Would You rather pay Dak $40m or spread it around on defense?

There is a metric thrown around that QB's, to keep the team around them competitive, should not make more than 14% of the cap. Thats 28ish per year. I think that should be the offer.

Dak has earned his money I say. Throwing for almost 5k yards, is not easy, especially doing it with one hand tied behind his back from the HC makes it even more worthy.

Just imagine how awesome he'd be if the entire offense wasn't completely STACKED...

Yeah, he'd probably be about as good as we've come to see when he's busy pooping the bed...

I can't wait until we're losing critical pieces all along the team, because one thing's for sure, he's sure as hell not throwing for 5K yards if he was playing with the teams Dalton has been leading...
...

Notice the way a real QB takes over and DOMINATES during the most important games...

In 3-4 years, whatever Dak gets this year will be less than several other NFL QBs who will be getting even bigger deals. Again, the pay scale for NFL QBs is way more than any other positions because it’s the hardest to find.

True, people are looking at today as if the cap will suddenly freeze. As players contracts expire, they will look to get their money and that is what Dak is doing, it is what Watson in Houston will do and it is what Mahomes will do and as others will do after that. Saying he should be paid less than some other QB all I can say is within 2 year his deal will not been seen as extraordinary. I will say the QB market is a very costly one not just for the Cowboys but across the NFL and that is not going to change anytime soon.

IMO, it doesn’t matter what any of us would want to do with that money. Dak will be the starting QB here for years. The saga of many fans getting upset about allegations of what Dak is demanding or how “over-priced” he is, are in my view over blown.

Dak is going to get paid a king’s ransom, not because he is worth every penny, but simply because that’s what the NFL QB market does with starting QBs. NFL teams overpay for starting QBs because finding an above average, durable QB in this league is much more difficult than any other position in football.

Nice to see some reason. I was wondering if I would find any at all here.

Fair enough, but the question remains: would you rather spend that money on the defense, or give it all to a guy who doesn't even acknowledge the benefit of being QB1 for the best sports franchise in the world.

If he would have just demonstrated even the sliver of compromise, he'd not only be setting a positive example for our other players, but he'd also escape the almost unimaginable scorn DFW will heap upon him for his entire life, should he continue coming up short....

Take a nice contract, have a little success, and BOOM, not only would he be a Texas legend forever, but he and his entire family would be much, much more than financially secure for the rest of their lives...

Jeff I understand what you are saying; “spreading the money around” is a common thought for many fans about how to build a winner. But it’s just not how the NFL works. Especially when it comes to paying QBs. That position gets stupid money. And Dak is better than too many here think. Just an opinion.

This is the problem in a nutshell. Either by our own or Dak's agents fault we have waited to extend him, letting the top two qb's of his draft year sign well before hand. Their salaries were looked at as crazy at the time, and as time passes QB salaries are rising and continue to.

Dak was a 4th rd pick, and the other two were top 2 overall. When we look at things this way, by no means should Dak sign for anymore money, and you can argue he should sign for less. We can argue all night who is better, but by default we sign Dak at the same time as the others he falls at their salary levels. Now what, 2 years later? Clearly the Cowboys are not convinced he is their franchise, so the waiting game continues. If I am Dak I sign the tender, play lights out then go all in. He will never have a better chance to have inflated numbers than this Cowboys team...which is why one way or another he plays and starts this year..

I’m in the pay Dak camp too. Assuming its the 35/yr everyone is talking about,

But come on. Few QBs in the NFL have it as good as Dak has had it on the offensive side of the ball. Top 2-3 RB, top 5 line, good WRs. Also..maybe we didnt think Dallas had the best HC..agreed....but he was an offensive coach and they were probably middle of the pack in that regard. Which is why NY hired him as an OC.
And Winston threw for more yards and is now making 1-2 mil a year. So please dont use that as a measuring stick.

He’ll get paid, but pleases stop. Hes been described as a trust fund QB due to all his privileges, and it almost firs.

Yep whipping on teams like the Skins and Giants 4 times a year is a most difficult task.
And when you consider all his wonderful passing stats when we have lost the game and the smell of Garbage is in the air OMG how does Dak do it?
40 million a year is a bargain for such a rare talent!!!
Now in band camp.....:omg:

True but what killed Winston is he is a turnover machine. He had over 5,000 yards and 33 TD he also had 30 ints.

whats he suppose to do? That was the schedule. He doesn't make the schedule. I realize he couldn't beat the good teams..but it wasn't all his fault. We had a terrible staff that refused to adapt. He was handcuffed..played to not lose.

Romo record vs teams 500 or better was not good either.

Dak 47.06-win percentage against teams that finished the season above .500 and an 82.76-win percentage against teams that finished below .500. Romo, on the other hand, posted win percentages of 33.33 (teams finishing above .500) and 66.67 (teams finishing below .500). Big difference is many blamed it on the HC and now it is not the HC it is the QB?

Pay Dak the $40-45M he's so selfishly demanding or spread that cash around on the defense???

Imagine the players we could acquire for that kind of coin!!

dallas-signs-qb-andy-dalton-to-1-year-deal-1000x600.jpg

Please, Jerry!!! Please just let Dak walk for nothing and roll Dalton, then go out and spend that money on an ELITE defense...

Try to justify it anyway you can, but Dak simply does not embody the heart and attitude of a true Dallas Cowboys' QB1 - it's a privilege, and he doesn't have any business in that roll - to bad, he isn't able to look past his covetous desires as necessary to build up the entire TEAM, so he might actually win a SB..

Anyone who actually believes Dak wants a SB has got to have serious issues - he's obviously only concerned with one thing: his money, and grubbing for every single dirty penny he can steal from the team...

Please, Jerry - eliminate the problem NOW. Show all the players that being a Dallas Cowboy means more than worshiping money; instead, guys like Troy knew exactly what it being the DC QB1 is really all about - WINNING...
OMG...where did you read for a FACT that Dak is demanding 40-45....there is nothing you dak detractors wouldn't succumb to, including making up craap to prove your view....

no, I don't want Dalton. he is not the future. he is not capable. he is at the lower 1/3rd of the league and he has accomplished nothing. this guy folds in the big moment..... I am not trying to win a spreadsheet war that you seemingly are fighting...we are trying to win a championship and Dalton can't do it. is not capable of doing it. he is what he is... at this point in his career a very capable back up or bridge to the next guy for a rebuilding team.
