I have pissed off everybody on this board. But really, if you compare this board to the '90s Dallas Morning News board it is a cupcake. You put any bunch of passionate fans together and you'll have conflict, but we have to learn to state our opinion and move on.

Not me...yet.

I was never on the DMN board but I remember NBC Sports forum was a free-for-all. I did more lurking than posting, guys were making death threats to each other.

Oh some fans of other teams waste their time here. Some people get a enjoyment out of riling up Cowboy fans.

I may have trolled a now-defunct Notre Dame football forum long ago. It was more fun than holding hands with a bunch of guys who agreed with each other 99% of the time. :muttley:

One thing about this place, the only thing some folks agree on is being Cowboys fans. I've never seen a site where people are so polarized over individual players. I like some more than others but I can't imagine the level of hatred some here demonstrate. If you hate a player that much how could it be fun to watch the team?

The deep need by some here to somehow be proven right in an opinion forum is what causes most of the nastiness on these boards IMO. The inability to let someone have a different opinion than their own without feeling threatened or insulted is most often what leads to the insults and name calling. And that’s sad. None of us here are experts. We're fans who love the Cowboys and we all have strong opinions about them.

If we’re all Cowboys fans and we all want them to win, letting a different opinion from a fellow fan on an opinion forum grind your gears is just silly. Insulting people, misquoting or twisting someone’s words, constantly having to “win” an argument, etc should be beneath all of us. Some of my favorite people here have very different opinions than me. That makes me a better fan because they make me think about things I’ve never thought about before.

Not allowing people to freely express their opinions without insults and name calling lowers the quality of this place. And I like these boards a lot. I’ve certainly been guilty at times too. We ALL need to challenge each other to not insult, badger or troll fellow fans. We need to hold ourselves accountable to that standard.

I appreciate everyone here who loves the Cowboys and takes time to express what they think. I sure as hell don’t always agree, but it’s a freaking opinion forum! That’s what it’s for. Let’s save our disdain for the eaglet, wash, and midget fans, lol.

First off good post OP, how the hell did we turn this into a statue debate. My feelings on that issue are going to be shared by some and not by others. This isnt the place for it.
Getting back to topic I think sometimes we have to realise that when posting here we could be talking to anyone from the age of 17 to 90. Just that alone brings a wide array of how we speak to each other. Than you have those who what I call tough guy keyboarders. They are not used to or are afraid of confrontation in real life but using a key board can say what they want much easier. We are all never gonna agree on anything as a huge group, look here we are all fans of the same team and most times cant be respectful to each other. Part of the reason this whole world is falling apart.
Key word here is respect and most people care only of themselves and have no respect for others

Excellent points. It's a good thing it's the mystery of the internet and nobody knows anybody else from text sharing.

If this were an actual gathering of humans discussing these various topics I can only share my opinion as similar to those voiced by Kathy Bates as Adam Sandler's mom on "the WaterBoy" describing her son...

(Paraphrasing) "_________________ don't really have what you call the social skills..."

Insert whichever forum name applies.

There's plenty of 'em. Lol :)

I never understood it either. Like the things I hate in life I don't actually put energy into it. Some don't seem to handle it that way though at all.

I think many members with long tenure/post counts receive favoritism regardless of the numerous warnings on personal attacks not being allowed.

Human nature at the administrative level may influence opinion on leniency with regards to whether they should ban/bench, warn or reprimand a member if that member has firmly established roots per se. Most likely if the behavior has gone on for any length of time and been allowed to continue then the bullying practice has not only become tolerated but accepted as "Oh that's just how (insert said member) is."

But yes, daily personal attacks exist here whether inferred, implied, subtle, overt, blatant or over the top.

And it shouldnt be allowed.
It's important to consider plausible deniability when citing favoritism. Some people are able to insult indirectly, or make allusions which can't be proven to be personal attacks.

That said, yes, some people seem to get a lot of latitude, whether intentional or not.

A spirited repartee is the essence of these forums.
I like a “spirited repartee” too. But at some point, it can devolve into petty bickering. Sometimes the best thing to do is just “agree to disagree”. I’m amazed at threads where 2 guys are spending pages just arguing and insulting each other.

Anyone remember the old British comedy show “Monty Python”? Remember the skit “I’d like to buy an argument”? A guy goes into a room and says, “Hello- I’d like to buy an argument.” The guy at the desk then says, “No you wouldn’t”, then the customer says “Yes I would”, followed by “No you wouldn’t”,,,,,

Sometimes that’s the way it goes in here!

Your first sentence is the ultimate truth. I was baited in order for un named poster to begin a personal attack on a difference of opinion yesterday.
The widespread inability to grasp that your opinion is no more right than mine is a little alarming and reveals underlying behavioral issues when the counter responses fly un filtered.
The ability to bite my tongue applied to my sarcasm of which I not only speak fluently, but hold a PHD in, is daily put to the test. Lol:)

Again, great post and your opening sentence sums it all up.

I would like to publicly apologize to anyone that I might have offended

I want a Cage Match thread. If 2 people set to kindergarten type arguing, that continues for more than 3 exchanges, the other posters in the thread can call for their posts to moved to the Cage Match thread, where they can continue their stupidity in private.

Maybe we could also place bets - an “over/under” on who hurls the most kindergarten level insults.

I prefer the self righteous indignation approach.

Not bullied but there have been a few stronger than necessary posts that I have seen. It doesn't bother me other than I don't like people who seem to think name calling and shouting wins arguments.
