My Father-In-Law is the Maintenance Chief for the Santa Ana Pueblo Indian Tribe here and so I went over to visit with him for lunch, just the other day. So it happens that we met up at the Filling Station, right by the Cassino and a Tribal Police Officer was there, whom I have known for a few years now. We got to talking, he knows I'm a Cowboy Fan and I know he's a Washington Fan. So I asked him what he wanted to call the team now and he told me, they will always be the Commanders. I asked him if he took offense to that and he said that he never felt like the name was Offensive. Said he thought the name and logo was cool.

I wasn't surprised because I've heard that before but I did think it was interesting that he said he wouldn't ever call them something other then the Skins.

Same with me. I went to high school with a brother and sister that were NA or half NA, I forget. But they were Commanders fans. I don't recall any controversy about the name back in the 80s, but I can't imagine they were offended. But hey, others are offended for them.

Each player will have a different helmet? I doubt the other owners will allow that. It's bad enough they'll be the Washington Washington Football Team. How will they refer to individual players? "He's a Washington Football Teamer"?

On the other hand WFT is pretty close to what their fan base tweets all game long.
How about "***" as an acronym for Washington Team Football?

Hail to the? There goes their fight song. They’re going to have to sort out a lot of things in Washington. All they have left are their colors. You have to figure a few fans will bail on them. Football is never going to be the same in DC.

For now. Give it time and someone will eventually be offended by their team colors.

Not keeping the same theme really makes things difficult for them. They could have gone back to the old 1969 circa logo with the spear on the helmet. Washington Renegades has a nice ring to it.

Their logo was only on their helmet not on the uniforms at all so they'll either just have plain helmets or stick with the player's number on the helmet.

Every team has had numerous throwbacks. Here's a blank, leather-themed helmet with logo on the shoulder pads.

While some "groups" show they are offended, you'll find more surveys showing very minimal are, as in less than 10%. The world needs to quit catering to the 1% that are offended by anything. The word started as a self identifier by indians, but my God because it was used as a negative term at some point later by people that are no longer around we can't have that.

The world needs to stop empowering the bad people that no longer exist, by saying it's offensive you are contributing to the lies currently in this world and are bringing back the hate that existed by few people back in the day.

Whether or not this is true, does it really matter? It's not like there aren't current self-identifiers out there that would be entirely unacceptable to use for a team name.

Obviously people are still going to call them the Commanders because they have no name.

I truly believe there will be large enough group of people that will still refer to them as the Commanders even after they decide on a name just because they were the Commanders for so long. Some will do it out of habit others will do it because they don't agree that the vocal minority should force them to change their name.

ok? This goes back to making an issue out of a non-issue because the .00001% (I made this number up, but I'm probably not off by much) of the population complained about something. Maybe we can start naming names of people and groups using these words in a hateful matter and put a stop to that, but what progress is made by attacking the team name?

An interesting logo would be of the nations capital with the letters DC on each side. Whatever logo and name they eventually go with their fans are going to hate it. It’s going to be like having a new team.

No progress what so ever. The Commanders is a slur? My God I'm so offended! Ok. But the tomahawk chop at Braves games was also offensive? Why? The chant or song at Chiefs and Seminole games offensive too? Really? People are even offended at the cartoon Chief Wahoo of the Cleveland Indians. Talk about needing a life. It must be very difficult to live in a world where you're offended at just about anything.

sorry for being a little confused, are you just added to my post or are you suggesting I'm offended?
