Wasn’t Brady worth it at 22-25 mil

I don't know about this. Broncos like Drew Lock and he was actually playing decent ball towards the end of the season.
Even if Drew Lock ends up being the right guy it doesn't change what he said about the Broncos QB situation being a revolving door since Manning. Semien, Lynch, Osweiler, Keenum, Flacco and Lock have all started games the last 4 seasons, and the jury is still out on whether Lock can stop that trend.

In hindsight , honestly , shouldn’t the cowboys just grabbed Brady for 25-25 mil for the best chance to reach the Super Bowl this year or next while we still have the talent on the roster ?
Does any one really believe Dak gives us a better chance than Brady in the 2 year window ?

Brady has been on the wrong side of the age limit for quarterbacks for years now, and it really showed last year. You have to question what he has left. Of course, you also have to question the weapons Brady had last year.

I would not have been opposed to Dallas going this route, but with the realization that Dallas would have to find itself a franchise QB in the next couple of years while potentially letting one go to another team. If the gambit didn't pay off (Brady is finished while Dak goes on to star), it would be panned for years if Dallas was unable to find another franchise QB.

This is coming from a fan who wants to see how Dak plays under McCarthy before either giving him a long-term deal (which I think is most likely) or searching for his replacement. It would be a questionable move to replace a young starter with an old vet who may have nothing left to give.

Technically they did in 2009 and although Moss and Welker were top 20 receivers, Lil Edleman couldn't crack the top 100 in WR stats. He played 7 games in that rookie season.

I fully expect the addition of our rookie Lamb, to make our trio dominant to that one. We shall see, but it should be the strongest corp of our team
Looking at the stats....Edleman was a rookie...had a nice rookie campaign though only started 7 games and had 400+ yards....but M"OSs and Welker weren't top 20 receivers they were more top 10 and hell production wise they were the best duo in the league. Moss led the league in touchdowns with 13...Welker led the league in catches and only started 13 games lol. I think you're selling them short....Hell if Cooper and Gallup have those type of years I'll take it.

big Brady fan here but no.

1 He would never work for Jerry
2 Tampa might not make it but he knows the Cowboys won't make it to the SB
3 He's too old to commit any sort of contract to.
4 behind the "best oline in Dallas" he would get kilt.

Brady's defense last year allowed only 20 TDs in 16 games. They also intercepted 25 passes, most in the NFL.

Conversely, the Cowboys defense allowed 35 TDs and intercepted 7 passes, last in the NFL.

If you think that defense didn't help Brady "handle that adversity" you're kidding yourself.
Damn 7 really. I can only remember 2 or 3.

Maybe they did consider such things, but making them happen is a different thing.

They couldn't trade Prescott until he actually signed his franchise tag. Would Dak have signed sooner knowing he was going to get traded?

The Seahawks tagged Joey Galloway years ago and got two 1st round picks from the Cowboys - for a wide receiver.

Were they going to find another team that was willing to give up draft picks and fork over a lot of money to Dak? I can see lots of teams investing a lot of draft capital to get a young, cheap QB. I can see lots of teams spending a lot of money on a big contract for a QB. I really don't see many teams being interested in giving up both draft picks and boatloads of money for a QB.

You take the best offer. And there certainly would have been at least one. Would that have been two 1st round picks? Unlikely, but numerous lesser players than quarterback have fetched two 1st round picks recently.

Could they have found a QB this off season to groom behind Brady of 2 years? I doubt Brady would have stayed in Dallas or currently in Tampa for more than 2 years.

They'd have the 2020, 2021, and 2022 drafts (if they waited until the last minute) to find a replacement, to say nothing of whoever hit free agency during that same time frame.

I don't think criticizing them for not doing the smartest thing is fair as I don't think those moves were realistic. They couldn't have all happened.

Sounds like a list of excuses so the team doesn't look bad.

However anyone wants to spin it, they ultimately chose all of the worst options.
  1. Not considering free agent alternatives
  2. Slapping the exclusive tag on the player for a higher cost
  3. Not getting a long term deal done
They handled things about as poorly as they could have. Like they've done for about two years now.

