It looks like Arizona dumps salary but trading away Johnson. I would say that part of the deal was +1 for Arizona.

Essentially they gave up a second for Hopkins once the smoke clears. We could have netted a third round comp pick for letting Amari walk.

I think Hopkins was worth a second round pick if his contract numbers are $18-20m per year are accurate if you let Amari walk.

Im not saying we should have been involved in that trade, but would we have been better off with giving up a 2nd for Hopkins, and letting Amari walk and getting a 3rd round comp pick in return for roughly the same money?

Maybe?

I would take Hopkins over Amari, but also thinking that our second round pick should probably also be a defensive starter which we really need.

I am fine with the way that it played out. Houston are simply idiots.

It's skewed because they also dumped Johnson's contract and the fact that the Texans made one of the worst trades ever.

Yeah and I think Houston thinks twice if it were somehow the Dallas Cowboys trying to deal David Johnson

Can’t get fleeced like that by your rival

And taking Johnson that was more essential for Arizona than anything so no thanks

So in totality, we waste a 1st & 2nd round pick + a high contract on the receiver position and net a third round pick?

We may have put a call in. Wouldnt shock me, especially considering the fact that Cooper wasnt a lock to return.

If we did, the sticking point could have had more to do with Hopkins potential asking price in an extension than draft comp. From what Ive read he wants a new deal. If he gets it, it will reset the market. He will go higher than Jones and Thomas

I think Hopkins is a great WR any team would love to have a player like him. I also think Cowboys got a great WR in Cooper.

Zeke is untradable right now. Would be an ungodly amount of dead money. Not even worth talking about really
If it still meant getting that steal of a deal done, then yes I'm doing it.

After Hopkins cap, and $20M for Zeke we would be near the limit so this would be the team for this year. Next year the sky would be the limit.

That one isn't close actually. Hopkins is as good as it gets.

Arizona giving up Johnson not being a big deal to them may be true, but on the other side, for Houston, he's a player. Would they have taken just a 2nd? I don't think so.

If the question was would Hopkins + a 3rd round compensatory pick be worth a 2nd round pick and no Cooper? Then absolutely, 100 times yes. But, I don't think that is a realistic option.

I love nuk. I love coop. I love nuk more than coop. But coop wants to be in Dallas, has rapport with Dak, AND we don’t have to give up picks to keep him, I’m good with keeping Amari even presented the opportunity to acquire Nuk
