Agreed. You know, some of the same people who want Dalton instead of Dak are also the ones who say that we should get rid of Dak because he "can't elevate the team around him".

Well, if Dalton could do that, which he'd have to be if anyone thinks he's a better choice, why didn't he on the Bengals? Yeah I know "he didn't have the same caliber of team as Dak has had", but that's purely subjective, unless you can go back in time and put Dak on the Bengals/Dalton on the Cowboys, it's all supposition.

Dalton had A J Green, Tyler Elfert, and several Pro Bowl defensive players, but never won a playoff game...

Cinci had the opportunity to grab arguably one of the most astounding NCAA QBs in many years. Just a ridiculous season. When you go that high up...there's not that many QB's who could survive. He's gonna start.

People say the same thing about Barry Sanders..."he never had a good team around him". Wrong. It was WAY better than Daltons...imo.

I appreciate the responses. However, I have read every one and notice some of the people who continually rag on Dak have no answer on how to replace him.

You see this is not a simple task pinpointing how to remove a player you feel is being unreasonable about his salary

Couple of things. And I have never seen this addressed, although I do not read every post on this site. If you have mentioned it before, tip of the hat.

Dak was going into a year where he could, should, or would have been offered a contract past his rookie level of pay. The team re-upped Cooper without a great deal of problems. Zeke forced his pay raise. The board here was livid.

My opinion is Dak took his hard line position then when the team paid Zeke before they paid their QB. As far as business decisions, Zeke's move - I suspect that was his agent's idea - was brilliant. After-all this is a business that doesn't really give a rat's rectum about your feelings. I think Dak would have been more pliable to the team had they allowed Zeke to sit out.

Now I am a huge Zeke fan. But this contract shoving match he played on the team, while business wise was a smart move, caused at least some, if not most of the situation with Dak's contract we see.

*Convert Dak's tag status to Non-Exclusive after signing Andy Dalton.

*If Dak is signed by someone else, the team gets two 1st round choices. (Likelihood is subjective here that someone would pay that price.)
The added aspect is if Dak is truly what you think, a mediocre talent, then the team he goes to should not elevate making the first round choices at the bottom of the first round.

*Dak stays because no one wants him. You play him and let him walk after the season. But, you now are in a start over mode.

*If Dak is hired away. Give Dalton a year to show you what he has. If he reveals he has been limited by the Bengals and has a skill set which could translate to a deep play-off run, then bonus. But you have to resign him, and this starts all over again about what he is worth. He will demand a great deal of money and you have one year to see if he packs the gear. Your decision is made on a player who was either better than the league thought and you have found a great replacement. Or he was in a perfect storm in Dallas for one year and you just resigned a guy who will never reproduce his one year wonder.

*Accept, if Dalton turns out to be what he was in Cinny, now your team is in a serious rebuild. You have some contracts which are ridiculous since you do not have the seminal piece on offense. You now have pushed Zach, Gallup, T. Smith, J. Smith, Pollard, Vander Esch, Jarwyn, and Tank into the back half of their careers. Some will come up for new contracts, and since the team will be in a status of rebuild, and some are valuable, you will see an exodus of some talent that supports the top guys. Like Pollard. You might be able to jettison some of these contracts. Make some trades to ease the burden, but you are now in a major rebuild. And this team that once was at the top of this league for 40+ years is now the Cleveland Browns.

Let's say you can get to the top of the draft. If you held on to your stars, you still will need several years before this guy matures. And some of the people you rely on now are on short contracts.

But the biggest folly of all is thinking this QB that was drafted this year will end up being something special. Like Romo.

As far as the guy who called me out that this was a trap. Nice strawman argument. Deflection, what a thoughtful response.

You see, the point of this was coming up with a solution and not sit around complaining. This site is littered with a position of malcontents who want to regurgitate the same old non specific claims about Dak. It truly made the last year a beat down.

I get what you are saying.....you want people to own up to their opinion. I get it. However....just because you may not have a solution to the problem doesn't necessarily make it NOT a problem.

You also don't have to be orbital mechanics and jet propulsion engineer to tell NASA facked up a few times.

Now....let it be known that I do not necessarily think Dak is "a problem". But if people think a big contract is problematic...that's an honest assessment that can stand on it's own.

so if he has a good year and the D and special teams lay an egg they’re going to make a QB change?

Any QB change I think will be money/cap related. But no one here knows what those demands will be next season.

After trading Adams, along with Mosley opting out, the Jets May wind up really stinking up the joint. And I don’t think they Rosen Darnold. Could be a partner

I have read the posts. I believe them to be unreasonable. But that's me. I am still in a show me state. But I am patient and believe good things are ahead for Dak. But this is not about me.

This is about..........

So tell me how you would handle this. How will you jettison Dak? How will you replace him? How about the fact this team has been built and waiting on the perfect drafted guy will take several seasons? How will you reconcile that?

Truthfully not interested in your assessment of Dak. We can assume here if you actually respond to this you want him gone and you have your reasons

Tell me your plan. Vegas might not take action on anyone really having a plan. I think this is merely grousing.

But you are the GM with the team in its current situation.

How and where do you find the QB you think is a winner and how will you fit that guy into the cap.

