Wasn’t Brady worth it at 22-25 mil

Brady's defense last year allowed only 20 TDs in 16 games. They also intercepted 25 passes, most in the NFL.

Conversely, the Cowboys defense allowed 35 TDs and intercepted 7 passes, last in the NFL.

If you think that defense didn't help Brady "handle that adversity" you're kidding yourself.
I don't critique QB play by team record. The defense had nothing to do with the performance of the QB and or offense as a whole.

I'm in the crowd that thinks Brady is done. We'll see.

Didn't he have Edleman, Randy Moss and Welker at one point?

Technically they did in 2009 and although Moss and Welker were top 20 receivers, Lil Edleman couldn't crack the top 100 in WR stats. He played 7 games in that rookie season.

I fully expect the addition of our rookie Lamb, to make our trio dominant to that one. We shall see, but it should be the strongest corp of our team

I don't think 2019 Brady was 2007 Brady, or even 2017 Brady.

But I do think people underrate how bad the supporting cast on offense for the 2019 Patriots was. It was pure trash. WR was a revolving door, OL was depleted by key injuries, running back regressed massively. A lot of newbie players screwing up plays at the snap and leaving Brady hanging by running the wrong routes or missing blocks.

People who say his arm is dead didn't watch him play.

The Patriots held 11 opponents to 14 or fewer points last season. They went 11-0 in those games.

They went 1-5 in the rest of their games.

Defense, not Brady, carried that team.
I actually thought everyone already knew that. And to add, Brady was terrible in the playoff loss to the Titans. Man, is he ever gunshy now. Dude hears footsteps all the time, sometimes w/ no one near him.

People who say his arm is lively watched him play while drunk.

Why is there only a 2 year window? Remember the window that was supposed to close when Romo and Witten aged, yet here we are still talking about the window?

I think that gives you the answer - that the goal is to try and build a team that can be competitive for more than just a small window.
This is the correct way to look at it and, IMO is the way the Cowboys front office views roster development.

Good post O.

All the Cowboys needed to do was use one of their selections in the 2000 draft on Brady and we wouldnt even be having this discussion.

From a cutthroat business perspective? The smartest thing the Cowboys could have done would have been to tag and trade Prescott and sign Brady for that two year $50 million contract. You would then have two years or more to find and develop that young quarterback and have them learn under the GOAT.

And this is coming from someone who is a fan of Prescott's work.

It was definitely a missed opportunity, but the Joneses get attached to their players and don't even consider such things.

Maybe they did consider such things, but making them happen is a different thing.

They couldn't trade Prescott until he actually signed his franchise tag. Would Dak have signed sooner knowing he was going to get traded?

Were they going to find another team that was willing to give up draft picks and fork over a lot of money to Dak? I can see lots of teams investing a lot of draft capital to get a young, cheap QB. I can see lots of teams spending a lot of money on a big contract for a QB. I really don't see many teams being interested in giving up both draft picks and boatloads of money for a QB.

Could they have found a QB this off season to groom behind Brady of 2 years? I doubt Brady would have stayed in Dallas or currently in Tampa for more than 2 years.

I don't think criticizing them for not doing the smartest thing is fair as I don't think those moves were realistic. They couldn't have all happened.

Is this a Dallas Cowboys website or a Patriots website? No, the Cowboys have a QB who is relatively young and capable of good things. Brady is a former Pat and one who has already devoted his best years in the service of an organization that has chosen to divest him of their services for a good reason. Let's allow the Cowboys to make the most of their talent and continue to develop in a way to serve them in the future. Let's not be stupidly foolish.

Normally i'd say yes they should have done this. but look at the bronco's, they got Peyton for a few years & got a superbowl if my memory serves me... but look at them now they are a revolving door at QB. Finding a QB in draft is a total crap shoot if you find one you keep that one and ride with them. I do not want another X+ years of Quincy Drew / Chad to finally find a romo.

I don't know about this. Broncos like Drew Lock and he was actually playing decent ball towards the end of the season.

In hindsight , honestly , shouldn’t the cowboys just grabbed Brady for 25-25 mil for the best chance to reach the Super Bowl this year or next while we still have the talent on the roster ?
Does any one really believe Dak gives us a better chance than Brady in the 2 year window ?

The question is, how would Dak have performed losing two starters on the line and all his weapons at receiver?

Better than Brady but still not great. Brady was never going to have a great season last year, but his problems went well beyond that. Tom Brady 5 years ago makes that look serviceable. Tom Brady now is a slightly above average starter and it is not likely he trends upward this season.
