Are the Cowboys still America's Team? I don't think so.
Most of the fans like myself who remember why the Cowboys became the greatest franchise in sports are sick of what we see. Jerry slapped every fan in the face for 13 years and didn't care what we thought while he used the sales from the team to live royally and forced us to endure the incompetence of Jason Garrett.
The Cowboys are more of a punchline nowadays than they are respected. I can only speak for myself, but I am sick of what the franchise has become.
I had hope that with the hiring of McCarthy that the humiliations of the past 13 years would end, but now we are enduring yet another issue in which the Cowboys simply ignore their fans and common sense.
If Jerry pays Dak and Dak doesn't produce, I think many fans like myself will be done.
I think Jerry has wasted all trust that the fans had in him with the insistence of keeping Jason Garrett for 10 years and wasting roster after roster of talent.
By the time Dak's extension is finished, Ezekiel Elliott's prime will be, as well.
And I don't want to hear Stephen using the excuse of "salary cap" limits as a reason for the Cowboys returning to the mediocrity of the Campo era.
Jerry had better get this one right; I don't think the younger fans know the passion with which which us older guys followed the Cowboys.
Jerry could very well be signing the death certificate of the Dallas Cowboys if he ignores the mistakes of the past and jumps right back in to the mess we were in with Garrett.
So Dak's fans should hope he becomes his own franchise.
The fans of the Dallas Cowboys demand much more than the fans of Dak Prescott do from both he and the Cowboys.

I'm honestly getting to the point where I would laugh my *** off if he tries his luck in the open market, doesn't get what he thinks he's worth or does by a horrible team, accepts and flounders behind a mediocre team

Some people just need their egos put in check

What is funny within 2 year Dak Contract will be no more than middle of the road. Jimmy G was at one time the highest paid at 27 mill, that did not last long before other QB were making much more. It is the nature of the beast in the NFL. Cowboys have many of their key players under contract already

Don't want to hear...and have a long list? Don't listen then...or discuss on merit of each item added.

And I think Jerry is ignoring the danger of fans that know the difference deciding to move on.

How many teams have drafted a 1st round QB and they were a bust, or just average, given huge contracts. They were no where near the "empire" Dallas has been.
But yet here they are, still operating. The "empire" will not crumble.

Time for another team I guess.

Nobody will ever be America's Team but the Dallas Cowboys. The game has changed but it has always been about money. The richer the game becomes, the worse it is going to be. Everybody wants a piece of the pie when you are talking about billions of dollars. Dak will get his due. Zeke already has his due.

What do you consider what's happen the past 20 + years?
It's been bad, but the Jason Garrett era was a slap in the face to the Cowboys fans who demanded professional management and coaching from the Cowboys organization.

If you look at the situation based on past history that would be true. But I’m not sure one can bank on the cap going up every year with more uncertainty going on. Nothing lasts forever.

Well, if Jerry's ambition is to be just like any other team, he will be satisfied.
But what made the Cowboys great was that neither Landry nor Johnson ran the organization with a willingness to settle for "average".

I feel confident that it will continue to rise, Mahomes and Watson will each get payouts bigger than Dak. Your right nothing last forever and when Networks choose not to spend the money as they do on the NFL that will change but do not see that in the near future. This notion of Dak only getting top 10 money would put him as one of the lowest paid QB within 2 years.

I believe the final offer is in. There may be some small changes but I think Dak and his agent have seen what the team is willing to do and it's now a matter of taking it or leaving it. He can play for 31 or he can sign a new deal.

The thing about it, I'm actually seriously wondering who or where Dak goes if he doesn't want to play in Dallas. I'm wondering what the market for Dak actually is now. A lot of teams took QBs and next year, there will be another 3 or 4 QBs who can possibly go in the first or on the first day and as many as 7 or 8 in the by the 2nd day. Plus, you have Trevor, who many think might be a better QB prospect then any of the the QBs who came out in 20, a class that is thought to be the best QB class since 1983. Offenses are getting easier to run in the NFL, lots of guys who have been running similar schemes, fundamentally, since HS, the advantages associated with a Rookie 5 year exception on a first round pick and the obvious Cap relief associated? I'm really starting to wonder what the market might be for Dak next year.
