The new name will have no relation at all to the Native Americans.

I think you're right because I think he has already said something like the new name will have something to do with the U.S. becoming an independent country.

According to local insiders here in the DMV, they have a name picked out but there are copyright and branding issues that won't get resolved before the start of the season. This is just a placeholder "supposedly". I heard all the supposed "names" ie., Sentinels, Warriors, Generals, etc.. won't be the new team name.

You would think they'd have a degree of flexibility and find a name they could own permanently without having to go a season with an interim name. From a merchandising standpoint I cant imagine sales going well this season. If I was unfortunate enough to follow that sad excuse for a team Id hold out until next season to purchase gear.

Born around 1857, Cetan Luta (Red Hawk) was an Oglala Lakota from the Oyahpe band. He was a warrior and great leader who fought with Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull at Little Bighorn, and also bore witness to the harsh realities facing the Sioux people in both resistance and surrender.

Red Hawks?

Should have just went "Washington"

Adding "Football Team" sounds weird.

I suspect that the team will be sold as a consequence of the scandals. Delaying the new name allows for the next owners to do a total rebrand to help cut ties with the toxic past.

idk seems like the native american groups that have been trying to get a slur against them removed for decades are probably a tinge offended by the name.
While some "groups" show they are offended, you'll find more surveys showing very minimal are, as in less than 10%. The world needs to quit catering to the 1% that are offended by anything. The word started as a self identifier by indians, but my God because it was used as a negative term at some point later by people that are no longer around we can't have that.

The world needs to stop empowering the bad people that no longer exist, by saying it's offensive you are contributing to the lies currently in this world and are bringing back the hate that existed by few people back in the day.

The whole nfl is a clown show. Done with it. Hang here for the amusement from time to time.

The NFL is not a clown show. It is a collection of great minds that is maybe only rivaled by NASA. In fact, I read on somebody's twitter feed that Dontari Poe is being consulted by the NIH on all vaccine trials! He's like coming up with ideas and stuff.

True and in Arizona and Washington State there are high school on reservations and their mascot is the Commanders when they took a vote on keeping their name or changing it, overwhelmingly the students and community voted to stay the Commanders. You find that often it is a vocal minority that get what they want.

The problem is just about every name they can think of is trademarked by profiteers. ESPN did a story on one guy who years ago made it a hobby to collect possible new names to replace Commanders. He had trademarks on hundreds. So, its not just a matter of the team choosing a name. They have to negotiate and payoff somebody to acquire the trademark.
