Stats help you win fantasy sports leagues. I care about post-season wins.

If Dak can lead the team to the championship game or Super Bowl, I am all for paying him $30+ million per year.

Until then, he's simply a quarterback coming off an 8-8 year who has one playoff win in 4 years.

Just so you know, I was one of the first people here to say Dak was a special player when we drafted him and he was going to be third on the depth chart.

I like him as a person and player and I am perfectly fine with him being the Cowboys quarterback, just not at $30+ million per year at least not yet.

If he can get the Cowboys to the championship game or the Super Bowl, then it would be much easier to justify.
Just so you know i wanted us to take dak as early as the 2nd round and told all friends family and co workers that if Romo gets hurt dak will take his spot. Did you complain when romo got his money? Because his extensions were priced with sb mvp qb money when he made his deals. Btw those arent stats those are analytics that tell the actual story using logic and stats not emotions

Thank you for proving my point in my first point by bashing another player, one who has been out of the league 3+ years, simply because someone disagrees with you.

Anyway, to answer your question I was definitely not happy about Romo's $100 million contract for the same reason. I liked Romo early on just like Dak, but he had not yet earned that kind of contract either. I felt he should be paid but that was too much money for what he had (or rather had not) done.

That said, arguing about a past player is irrelevant. This is a team that has paid a lot of players over the years based on potential and hope and dreams and wishful thinking.

No Championship game or Super Bowl in over 20 years makes me care more about results than stats .. and I deal with analytics every day .. they are stats (you can put a dress on them if it makes you feel better).

Dak is coming off an 8-8 season and has 1 playoff win in 4 years. $25 million per year would be more than fair for what he has (or rather has not) accomplished.

I hope Dak plays on the Franchise Tag contract this year. If I were the Cowboys, that's all I would offer. If Dak leads the team to the Championship game or Super Bowl, he will get an even bigger contract offer next year, but at least he will have earned it.

Who did i bash? I was just stating my opinion because my faith in Dak. If you saw him at miss st especially his junior season you can tell the kid has "it". $25 million is untealistic based on what goff and wentz got paid. Compare dak next to them and he stands out in most categories. So he shpuld take 8 mil a year less because he didnt have great coaching and a defense to carry him? There are 53 men on a team to do a job. When dak plays defense and special teams holla at me

I've been a Cowboy fan for 50 years.

Sign Dak or don't sign Dak, it won't change fan hood one bit.

In all honesty, this is exactly how I feel. Not 50 years, but closer to that than I wish I was.

Just to make fun of myself, I once had an argument with my dad and got *very* heated after a loss during the Parcells era and said that Quincy Carter would be a Pro Bowler one day....I'm glad he doesn't have a good memory.

It is the one (hopefully) part of my life where I am un-apologetically and completely irrational, at least when watching a game or discussing with other fans. In recent times I try to be more level, and read smart guys like Sturm. Fun to laugh at the haters on here - it seems more fun to be a homer, since....

Long answer - NO, we don't mean squat.

I have never been a Wentz fan (I have made several posts about that) and Goff only had one solid season when their offense was brand new.

I definitely don't think either of those are worth their contracts and think both of their teams made huge mistakes paying them that much.

I honestly don't care what Dak accepts. He can ask for or demand $50 million per year for all I care. If another team wants to pay him that, more power to him and them.

The only thing I care about is what the Cowboys actually pay their 8-8/1-playoff-win quarterback.

We should be wanting to reward dak. Been nothing but a professional on and off the field and a great team leader. Never threatened to hold out and bet on himself. And my biggest fears realized that he would ball out. I wanted him signed last offseason knowing the price would go up knowimg he was gonna ball out with fredbeard was coming back along with a whole offseason with coop and gallup

The board will blow up when they pay him something like 35/35/35/45 for an AAV of 37.5 - but only the first 3-ish years are g'teed.

If he has earned that 4th year, then THAT 45m in 2024 or whatever will look like a BARGAIN compared to what Watson/Jackson/(Burrow?) is making 50m+ then....

I don't think rewarding him for what he has or hasn't done should be considered. He should be paid based on what the team thinks he can do for them. I just think both sides have to be careful. He needs to get paid but the team has to watch that potential salary cap drop due to COVID-19. I'm sure they'll work something out and we'll have Dak, good coaching for a change, and a very talented roster.

And again the price will go up. Hes one of the best qbs under the age of 30 at 27 years old. The longer they wait the more it will cost us

It is a very difficult and time consuming process to put together a team that comes together with the focus, performance, comraderie, personalities, competitiveness, and commitment to want to work hard and succeed, not just for yourself, but an honest desire to do it for each other.

The most importance thing for coaches and NFL executives to remember is, when you sense your team coming together in that fashion.......
Don't screw with it!

If the same type of salary cap and free agency existed in 1993, we would have lost Emmitt Smith. The Super Bowl tally in the 90's would have halted at 1.

Even one missing ingrediant in a recipe, no matter how small, changes the flavor from what it used to be. Jerry never understood that. There have been so many times in the last 25 years that the Cowboys were so close to building that team and then Jerry decides to go cheap and get some plug and play free agent or low draft pick instead of finding a way to keep a vital cog so the machine continues to run smoothly.