Of course we should have but you can't argue with a brick wall and the Dak infatuated :D
"
David Carr dominates Dak Prescott in a passing competiton
Dak couldn't even hit a stationary target and Carr was hitting them all, even the ones at the very end. We already know he can't hit a MOVING target......even a RB in the flat

Normally i'd say yes they should have done this. but look at the bronco's, they got Peyton for a few years & got a superbowl if my memory serves me... but look at them now they are a revolving door at QB. Finding a QB in draft is a total crap shoot if you find one you keep that one and ride with them. I do not want another X+ years of Quincy Drew / Chad to finally find a romo.

The key part of that is "got a Super Bowl".

That can't be minimized, especially since the Cowboys haven't come close in 25 years.

Who actually though brady wanted to play here under the jones'. LOL

I have to think that playing for America's Team - and the offensive weapons the team has - would hold more appeal than a team like Tampa Bay.

It seems to me that Brady had few options - likely just that one.

Brady lost two starters on the o-line, an all pro and likely HOF TE, and #1 WR before game 1.

How does Dak handle that adversity?
So, its ok to give Brady excuses on his poor play, but when those same excuses are given for Dak, it turns into "OMG Dak has to have everything so perfect for him to play well!!!!1111. A good quarteback should elevate below average players!!111!"

So by that inconsistent logic, Brady shouldn't have been signed because he's no longer good enough to elevate bad players, you know like you said Dak needs to.

Not excuses, it is reality. Your so called "smartest choice" was but a pipe dream. The easiest way Brady would have been in Dallas is if the Cowboys just let Prescott go, which wasn't going to happen. The chance of trading him was always low.

You say Dallas has done poorly and then also use their poor choice to trade for Galloway as a reason they could have and definitely would have gotten something in return for Dak. They weren't going to find a team to make such a drastic move.

You failed to answer the question of whether Dak would have signed the franchise tag, which is important. Until he signed the tag, he couldn't actually have been traded. He was on the exclusive tag because they actually do want him.

As I said, it wasn't just about a team giving up draft picks to acquire Dak. They would then also need to sign him to a very big contract as well. Teams have gotten so called "lesser" players, but the amount of draft capital and the money to get Dak from Dallas would have quite a bit more than other recent deals. Teams are willing to invest in the QB position, but you are expecting too much if you thing a team was going to give up multiple high draft picks and a top contract for Prescott. Teams do have limits on what they will do.

I'd say Dallas got exactly what they wanted. They have Dak locked up for this year to see if he will work in McCarthy's system. If they like him then they have the strong probability of locking him up for next year while working out a long term deal. If they don't, then they can move on rather easily from him.

This assumes Brady would choose Dallas if they came after him.

We don't know that they didn't put out a "feeler" to check his interest level. While they do talk too much, they don't tell everything. They might have quietly kicked the tires to see what he was looking for.

I never heard anything from Brady about his short list or what he was looking for with his next stop. He might have preferred someplace closer to water since he's spent most of his life around it. He also might have been looking for a more QB friendly HC and a little less headline making team.

but Gronk and Brady's experience, poise in the pocket and reading defenses all come with him..physically not the same but like Manning did for Denver, its might be worth a shot..
Wow, did you see Manning's last year in Denver? He was actually the worst QB on the roster that year, and he wasn't even as old as Brady. All of those intangibles you are talking about that Manning had his numbers were incredibly awful. The defense also carried that team.

Because you don't like it?

The easiest way Brady would have been in Dallas is if the Cowboys just let Prescott go, which wasn't going to happen. The chance of trading him was always low.

According to who? You? More excuses with no support. There's a trend.

You say Dallas has done poorly and then also use their poor choice to trade for Galloway as a reason they could have and definitely would have gotten something in return for Dak. They weren't going to find a team to make such a drastic move.

I gave it as an example of a tagged player - not under contract - being traded. Refuting another of your attempted excuses.

You failed to answer the question of whether Dak would have signed the franchise tag, which is important. Until he signed the tag, he couldn't actually have been traded. He was on the exclusive tag because they actually do want him.

Wrong, and that's exactly why I mentioned the Galloway trade. He wasn't under any contract in Seattle. Look into it.

And nobody has insisted that it has to be "multiple high draft picks". That's another of your inventions.

I'd say Dallas got exactly what they wanted. They have Dak locked up for this year to see if he will work in McCarthy's system. If they like him then they have the strong probability of locking him up for next year while working out a long term deal. If they don't, then they can move on rather easily from him.

Long live fandom...
