Alworth and Sellers only played one season together, the 72 season and combined for less than 800 yards. Lance Alworth was completely washed up by 72, he had less than 150 yards receiving that season. Bob Hayes was also in deep decline when they all three played together. He only had 200 yards receiving in 1972. Had all three played together in their primes they would have been the best threesome the Cowboys ever had. When picking the best threesome at WR in Cowboys history, you need to pick three receivers who were playing at their best at the same time.

And even in decline made it to a conference championship game beating the 49ers with a TD catch by Sellers from Roger Staubach in one of the greatest comebacks in Cowboy history . Lets see if this group in their prime can get us to a playoff game before we anoint them .

Sheesh with today's players Id be happy if none of them get caught stealing underwear , smacking their girlfriend or driving drunk and can play all season

Owens, Glenn and Austin. Hill, Pearson and a guy off the street in a Cowboys jersey.
Hill and Pearson and a 3rd....not bad.

Owens (gone after 2008) and Glenn (done after 2006) were both gone by the time Austin started getting playing time (2009)
An old Glenn and kind of old Owen did play together in 2006 and managed 1000 yards each. Not bad!

I haven’t anointed this current group. You must be thinking of someone else.

Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, and Butch Johnson. Before Cooper and Gallup the only 2,000 WR were Drew "clutch" Pearson and Tony "thrill" Hill. Butch Johnson was very good as a 3rd WR.
Glenn and Owens did it in 2006

Best threesome at widereceiver in Dallas history?? In my hand I got Joey Galloway. Terry Glenn and Antonio Bryant. Anybody want to say they have a better 3???

And VinnyT was our QB, leading the league in INTs. What a waste.

It would be interesting to scale the Romo starting numbers from 2006 for TO, Glenn, Witten, and Crayton.
Take the stats from throws from Romo, divide by 10.5, multiply by 16.
Code:
              Yards, TDs, Catch%, YPT
Terrell Owens 1306 15.2 0.59 8.16
Terry Glenn 1050 4.6 0.61 9.70
Jason Witten 898 1.5 0.76 9.35
Patrick Crayton 629 4.6 0.74 11.80

For Witten, Glenn, and Crayton, the YPT were higher than any season of their Cowboy careers.
TO did better in 2007. New kid on the block.

Glenn's knee going out is the generally unrecognized tragedy of the the Team that Parcell's built. Think about adding a *healthy* Glenn to 2007. SB. And no trade for Roy in 2008.

I think that's some of the problem with evaluating the Romo years. 2006 looked so promising. But Glenn's bad knee took out one of the legs that promise was standing on. I had forgotten, but Glenn was a 1000+ WR in 2005 too, YPT 9.5. A legitimate #1 WR himself. Our #1 that year.

Nice. Select all plays for Romo in 2006, and they give a table with everyone Tony threw to.

71 the Cowboys had Hayes, Alworth, and Ditka. All past their prime, but that's a lotta gold jackets.

When Romo took over we had TO, Terry Glenn and Patrick Crayton. That was a solid threesome. Last years threesome would certainly rank up there had we not missed the playoffs. Two 1000 yard receivers and Cobb would have been pushing 1000 yards had it not been for several plays being called back due to penalties.

Miles didn’t play until Owens retired.

That would’ve been something else though.

When Miles Austin was good he was something else.

Just think of how many guys like him that will be forgotten in the NFL but on their good day they were something special.

My vote aswell but it is awfully hard leaving Irvin out of any trio

We've had some great trio's at wr, but this might be our best. I'll never forget how efficient preston pearson was coming out of the backfield on third downs.