It wasn't the salary cap that hurt the Cowboys, it was a very poor set of priorities and lack of professional expertise in evaluating the potential of the team.

That has always been the difference since the day Jimmy Johnson left.

Yes.

I will not follow him.

I prefer Dalton.

If not him then just for this season and we draft high in 2021.

I have just arrived at my end with all this drama.

He is not leading us..he is dividing us.

He is undermining Big Mike as to who is the real leader of the team.

That to me is and only can be McCarthy.

Dak needs to step back and prove himself.

Whatever equity he thinks he has now has to start over now.

Dak is the wrong guy for this team going forward. I prefer a more experienced guy who is hungry.

Dak is fat over himself.

He needs to get over it.

I think you are confusing things Dak is doing with things the FanZone is saying or the media is insinuating.

I’d be curious if you can find a single thing Dak has said or done that merits any of your criticisms.

If an NFL player not signing a contract quick enough to satisfy your message board obsession then you need to take a step back.

See ya later!

And if they don’t make it to the NFC Championship?

What then?

Re-sign Andy Dalton for 25/100 and hope for the best?

Draft some random QB late in the first round next year? Are you good with a second or third tier rookie QB leading an aging, veteran team? Does that get us to the Super Bowl before our entire roster falls into decrepitude and salary bloat?

Do we blow it up completely? Tank in 2021 and let Zeke, Cooper as soon as their contracts allow? Refuse to re-sign players like LVE who are coming off rookie deals? Trade Zack, La’el and Tyron and anyone else over 30 who might have a little value and rebuild completely?

That’s the problem and those who oppose the idea of Dak as our QB seem to be unwilling or unable to address.

Overpaying Dak is the worst best option. It’s also the best *worse* option. All of the other possibilities amount to completely giving up on the current era and I’m not ready for that. The team is too good, has too much talent, and has a brand new coach with a pedigree.

You can’t just tear it down

And I completely reject the fantasy of finding a magic mahomes sitting on the side of the road waiting for us to pick him up and hope he is a unicorn. Hope is not a strategy.

Hilarious.

I bet you had no problem when Romo demanded top pay, which he received TWICE.

ROMO WENT HOLLYWOOD right after his first year starting in 2006. He would be caught partying in Los Angeles on Tuesdays (off day) during the Regular Season, and he's the only Cowboys QB to go to Cabo DURING THE PLAYOFFS, only to lose leading the team for that playoff game. Then says afterwards that he was not worried about "perception". Said that if his career suddenly ended, he would be happy he accomplished as much as he did. Had very good ability but always came up short when it mattered most. Partied too much and seeked the limelight during his early and healthy years. By the time he settled down and took things much more seriously, his body was already breaking down. Romo had some big performances throughout his career but would come up short when it mattered most many times. Seeked and enjoyed the limelight before accomplishing anything on the field.

You don't see Dak going Hollywood or pulling early career limelight stunts like Romo did, yet Dak has helped lead the team to more wins during his first 4 years than any QB in Cowboys history. That's not including the many team accomplishments he's already achieved during his early 4 year career and is on pace to break most (if not all) of Romo's franchise leading records. All while staying focused, increasing his offseason training while improving his performance on the field every year, leading most QBs in stats every year and trying to stay away from the limelight ...... But Dak is the wrong guy for this team because he wants top QB pay that he's earned? Pfft.

How many of you that work yourself up on either side of the Dak contract discussion really think it makes a difference? I hate Garrett and I was not shy about, even got benched a handful of times because of it. I saw it as fun banter and just used it to mess around. I think most of us here do the same with Dak. Will anyone step up and say that that they will renounce their fan hood if we sign or dont sign Dak? Any hardcore?
Nope,, only difference you make is when you buy a cap or jersey, or over priced beer.

And there you go again. Unable to defend Dak with his own merits and have to revert to attacking Romo. I was against Romo's contracts then am against paying any one player too much, but not knowing the true negotiations, I just feel the possible reduced cap should be taken into consideration.

Everybody has an opinion.

So you saw Cowherds latest piece about Dak?

Fully half of Daks wins were against the Commanders and Jints. How spectacular. The wins against teams over , 500 was like 7 out os 14 or something like that and he was 1-4 or something against playoff caliber teams.

And Dak should be paid like he"s Mahomes..?

What parallel universe are you from anyway?

They obviously do not teach basic math there.

I am not alone in my comments...to be sure. The National Media is turning against Dak and his bank robbery ways.

As far as Romo, he was our only talent back then..then a dried out TO and limping DeMarcus Ware. So sure, Romo got paid, never was a doubt.

I prefer Dalton, cheaper, more humble, still can play with no injuties to speak of and with Big Mike pulling the trigger, he will be more than enough.

We take Daks money and go shopping before September and I bet we are suddenly contenders for SB with our new approach.

Not twiddling our fingers say "Dak, please come back".

Over to your reply.

This should be good.

Oh, just playing with your fanhood here, nothing personal.
