Do you see Cam Newton being successful under Belichick in New England or should I say do you see NE being successful with Newton at QB?

Is Newton actually healthy? If so, how long can he stay healthy?

There's also the question: What is the standard of success? For the Patriots every year since 2001 their realistic standard of success was "win the Super Bowl". Anything less was failure. You could say that's the standard for every team but it's not really true. For some teams going from 2-14 to 8-8 would be a success or from 6-10 to a wild card berth. The win or die standard doesn't seem realistic for the Patriots this year. (OTOH on https://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/futures/ the Patriots are tied for 6th at +1700 to win the SB - tied with the Cowboys ) Maybe, for Belichick the standard is to do better than Tampa Bay.

OTOH the standard for Newton is to play well and make a playoff run. Even just winning a WC round game would mean he went further than Brady did last year. That sets him up for decent contract, though I can't see a really big contract with his injury history.

If Newton is 100% and can stay that way, the Patriots are basically set to repeat 2019.

Brady had declined somewhat, but their receiving weapons were really bad and they didn't have the cap space for any quick fixes, so Newton doesn't have a ton to work with beyond an aging Edelman and 2 new rookie TEs.

He might be able to make the run game work better between his own running and having a big arm to take deep shots... but it's unclear who the deep threat to catch those passes would even be right now.

If they have a breakout star at TE/WR out of nowhere then that all changes.

All depends on how driven Cam Newton is to succeed. If he wants to rehab the perception that he is a broken down one hit wonder, he will put in the work, and the Patriots will be successful. If not he will be benched and Jarett Stidham will get his reps.

In a normal year, I would define success as a division title. Anything short of that ... not a successful season.

However, this is not a normal year. So its really take it as it comes. If the Patriots are competitive on the field, then I would be happy. I don't see them taking on the powerhouse Chiefs, who seem destined to repeat because Patrick Mahomes is just that good. Can they be competitive with the second tier in the AFC - The stillers, the ratbirds, etc? If so, then yeah, its been a good year.

OR....Stidham will beat him out, w/ Hoyer as the backup. More likely.

Worst cultural fit ever. Cam is the antithesis of the Patriot way. He's all about himself and the show around him. He won't last long there.

You think Belichick didn't think about culture fit before he made the hire?

He has uncontested roster control, if the Pats take a player it's because he wants them on his team. Some showboating or whatever doesn't make him a bad locker room guy.

Its my opinion. I don't care if you agree. . Cam is a knucklehead.

I think NE signed him b/c they can burry him on IR and recoup a 3rd round compensatory pick when he leaves at the end of the year.

Newton won't be starting.

If Cam Newton is healthy, and has an understanding of the offense, then he will be the starting quarter back. He is better than Stidham, than Hoyer. No question about it. Players play.

OR....Stidham will beat him out, w/ Hoyer as the backup. More likely.

If Stidham can beat him out, then yes, he will be the starter. But based on what we've seen, Newton is a better player.

and please believe me, I would have preferred Stidham as the unquestioned no. 1. The fumble play from the Super Bowl irks me

Culture only matters when you aren't winning. Unless you are philly... they **** all over each other whenever they can

If Newton turns out to be a zero value scrub like you're assuming... they won't get a 3rd round comp pick for letting him walk.

The ranking system is convoluted but you have to basically be in the top 35% of all players to qualify your team for ANY comp pick.

The comp pick scheme only works if they play Newton and he does well enough that another team signs him for non-trivial money. If Newton looks like his career died in New England the Pats get a 7th rounder if they're lucky, and probably nothing.

Cam's game depends on his health. For the first time in his career, he'll have coaches who play to his strenghts beyond "go run around and make a play"

As I’ve stated before he will totally change the offense to suit him. They will be a different team on offense. McDaniels had success with Tebow and Cam is 20 times better.
