i said last year dak wouldn't sign. he would not acknowledge the the lesson of the pie chart. (possibly he didn't care) now that he has a much better understanding of said pie, signing him next year is far more likely. the fo was severely criticized by many for stating their desire to have dak be our qb of the future as if this was a poor negotiating tactic. seems better than denigrating him prior to dealing. now dak says "i'm a cowboy and couldn't be happier" will we now accuse dak of being a fool for having said that. is he weakening his bargaining leverage for saying he's a happy cowboy?

I said so too, but for different reasons. Dak is taking the Kirk Cousins path to riches, and before the economic downturn, I thought it was a pretty good plan.

Dak should say Garoppolo's deal is his ceiling and it goes from there.
AmIright?

He forgot to add “but we’re not going to cripple the team for him”

We probably could have signed him him for 35-37 million for 4 years.

Next Year will be more. Tag alone is 37.7. You think he’s going to resign for less than that?

Nah.
If they wanted him that much, they'd signed him by now.
They may not have written him off, yet, but the cowboys are looking for other options.

For tank, zeke, zack, cooper, la'el, and jaylon, it tasted very good. For dak, not so good. Perhaps next years pie will taste better.

Ultimately:

In the future, when the DC need a 35yo veteran backup on a cheap deal, and an over-the-hill Dak is available...

The verdict isn’t in yet. Dak could still get too big a piece of the pie or leave the Cowboys without a QB. I’d say he has the upper hand now.

What would be in our face is he takes us to a championship and then says screw ya and signs a huge contract somewhere else.

All we can do is project the future, but you make perfect sense.

Dude's here convincing themselves the Cowboys gave up on Dak. NFL teams always offer over $100 million guaranteed to players they don't like.

Doesn't matter if you like him or I like him, the Cowboys like him. If you think they don't still want to sign him you're kidding yourself. :muttley:
