Was listening to the fan (105.3 Dallas area)this afternoon and according to PFF the boys roster ranks 6th in the league
1. Baltimore
2. New Orleans
3. San Fran
4.KC
5. TB

the cowboys had 7 what were called blue chippers and here is the order they ranked them. Sorry don’t have the link or the actual numbers. Maybe someone can find them
1. Zach Martin
2. DLaw
3. Collins
4. Amari
5.Dak
6. Pollard
7. Zeke
The scores reflect how effective they are on the plays they are in so Pollards score could very well go down if he had more plays but as it was he ranked ahead of Zeke but only barely.

interesting! wish I could find the link

Amari wasn't our best WR last year and Pollard wasn't much of a factor beyond a fumble in a critical spot.

PFF is good as a data collector but the grading is always going to be weird it appears.

The number of plays certainly SHOULD be a factor in grading.

gallup didn’t rank far behind I remember them saying that

Of course every team would like to have more Talent even the general consensus number one ranked team. But we were ranked in the upper echelon, we have better coaching hopefully we can gain some continuity doing training camp "fingers crossed" but I like our chances and that's all that any team really wants, a fighting chance to get to the Superbowl. Health permitting we'll make our case for postseason play.

Would be nice if our roster was actually this good. Many thought the same last season, but we now know it wasn't true.
Actually it is if you factor the very poor management of the kicker (cost the Cowboys at least 2 games), the numb nut defensive coaches the Cowboys had, the complete idiot special teams coach (worst in the league??? REALLY???) and of course it starts at the top with The Clapper leading the charge.

When you think about it, it's somewhat amazing the Cowboys managed to find a way of getting 8 wins when the deck was stacked against them so much.

coaching cost the team at least 2 games. Maybe as much as 3-4 last season.

They literally had to send the LB coach home in the middle of the season last year. That is insane.

Our roster is over rated by our fans and the media almost every year, it’s good for business. I know JG is the scape goat and it was time for him to go but there were more than a few games that he put this team in a position to win and the players dropped the ball literally and figuratively. Saints game immediately comes to mind as does the last game against Philthy and the kicker which cost us a couple games which I doubt he had any say in.

No one wants to talk about Amari not showing up in road games, or Dak making some poor throws, or zeke getting shut down in big games, or Dlaws lack of sacks, or the interior D line not doing well, or the kicker missing chip shots, or LVE looking bad before his injury or Jaylon being completely over rated.

You can lead a horse to water...

LOL at Pollard! I like the kid but pffff..........
Not that I think the kids is better than zeke which many know isn’t my favorite.

pollard makes people miss and takes advantage of his opportunities when given a chance ( eagles game fumble aside)

ir would make sense that analytically he’d grade out higher than zeke but he don’t have near the chances and I’d he did his stats would drop like a lead weight

I think our roster is solid and I have high hopes for less predictability on both sides of the ball moving forward

PFF's analytics shows the Cowboys roster was 6th with no NFCE team ahead of them and yet the Cowboys were 8-8 and no playoffs. Coaching matters!!

those are 2020 projections as TB scores are with Brady and Gronk on team. And coaching matters but you’re right players need to execute as well.

you can have the top roster in the league but if your coaching sucks and you’re best players fail you get 8-8

I wonder if PFF knows that Tom Brady will be 43 when the season starts. 43 and no sign of Big Bill. Gronk was great but it’s been a year and he was prone to injury before. I predict TB is going to disappoint a lot of people.

And takes into account Shaq Barrett’s breakout, NFL leading 19.5 sacks
Plus the best WR due
Plus all the high draft picks
Plus the oline upgrades
Etc

The one thing I can never truly quite understand is this same coach won Coach of the Year and 13 games with a 4th rd rookie HOF QB and yet that same coach, with the same QB doesn't quite reach that level of wins as this same QB who supposedly has mproved every year over the next 4 years.
So...

Did the Coach forget how to coach because supposedly the HOF QB improved every year and surely could win a few games 'despite' the Coach of the Year job done by the coach and performance by the QB during his rookie season. I mean right?

Didn't the QB win all those games despite the poor coaching?

OR did the team win all those games?

Or if they lost it was a team loss and if they won it was because of the QB?

What if the QB had poor stats but the team won?

What if the QB had good stats against poor teams and poor stats against good teams?

So when this supposedly legitimate Savior new coach fails with this same QB as previous coach, Is the new old response back to its a "team" loss because it cant be the coaching anymore, I mean right? Or do they just fire and hire another coach like the offensive coordinator maybe.

Just exactly where are the goal posts and today's narrative. It keeps getting harder to keep up.

One thing IS for certain, there Is no way in you know where that it will ever, ever, ever be the QBs fault around here.

A trick he probably learned from the owner.

Too funny. :)

The 2016 season was when we took opponents by storm. They were not prepared.
By adding Zeke, we went back to the 2014 model of grinding teams into submission. Add in the different dynamic that Dak brought and the last place schedule, and just the momentum/mojo the team had (short term) and it was an outlier and prefect storm for us.

Sometimes teams get on a roll. When you add the twist of new blood and a little RPO mixed in, opponents (and especially DCs) were off guard.

But still, come playoff time, if you are grading where the game was played and the opponents 31st ranked pass defense, the home loss to Green Bay was one of our worst playoff losses in 30 years. The only worse team that we lost to in the playoffs at home was Arizona in 1998.
