In my opinion it is. I do know that Stephen’s first offer was a lowball insult. After which the two sides stopped talking for months.

And I’m basing it on how he mishandled the other two deals as well so I have history on my side too.

The news is that Dak's offer was every bit as highball as the Cowboys was lowball. Problem is the Cowboys have moved to try and meet him in the middle and he hasn't budged at all.

Yeah, but... the cap is the cap... which is the problem with a lot of players. They think because Jerry has a $250mil Yacht, he should be able to pay them what they want.

Yep, meanwhile, Jerry & Stephen are happy, feeling warm & fuzzy that they're sitting pretty. I'll bet we're more worried than they are! ;)

"By not swooping in and making Prescott an offer he couldn’t refuse the moment he became eligible for a second contract in early 2019, his leverage grew and grew and grew and now he has more of it than any quarterback in league history."

This is 100% true and I put the blame on Stephen Jones for it. He has now mishandled this team's past 3 big contract extensions.

But one key consideration that Florio has not accounted for is the potential impact of a Deshaun Watson extension. If the Texans follow their recent history, they will overpay Watson and reset the market and Dak's asking price.

His leverage is based on Dallas willing to play his game.

If he wants to lose playing in Dallas they can gain leverage back real quick.

Instead they put the wrong tag on him like idiots.

But they should pull this current tag and let him get his market value.

Actually, Dak’s counter was ‘highball’ because that lowball offer was such an insult.

Thanks Little Enos!

We agree on placing the wrong tag on him.

The Cowboys are focused on getting quarterback Dak Prescott signed to a new deal before the July 15 deadline for finalizing multi-year contracts with franchise-tagged players. And regardless of whatever has been said or speculated or reported or whatever regarding the negotiations, only two things matter at this point. First, neither side is going to [more]

Give me a break, we are not talking Troy Aikman type talent here, top 10-15 QB at best. I highly doubt any team would give Dak more than the Cowboys have already offered, let him hit the open market!

I have been saying exactly this since day 1.
EVERYDAY that passes the price goes up.

DWatson, Lamar Jackson and Pat are ALL going to come in higher than the current AAV high of 35M.
I expect Pat to be ~45M. DW and LJ both 40ish.
Pat will almost certainly have at least one 50M year in his deal.

"making Prescott an offer he couldn’t refuse "

Dak can always refuse, and did so.

If people want to blame the team for not getting Dak signed, they should say how much more they're willing to pay, and how much more they're *not* willing to pay.

"Get her done" is a lot easier to say than "offer Dak 50mil a year but not 60mil a year".

Some of you guys would make awful negotiators. Hurray up and sign the deal! You're not going to get more! Your leverage is decreasing by the day!

Hands off the panic button. …

"[N]either side is going to approach its bottom-line position before the July 15 deadline approaches. That’s a fundamental principle of negotiation; let the deadline drive the process. Any chatter regarding positions at this point doesn’t matter. On or about July 15, the two sides will get down to business."

Start by not insulting them with $25 million a year and then not talking for six months.

Start there.

I'm not nearly as worried as I often seem to be. This team and its FO has been a mystery long enough to me to quit trying to figure it out! :D

Again I remember those few games last year, Jets, Chicago, New Orleans, New England and also Philly on the road where a few more points and we win some of those games and go to the playoffs. Seeing is believing and I saw no leadership from this quarterback.

Or give up a few less points

I’ll be honest
I can’t complain about not signing him before 2019 at what it would have taken
I really wanted to see another year
That’s the cost you pay for wanting to see another year
It’s a gamble and me and jerry lost lol

You got a post last summer saying to offer Dak 35mil? You got a post this week saying to offer Dak 40mil?

Easy to talk about coulda shoulda after the fact.

Easy to point out obvious mistakes as well. This is another negotiation mishandled by Little Enos.

But the Joneses will still claim ‘victory’ when they ultimately set the new high bar at over $35 million a year.
