I think the original deal was over 100 million guaranteed, but you could be right, maybe we match goffs guaranteed at 110. Give him 70 in the first 2 years and 50 just to sign a piece of paper. lol.

In any case, given Dak's place among NFL Qbs, it was a very fair deal. I think Dak is looking for some retro pay for the past 4 years. Its the only reason I can think he wants more. I think Todd France gave him some bad advice last year letting him play for 2 million, and he's giving Dak some self-serving advice trying to save face.

Skip Bayless also said Troy Aikman was gay, Tom Landry was overrated, Johnny Manziel would one day be bigger than LeBron in Cleveland, Paxton Lynch was “cant miss”....this could go on and on.
I wouldn’t believe Skip Bayless if he told me the sky was blue.
Lol. Spot on. Rumor has it Skip tried selling ice to an Eskimo as well. :lmao:

I also made the observation that MAYBE Dak just doesn't want to be here past 2020. Its very valid. Holding a team hostage for something close to what Mahomes got was plain STUPID by Dak and the agent. He made his bed, good luck to him.
He is already throwing his agent under the bus to save face. Saying he would have signed the deal if it got done in time. And how he loves being A Cowboy. Can’t wait to play with his team and go for a SB. We will find out more soon. Don’t be shocked if he fires france and I hope he does. Best thing he can do is get away from him.

What Skip and Shannon are saying, they are saying Dak was offered more or less 35 million, which would make him close to around the second highest player behind PM. However that was not accepted. He wants close to 38-40 with a 4 year deal.
Skip “nails it” in so much as he offers up a take which obviously supports your opinion and fits your narrative.

Also, please cite a verifiable Cowboys statement (NOT from a “source” outside the team) that claims Dak was asking $38-$40mil per over 4yrs. If you cannot do so, then you’re simply speculating — just like every other Dak contract thread.

me thinks the agent was pushing for it more than Dak, and Dak kinda found himself in a corner. Now he must live with the potential consequences come 2021. Unfortunately, we will also be forced to find another QB in free agency and the draft next offseason. Thanks to this SNAFU. ALL SIDES MADE MISTAKES. The agent did no favors to Dak or himself. If anyone thinks for 1 hot second Jerry and Stevie will forget this, they just have a short term memory issue lol...THEY WON'T FORGET. Mark this down...next year when it comes time to make a deal, they wont budge. HE WILL BE GONE. In fact, MAYBE that was his plan all along. It almost looks bipolar, how Dak went about this. Bizarre...or passive aggressive.
Haha regarding the bipolar comment!

I agree Jerry and Stephen will not forgot this. They will be livid. It was a good legitimate offer and Prescott turned them down.

I understand that. But I don’t think anyone except Dak, his agent and the Jones boys know the whole story.
Exactly. Plus, there are others in the media that claimed Dak was willing to go with $33-35 million/year as long as it was a 4 year deal rather than a 5 year deal, so why would we believe Skip saying it would have taken $38-40 million for a 4 year deal?

I'm skeptical of all media reports that aren't based on actual facts released by the parties involved, but does anyone really think Skip is more credible than others in the media?

Pretty much everyone could earn more money working elsewhere. Sometimes people move on for that reason. But when people have a really good thing going they are often happy to stay put and take a slight hair cut on salary. Even Mahomes just did that believe it or not!

I agree. And I think his agent lost him at least 30 million by pulling out on the deal. And may have been his agent that said he could make some of it up. These agents pump these players up to get that money.

The deal turned down was goffs guaranteed money and Wilson per year amount. No way Dak himself wouldn’t have signed that. Wonder if he even knew the deal or if the agent just says I will let you know when to sign, don’t worry about anything. Lol.

If Dak was demanding Mahomes money, why was he trying to get the deal done directly at the deadline for a fraction of Mahomes money?

Mahomes money wasn't ever on the table, even in video games.

If Dak was interested in signing for reasonable money, why was the deal being discussed at the last minute, assuming it ever really was? I don't buy any of it. I don't believe Dak and his representation was negotiating in good faith, to the end. I don't believe they were asking for Mahomes money, not because they wouldn't ask for 45 mil AAV but because they would never ever consider signing even a 5 year deal, much less 10.

Retro pay. Is that a thing. It wasn't like he was La'el Collins who had so issue that dropped him out of the 1st round. The jury was out on Dak the year he was drafted, remember he was #3 going into camp.

He's been grossly underpaid by any measure for the past 4 seasons. There is no debate about that much.

Wrong

They are bashing the team for not paying him a contract that can cripple the rest of the team.

They dont share the best interests in the Dallas Cowboys

I'm saying that the loyalty is to the cowboys not Prescott. As soon as he signs with another team, nobody cares.
Even if he signs a team crippling contract, as a cowboy fan, its water under the bridge at that point and you root for the guy to earn that money. If we win a super bowl, it won't matter how much we paid him.

Well, actually there is. Why do you say "Grossly" underpaid? He received the pay that any player drafted at his position would have received, according to the salary slot his own Player's Union adopted. Why do you say he is underpaid?

Because he performed better than your typical 4th round pick. But what are you supposed to do? Suck intentionally to match your draft position or try to improve each season? He was offered a fair deal and he’s no where close to being the 2nd best Qb in the league.

“38 million a year is a total rip, he is not worth that.” A year later he is hoisting they trophy and MVP and “I am so glad we signed him, cut crawford.”

No.

Dak is here for $31.4m for this next season, yet fans are angry at the front office for not giving in to his ridiculous contract demands.

Explain to me, how that is in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys? As a Cowboy fan, why wouldnt you want an additional year to evaluate Dak under a brand new head coach? If the team underperforms once again, kick him to the curb and move forward with a new QB. If he reaches the NFC Championship game, offer him a fair, but not franchise-crippling, contract.

This is when you know agenda is strong if Skip is being consulted as support, lol.
