Wow!... Is that 4 pro bowl DL added this off-season now?

I didn't think it would happen with Griffen. McCoy, Poe, Smith, Griffen :omg:
This is turning into a deadly rotation folks. I have more faith in the defense this year for sure.

I question this also if it is the end of Gregory. But then I read where Griffen can play inside. So Thought, dump Crawford. And keep Gregory as well.

at an added 285 pounds, we could even slide Alden Smith inside at some nickel interior packages too - we have some flexible and options
we're not as hostage bound with sub- rotational Crawford as some may think.

Its no coincidence that once the freckled puppet left the building good things have started to happen. Can you guys imagine how our rotation could be if Aldon Smith shines?

There is a lot of versatility in what the DL will be able to do with those guys. Smith in particular can play RDE, LDE, or slide inside like you said. He would create similar problems to what David Irving caused at 3-tech.

do you remember when the NYG were sliding DE jason tuck inside in nickel packages to create mismatches vs pass ..and he'd give our interior blockers in Gurode. Leonard Davis and Kyle Koller (sp) all kind of hell on earth .. ??

Wow. Wonder if this the end of Gregory in Dallas?

Anywho. Great offseason for this team. New leader, great draft and a very good FA.
To be honest, this is better for Gregory "if" he gets reinstated. Still don't what we're missing in that back and forth. But he won't be relied upon and can kind of come in under the radar. Get back into game shape, etc. Back to being a pleasant surprise type of scenario instead of relying on him and A. Smith.

Great move by the team getting Griffen.

Right now, we have six players ahead of him: Lawrence, Griffen, McCoy, Poe and Woods (because Crawford doesn't play 1-tech). If Aldon Smith is what I think he is, we have seven.

Lose either Smith, Griffen or Lawrence to injury than we just have starting ends with no one to rotate with them unless we're sure of one of the young ends. Frankly, if it was a choice between Armstrong and Crawford, I'd take Crawford easily right now.

On the inside, we have more options on passing downs. On running downs, though, I wouldn't want any of our ends other than Crawford playing 3-tech at this point. Maybe Gallimore changes that by giving us another quality DT. Maybe Hill. But otherwise, on running downs without Crawford, we have a three-man proven rotation (McCoy, Poe and Woods). Take one of them out of the picture then you are relying on the rookie or the second-year guy.

As I've said, I don't mind Crawford being cut. He's not worth $9 million. However, I'd rather see a young guy give us reason to cut him, than just cut him and hope that one of the younger players can step up. Despite how some feel about Crawford, he's been better than the types we've tried to replace him with, and I believe his absence contributed to our DL not playing as well last year as it did in 2018.

The scary part for a heavy vet team on defense will be injury concerns without team workouts and strength and conditioning for the last 7 months.

32 year old linemen can’t just go from their couch to the field and be in pro bowl shape.

Do we know the length of the deal?

I hope it's 2 years.

Is the 3-4 going to get some consideration?

Nickel remains the true base defense in the NFL.

Personnel 2017 Pct 2018 Pct 2019 Pct
Nickel - 52.3% - 60.5% - 55.9%

Cowboys specifically:
Team Base Rk Nickel Rk Dime+ Rk
DAL - 32% - 7 - 63% - 13 - 4% - 22

or if you want to look at Mike Nolan, who was a defensive assistant coach for the Saints last year:
Team Base Rk Nickel Rk Dime+ Rk
NO - 16% - 29 - 64% - 11 - 19% 14
