They totally intended to go into the season with Cooper Rush as the backup QB until Coach McCarthy came on board. I see people trying to credit Stephen for this move but that's just wrong. This move started with Big Mike making a call to Stephen. Okay, give Stephen some of the credit but it wasn't his original idea, it was McCarthy's idea to fix his QB room.

As for Helman's 2 cents, there is something he said that was just wrong. Taysom Hill is not a QB, he's just a gadget guy. He's not even a backup QB. When Brees went down last season, did Hill get the starting job? No, it went to Teddy Bridgewater. This year if Brees goes down, is Hill getting the starting QB job? No, Jamies Winston will get that nod.
If it had to with personnel, Stephen did it.

Competition is needed at any position to push players to push themselves. When there is nobody to replace you, complacency sets in.
Dak thought he had the franchise by the berries with his demands. Something tells me he and his agent are going to come to terms pretty quick.

The Cowboys MO for years has been to skimp on the backup QB position. Suddenly the starter is asking to be overpaid and may hold out, and the Cowboys sign a veteran former starter. You have to be in unbelievable levels of denial to not acknowledge the connection.

Maybe the new coach and coaching staff has a different MO. Ever think of that while accusing others of denial? Projection is also a defense mechanism.

It appears that the very obvious truth hurts your feelings. My advice would be to relax. The organization now has reason to have an actual backup plan at the QB position. To not be able to admit that is once again incredible levels of denial.

People are bored.

I have yet to hear any reasonable person suggest the Dalton signing has anything to do with Dak.

Dalton costs $900,000 more than Rush. He's a big improvement over Rush. It's that simple
The backup QB may well play right out of the gate. If you can’t see the connection I honestly don’t know what to say.

And the salary cap is 30 Million more than it was when Rush made the roster in 2017.

Was he told by the guy who said dez would be a cowboy in 2018? Stephen fired him anyway. Chain of command. Get with the program, soldier.
No, he was told by the guy his daddy hired to coach the team and his daddy told him to do what that man says. But he did it, so we agree. :)

Preposterous. Mac is another Stephen listens to, just like will mcclay. Certainly he had input. But Stephen runs the ship now.

I think that there is huge piece of the puzzle that everyone is ignoring when it comes to this signing. Yes, it was a cheap move for arguably the best backup QB in football, 3 mil for Dalton vs 2.5 mil for Rush, but that is only half of it.

This upcoming season is going to present some obstacles that we have never seen before. Imagine this Dak, who is well known for not abiding by social distancing rules, contracts COVID 19? He could be out for a month or more after recovering and being quarantined. Having a solid backup at QB is much more important this year and probably for the near future. Eagles did this by drafting Hurts. Personally, I prefer a proven starter at backup than wasting a second round pick on a QB that may not live up to his draft status.

This was great move by the front office. Dalton is a great insurance policy to have. It's nice to know that the drop off will not be as significant should Dak not show up or go down to illness or injury. Say what you will about Dalton, but if you switched Dak and Dalton's teams last year I'd bet that Dak wouldn't look much better.
Lots of upside to getting a proven vet for QB2, even for the short haul.
Nice Gibson guitar in your avatar. Les Paul?

Stephen is doing a fine job of running that ship these days. I'm so glad he has that voice of Big Mike in his ear, helping him out. Notice how FA has gotten much more aggressive this offseason? That's not like Stephen. It's almost as if he is a possessed man this year. He's possessed by that voice of Big Mike in his ear.

good point. Lets also ask the 64,000 dollar question. Why hasn't another club signed Dez Bryant yet? He seems to be much better at creating drama on twitter than he is being a viable NFL PLAYER. Sour grapes on his part maybe to create some buzz around himself? Hmm.. He seems to be craving attention. EASY PASS ON DEZ.

Garrett had Jerry's ear though he probably lost it last season. Jerry wanted so much to be right about Garrett, but the embarrassing loss to the eagles 2nd and 3rd teamers sealed his fate. It's stephen's show now. It's about time.

Okay, Scooby and gang, lol. The front office had zero plans of upgrading the back-up position at all even though it came into focus when Dak actually got hurt and was ineffective vs. the Eagles that cost us a playoff spot last year. Nor was it because McCarthy and staff might have seen that and wanted it addressed since it's been a weakness for years. But nope, they wanted a back-up QB so they could posture against their starting QB's contract negotiations. And did it with a guy who was 2-11 as a starter last year. So which here is most likely "obvious truth?" You think Dez caught in Green Bay too, don't you? Drama, drama, drama, lol.
