Do you believe the Cowboys and Dalton talked about this?

Of course the Cowboys are hoping that Dak will sign in a deal that works for both parties. However, if they somehow just can't get a deal done and Dak walks, then Andy is the next man up. It's not what the team wants, but it's possible. If that did happen, it would make more sense to have Dalton on a longer contract, most likely 2 years.

Do you believe that Jerry/Stephen and Dalton talked about that possibility and said, "If that happens, let's talk about a longer deal." Would they do that or would they shy away from that as false hope for him being the starter?

Just me but no I don't talks got that far at all. I think he was only promised a job as Dak's back-up. We have to remember, in their eyes, this is Dak's team and unlike many fans, they have NO DOUBTS about his ability to lead this team where they wanna go. Their excitement for having Dalton is night and day different from fans.

I think Dalton wants to start period. So 1 year gives him flexibility to try again in year. If he signed 3 year deal and Dak signs his contract then Dalton would be out of options. It is great deal for both sides and Dallas or course could sign him for 2-3 year after this season in event Dalton starts and does well. He is from Texas and at this age that means something.

Dalton is 32 years old and while QB's are playing longer my thought is that of course Dallas talked to Dalton about possibly starting based on the frustrations of the Dak negotiations. However, I do not see Dalton being more than either a 1-year back up this season or, if he does start due to Dak either failing to come to an agreement or injury and Dalton performs well, then I could see Dallas signing Dalton to a 2-year extension while they find their new young QB.

I don’t think Dalton wanted to sign a 2 year deal. Not for basically 3 million a year. Dak will sign. Dalton wants to stay put in Dallas and get 3 million this year. He will have a demand again after this year is up. If no good offers then he may resign with us. I wanted to sign him as a backup for 2 years. But Dalton don’t.

drop Dak , roll with dalton and dinucci, get clowney and maybe other def player, and see how that goes.

I'm not a huge Dak fan so I'll admit that's an option. And frankly, I wouldn't be too upset if that happened. But to be honest, I'm a bit worried about Dalton in this situation. We'd basically be asking him to do what Kurt Warner did with the Rams. That's a lofty goal.

One year is the best case right now. Insurance as a starter if Dak holds out. If he has a good season, it pressures Dak to sign next season. However if Andy has a good season, they can negotiate a deal with him, trade Dak or get a com pick. Draft a QB to groom under Dalton, depending what they see in Dinucci.

If the lose both QB's, then they can now draft a QB in the 1st round. Get 2 3rd round comp picks. And see what QB's are available in FA and the draft.
If Dak plays on the tag, then we will see if he truly deserves a longer higher contract or not.

It is kind of a win win. See one or both QB's and if they are with signing longer terms or not.
If Dak signs long term, then we best hope he really is the QB. I am 60 / 40 that he is. Prefer he play under the tag even if it cost more later. Then we will know for sure.

Is dallas better off with Dak for 30 mill or with Dalton for 7 and fill other holes with the extra money?

I don't know. The modern nfl uses the mobile QB. I think that gives Dak and advantage over Dalton.

Dak can't walk as we have his rights. He can accept the tag or he can hold out and not get paid.

But if your premise is that he doesn't play this year, then yes, Dalton is probably salivating over that opportunity to man that ship for a season. Dak needs to remember that he got his job by performing in place of the starter. Same can happen to him if Dalton is given the same opportunity.

In my opinion? No. Neither Jones would want any part of that conversation leaked back to Prescott.

Their goal is getting Prescott to sign a multi-year contract. I am sure they conveyed that information to Dalton.

I do see the Joneses telling Dalton they will re-visit the possibility of him staying on with the team next offseason. If Dalton replied that he wants to start somewhere, I see Jerry Jones giving him the wink and saying "Let's give it a year and see where we're at then."

Prescott ran a 4.79 40 at the combine. Dalton ran a 4.82. Maybe Dalton is much slower now at 32? Neither are actually that mobile IMO.

Dak is a beast running the RPO. Dallas never let him play all out!

Most likely scenario.
Dalton, and every player, is bright enough to read between the lines.
Dalton, his agent, and the Jones will cross that bridge if they get there.
