I'll put it like this - I cannot think of a 1 year "character issues" gamble FA we've signed whose issues have not cropped back up. And to my knowledge, coming back to pro football after 5 years off is unprecedented in the sport.

Very low chance this gamble hits, very high chance it backfires. I'm not enthusiastic about this signing at all.

Bet you he will be a stud. This guy is a freak of nature, look out. Guy is fresh with no wear and tear.

Ok, good for him, but will it be good for Dallas? I really hope so, only time will tell.

He doesn't have the normal wear and tear that players his age have. So I'm not concerned about his age. I'm more concerned about how long its been since he played. Nobody takes 5 years off from anything and picks it up right where they left off.

exactly....that is my bigger concern to, the game evolves quickly and it will likely take him at least a year just to get his feet back under him...again, long shot, hope for the best, expect nothing

I will predict that Smith will have a better year than Dlaw. Dlaw was huge disappointment last year.

Here's my theory about Randy and of course I could dead wrong......is it possible the Goodell is asking Randy for clean piss/urine before considering his request? That's not to say he won't fall under the non-suspension guidelines of the new CBA ONCE he's reinstated but I can't imagine Goodell letting him in with a dirty test. Hell wouldn't that mean he would hit the ground with a fine? The difference between he and Smith is Aldon's been sober for 8+ months. We've seen nothing to suggest Randy has ever stopped smoking weed for an extended period. Traces are in the system how long, 60 days?

Bottom line, I'm guessing Goodell is requiring a clean test and Randy can't stop smoking long enough to give him one.
Can he require such a thing though?

Can he require such a thing though?

Remember the league's intention is to rehabilitate rather than suspend. Yes, they lax the rules a bit but that more for the recreational users which explains why they made it harder to get caught. But Randy is an addict, meaning they will do everything possible to help him overcome his addiction. They ARE NOT saying he has a blank check to smoke weed. Think about it, IF that was the case, their weed program would parallel the NBA with no testing at all. Would you let him back in with a dirty test knowing he can't stay for 60 days? BTW this just my take on what I think is happening. I personally have no problem at all with Randy and his weed issues but this new CBA isn't a blank check.