Step up to the microphone. Let's hear it.
OK for one thing dallas is the only team that does not have a real GM, so your question should have been if you are Jerry what would u do.
And it isnt easy, Dak isnt a bad qb, and we have only seen him under JG led teams, so to be fair we really need to see him play under the
new HC and his staff.
Now the main problem, isnt is Dak good enough, it is whether he is worth the big salary he wants. That is the rub.
He is our guy now for 2020, no way around that.
He will start and if he plays good, and they win enough , they wont ever put dalton on the field, unless dak gets concussed or hurt.
If dak were to play really bad, which is doubtful all things considered, then MM might put dalton in to see what he looks like.

Now TC is another thing, what does Dalton and Dinucci , and Dak look like in camp?? We dont know lol no news so far.
So it is hard to say what I would do since I have no info in that area.

Now lets say I dont want to pay dak that much , and dallas gets knocked out by div round or worse, and if Dak looks the same or worse,
Then there are ways to go, but what I would do if that were the case would be to tank this year and go for getting the # 1 or 2 pick and get
Lawrence or fields, without having to trade up.
You have to give to get, and you would be giving up this season.
They could start Dalton or Dinucci, but the only problem is what if they play good, lol and are winning games ? So even tanking isnt easy.

you cant count on trading up, because the teams with top 2 picks, might want to use them, and they might want those 2 QB's.

The other thing I might do is go with any decent cheap bus driver qb, get him to focus mainly on not turning ball over, and build
a great defense.

There is no easy out or sure thing, even if you keep dak and sign him, there are no guarantee's that will work either.

Best thing is start dak see how it goes, do they go 5-0 or 3-2 etc, and go from there, and be prepared to go to dalton or dinucci, in a effort to win
or tank.

Dak was offered 33 mil/year before last season started. The "coulda shoulda" statement isn't accurate.

So far, Dak as lost millions due to the brilliance of this agent.

You think Dak and his agent are being babies because Zeke got paid first? Are they really that immature and childish?

Dak is a QB who is, evidently, a work in progress, somewhat similar to what Romo was, in the past. A typical pro QB requires time to become his ideal self. Oftentimes, it might take several years or more to arrive at their peak performance. Romo was one of those and I think perhaps Dak might well be one of those, as well. Let's see what the future holds, lest we arrive at an anxious perspective that may or may not do him justice. ;)
Romo wasn't half the qb dak is after 4 years in the NFL

He didn’t have the greatest rookie QB season ever, or anywhere close to it. He’s a dink and dunk guy who was propped up by his teammates. He had 3 game manager seasons and 1 outlier season fueled by garbage time. The hyperbole is stupid. He can be replaced by literally anyone with a pulse who can stand in a clean pocket and throw to wide open guys.
My only hope is that when he’s gone that the weird trolls on this site like you follow him to wherever it is he ends up. Because while Dak may or may not be missed, you certainly won’t.
Imagine writing all that misinformation in one post lol.

No, why would he?

Dak doesn't deserve what they offered him.

Now, he can go prove it, which I don't think he will. Probably plays somewhere else next year for far less than what Jerry offered.

But we'll see. Dallas is sitting nice in this.
Bruh what happened I haven't seen you on twitter. Did you get tired of getting destroyed because of your trash opinions? NVM found you lol

That's probably a matter of opinion. Mine is that I think they are comparable. Others would likely contend the opposite of what you claim.

Let's also recall that Romo's first three years were limited to sitting on the bench. Four years for both as starters were comparable to me.

There have been countless posts refuting the exact statements you made in that post. Here I'll help with your garbage time stats lol

The crazy thing is many of those who continuously post misinformation about Dak or any player they dislike already know they are being untruthful and do it anyways facts be darned.

Kazuya doesn't believe the things he writes again they are a complete opposite of what is actually documented as fact.......when you question him he comes back with nothing...

:muttley:

It's a team game. Everyone will be judged if the team underperforms.

It would be 5 years with Dallas and one with McCarthy for Prescott. A decision has to be made. You have to **** or get off the pot.

I predict Dallas elects to move on. At that point McCarthy will have the say as to the next QB will be. McCarthy will live or die by this choice.

The franchise tag is perfect for him. We have two years of tag control I say we use them. I personally see no reason to be worried at the moment. Lets see what he can do. Defense and special teams and depth are the real issues.

There simply isn't a way to answer that question this early before the 2021 draft. We don't know what teams will be picking in the top 10. We had 3 QB needy teams in the top 6 in 2020. We might have none in the 2021 draft. I highly doubt the Cowboys will do poorly enough to be able to trade up for Lawrence. But that's another unknown. A lot of unknowns right now. I don't know how good this guy is going to be, but wasn't Drew Lock picked up in the 2nd round? It's too hard to be specific other than to say I'd rather go with Dalton and draft a rookie over throwing all of my eggs in one basket with Dak at that price.

The chances of bad results are possible in both cases. Think of the players we drafted this year. How many of them are we going to keep if they turn out really good with Dak taking up close to 20% of the cap?
If Dallas finishes w 3-4 wins and gets a top 5 pick, it's still going to cost multiple firsts to get Lawrence...and expect to be held up for Lamb or Gallup also. Maybe a young OL as well.

It's not only about moving down a few slots, ita about what other teams may offer.

If I'm a team like Chicago, I'd deal the entire store for a shot to draft Lawrence.

Bottom line is theres no real shot Dallas gets Lawrence. It would have to begin with both Prescott and Dalton going down for the year on or around week one.

I don't think we have a shot at Lawrence. But we definitely have a shot if we're in the top 5. I just don't think that's going to happen. But all good QBs aren't only drafted high in the first round.
