Finally!
Someone answers me with intelligence and not emotion!

Thank you.
Let me consider your work.

Thank you again.

So what is the monetary difference in cutting old boy this year, as opposed to letting him play his contract out money-wise?

His $8 million salary for 2019.

As I have said from the start.

Not sure what you mean by monetary difference? Cash wise, you'd save $8MM this year. Cap wise, you'd save $8MM this year, that could be rolled over to 2021 and create more space in 2021 than you'd have if you just let him play out his contract.

So there is clearly a cap benefit in the future to cutting him now. The team has to weight that benefit against the fact they believe he's a really good player and valuable to the team in 2020. My gut says they think he's that valuable that rollover space (or using it on another FA), isn't as important.

Why won't anybody give some numbers?
@stasheroo ?
Give me some numbers bro.

He gets cut this year, we save X amount of dollars and the rollover is what?
He plays out his contract, his now done contract opens up what?
The difference in the cap, if they sign no one to replace him, is what?

I'm obviously lost and I need to see some numbers and you guys are averse to providing any.

It's hard to give you exact numbers. But the reality is if the Cowboys cut Crawford today and don't use his cap space to sign anyone else, their cap space next year will be higher (likely by $8MM) than if they just let him play out the year and let his contract expire.

The problem with giving an exact number is it's tough because there are adjustments that go into calculating a team's cap each year. But the reality is a cut now results in more cap space for Dallas in 2021 than if they just let him play this year and let him walk in FA next year.

This is a rough guess but letting him play out his contract and then walk in FA next year results in $8MM in cap space being available. Cutting him now and rolling over his entire cap savings to 2021 would result in roughly $16MM in cap space related to him being available.

Unless someone is able to tell me that cutting him creates more cap space than letting him pay his ish out...

I am not comvinced.

Rough numbers then.
Cutting him now creates about how much more cap space than playing the contract out?

And I am not talking about this year.
That's why I prefaced my stuff with unless the team is going to spend his money.

They're all available at spotrac.com

Look at 2020's and 2021's cap numbers. Maybe that will help you.

I edited the post above. Total rough numbers is you let him play out 2020 and roll over off the roster in 2021, you created $8MM in cap space. IF you cut him now and roll over his $8MM in saved cap space, you've essentially created $16MM in cap space in 2021.

Lol... you can't give answers, but you can argue them.
Awesome.

@Sydla
So you are saying that cutting him now doubles cap space next year?
From 8 in saving to 16 next year?
That is simply amazing and doesn't pass the smell test

So the cap can be amazingly manipulated by all teams to an extreme, given certain contracts coming to an end and how they're structured?

We can save double his cap hit from his final contract year.

No wonder the Eagles always have cap space...

Geez.....how many times are we going to talk about Crawford? I’ll bet there are at least 6 threads this offseason demanding he take a cut or be released.

The Cowboys haven’t even asked him to take a cut and don’t sound like they will. So why do the fans have such a problem. Stop listening to fans who don’t have any facts to support their line. Crawford is a productive and valuable part of our defense. He can play DT and is a pretty good pass rusher from inside. He solidifies our RDE position against the run. When the Cowboys feel they actually need a couple million, they will ask for it.

When the Cowboys see enough D linemen who are all better than Crawford, they will release him.
Until that happens, stop harping on Crawford’s salary and stop misrepresenting his play.

Actually I am slightly wrong.

His cap hit this year is $9MM. Cutting him only saves $8MM. So next year, if you just let him play out the 2020 season, his roll off would increase cap space by $9MM. If you cut him today, you'd create roughly $16MM in cap space in 2021. So not quite double, but still a significant cap increase for next year.

Not sure it's a manipulation of the cap. If you rollover a ton of space into the next season, you probably weren't all that competitive in the previous season.

So that's the trade off.

It's shocking that you have no grasp whatsoever of the cap.

Yes, by all means "stop listening to fans who don't have any facts to support their line". Like the baseless stalent above. And the crap about "productive" and "valuable" with zero support. None.

When the Cowboys see enough D linemen who are all better than Crawford, they will release him.

You first.
