Hey, Lee -- There's no doubt but what it's a bit short of a dream come true being a fan of the Cowboys these days. We were, or at least, I was, spoiled by the teams that Tom Landry & Co. were offering during their renowned years. After that, the times of Jimmy Johnson were yet another big step forward in the process of producing championships and further spoiling the fans so privileged to observe their glorious offerings. Unfortunately, those days have come and gone, never to return -- things do change.
For the last 20 years and more, we have seen this franchise struggling to maintain the level that our predecessors have credibly been able to provide. Enter Jerry and his family to assume the heavy burden of living up to that level. The salary cap was a devastating problem to overcome in terms of equaling this team's former stature. Expectations of equaling that level of success have become little more than wishful thinking in the here and now.
Until you've learned to accept the fact that times have changed and have imposed serious limitations on any team to equal the Cowboys' former level of success, you're doomed to see more disappointment than you're likely willing to accommodate. It requires adaptability to adjust -- lots of it.
This team has acquired a staff that shows the promise needed to lift it to levels that they haven't experienced in several decades. Any real fan will be proud of what that means to our chances of contending for championships that we haven't seen in many years. Be one of us, if you can. If not, you're always free to follow another franchise that pleases you more. It's up to you, my friend. See things for what they are or continue wallowing in discontent. Your choice.
