Stephen you should have thought about that before paying Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott to a massive $90 million- six year contract extension last season.

Let’s be mindful that Zeke had two years remaining on his contract.

Although Zeke is one of the best running backs in the league, how do you give Zeke his money when he plays one of the most replaceable positions in football?

Ok.

It’s true Stephen offered Murray a low contract because they fed Murray twice as many carries as he had since he joined the league, but Murray was worth it and still had some gas in the tank at the age of 27. Stephen didn’t think he was worth his asking price and let him walk.

So, which is it?

And, by extending Zeke early, which they didn't care for but took advantage of, his cap hits would be not near 15mil a year until the very end when if his play dips he's an easy cut. People need to stop looking at total money cause very rarely will any player actually get all their salary from extensions.

Dallas signed him cause they found a way to make his contract flexible early and often-s long as he plays well. They also signed Smith to a team friendly team and struck early gold getting Collins locked up.

Blame goes on both sides, but there is no villain and victim among both sides.
As much as I cant stand Elliott personally and the contract is a disaster...

I'm glad they gave it to him.

It didnt leave that excuse to continue with the Garrett joke.

I've been saying it for several years. There's a new sheriff in town. Named stephen. Best thing to happen to cowboys in years. Ask zack, zeke, cooper, tank, jaylon or la'el how cheap stephen is. This article was filled with absolutely stupid comments. We let byron jones walk because we needed the money to sign dak. We let bryon have his day in the sun instead of tagging him. Dak and france thought at some point Jerry would intercede and cave in but he did not. The new sheriff isn't playing around.

Yeah, he bent over on both of those, but draws a line in the sand when it comes to quarterback?

Uh, yeah.....
Well between the kid's "ruthlessness" and Jerry's (wow fill in the blanks on this), we should be in fine shape moving ahead.

Bear in mind no team would EVER hire EITHER of them to run their team. They just happen to own it.

We all get all hopeful every year, but when the results arent there year after year, its logical to see why.

They sell hope very well. That's it.

Yawn. Fans were mad about Jerry being too reckless. Fans are mad about Stephen being too cautious.

All it boils down to is that fans won’t be happy until there is another Super Bowl title. At least until the first quarter of the next game.
Nobody was mad at Jerry for being "reckless"...we were mad at him for being stupid. Trading a 1st and 3rd for Roy Williams...trading #1's for Joey Galloway.....just stupid. Him signing bad contracts never had a issue with.

Yeah their good cop bad cop act is pretty cool.

If they dont separate it from the new coaching staff, nothing will change in Dallas.

YEah we're doing so well with Stephen the new sheriff in town..........

We let Byron walk because we needed the money to sign Dak? What type of sense does that even make?

A total of four number ones for WRs.

Nice work.

He's not perfect, but he's also probably the only reason the Redheaded Boat Anchor isn't still here.

Let's give his personnel a chance with a real coach -- who he probably had the biggest hand in hiring -- before we judge him too much.
Stephen keeps getting credit for moves he's not making. He is not responsible for the talent on this team.

There doesnt seem to be any plan.

I moaned about this weeks ago.

Hardball sometimes, cave others...

It's just a sequence of individual events, mostly reactionary.

No actual plan or direction. THATS what they cant see.

Yeah some people who don't like Dak are the ones excited but if people put their biases aside.......its troubling that they just spent all that money on Lawrence, Zeke and Cooper but got cheap with Dak who has been better and more consistent than all of them. I'm fearful they have no idea what the they are doing. Contrary to popular belief I don't think this Dak deal was suppose to end up with him being franchised. I Think incompetence played a part in this.

Jerry stayed out of it, just as he should. Stephen will hold coaches accountable. Something Jerry would not do.

I don't think they ever cared to re-sign Jones. Last year it was Lawrence, Cooper, Zeke(surprise!) and Dak as their main guys to get long term deals first.

Most of their comments came off wanting to get those guys down. IIRC Jones was usually sidestepped or the generic answers were given for him.

Either they didn't trust him long term, don't value the position money wise after Carr or thought some team would simply outbid them.
