Remember though Parcells gave Payton a shot again after he was stripped of his playing call duties and eventually let go by the Fassel and the Giants who went on to the SB and lost to the Ravens after Payton was relieved.

Looks like 5 eventual head coaches on that staff.

Beats the heck out of that clown show of misfits that were lining up to work under Garrett, and/or shoehorned in by Jerry.

Jerry has a lot to prove before I'm buying that he has learned anything.

He was certainly not ready in year 1, but by 2005--at least some time during 2005-- Romo should've been starting. Woodson and other players said he was their best QB by then.
Big Bill was extremely risk-averse, so he liked his old veterans to make him feel safe. The recipe worked when he had a all-decade level defense in New York.
Maybe Tony struggles some in 2005 but it would not have been worse than what they had.
Plus they'd have him a full season starting in 2006 and definitely not holding on snaps...lol

One coach in particular was a stand out and was a favorite of Romo's, David Lee. His claim to fame in football is that at Arkansas he created the Wild Hog, which would eventually be called the Wildcat. The Pistol was a derivate of that as well.

I recall being more frustrated with BP over not playing Drew Henson as opposed to Romo.

Maybe it's my memory.

I was convinced Henson was the savior. Now we know why BP didnt want to play him lol.

Romo’s career could have been even shorter having to play with Torrin Tucker and Rob Petitti at tackle in 2015. Not sure how many people remember, but Bledsoe took a serious beating in the second half of that season after Flozell Adams tore his ACL.

Yeah we screwed up there but I don't think any of those guys would've worked in Dallas honestly. Except Payton. I think Payton was the one guy who could've flourished here.

Yes, but the idiot Parcells one year wouldn't even name Sean Payton OC. Named him something like Passing Game Coordinator.

Sean Payton couldn't wait to get out of Dallas away from the 3 yards and a cloud of dust Parcells.

Too bad, if he had given Payton a legitimate chance to run his offense we might have had a better squad and Payton might have shown something special and Jones might have looked to him instead of the horrid Garrett.

Bledsoe was a statue at that point in his career and Romo was very mobile as a young dude.
Who knows, but I think he would've done as well or better than Bledsoe.
Then in 2006, maybe he really rolls with a full offseason of reps and 16 games starting, and we get home field and he's not a holder (should not have been anyway but just saying for sure he wouldn't have been).
All theory. Who really knows.

There was a reason Payton wanted to trade for Romo when he went to New Orleans. Romo hadn't even started a game yet and Payton knew what we had.

This was not true, that he couldn't wait to leave Dallas. First off Payton was stripped of his play-calling duties while with the Giants, Parcells gave him another chance. He actually was offered the Raider job, but decided to stay another year when better opportunities would be available. Parcells advised him to sign Brees as a fa, rather then drafting and developing a college prospect.

Payton left the year before Parcells retired. What was Jerry supposed to do, fire a legend like Bill Parcells and name Payton his successor?

And Zimmer leaving was on Parcells. Bill took so long to make his decision that Mike had to get a job somewhere, and he did at Atlanta.

The others, meh.

What Jerry should have done, though, is fired Garrett after 2013 and hired Zimmer when he was available.

Man I've seen some of these guys take shots at Jerry the last couple of days. 1. Actually saying because the cowboys are worth 5.5 bil there should be no reason they cant pay Dak . ( My god really?) 2, Jerry brought in JG and let these guys go. (Yeah, that's not exactly how it worked out.)
