a lifeline. Probably surprised he got an offer.

@Bobhaze Thanks for the info. You saved me $50. I was worried and was going to run one of those background checks on Aldon Smith because you just can't be sure of anyone these days. Maybe you ought to forward that information to the Cowboys so they are aware. :)

They are reporting he's 275 with 6% body fat. I don't dispute Gregory is in great shape, but unlikely he's in more shape.

All that stuff is caused by pretty much one thing. Alcohol.

it’s been 4 years. I don’t have a problem with one more chance.

All I can say is that Aldon Smith signed with the wrong team if he really wants to get re-instated!

Goodell will put the stop to that real quick!

Greg Hardy beat the stuff out of that girl, was arrested for felony drug possession (cocaine), and had an arsenal of illegal weapons. Smith struggled to stay sober.

Hardy is legit a bad person. Smith struggled with alcoholism. So, no, he doesn't make Hardy look like anything.

lol.. the man made a bomb threat in an airport...lol beat his fiance, Smith is a legit bad person

I’m scratching my head wondering where I said that. Unless you’re just assuming that’s what I meant. I tried to make it clear my problem with all this is the domestic violence he has on his record. If you want to quote me on that and say I’m against signing guys with DV, then fine. That’s accurate. Saying I’m (to quote you exactly) “all for second chances unless the person makes a lot of money then they shouldn’t have second chances”, is inaccurate.

You’re free to disagree with my opinions. Just make sure you’re accurately quoting my opinions.
I know I’m free to disagree with your opinions and did accurately post about them. It’s pretty simple you either believe in second chances or not not all this I believe in second chances but not on the roster business. There is only one reason you wouldn’t want them on the roster if you believe in second chances.
