we gave dak 31 mill this year and we signed plenty....Lawrence, Zeke, Smith, Smith, Cooper, Collins all got big contracts....so it didn't hamper us. we handed out a bunch of mid level contracts to crawford, griffin, poe, mccoy....so it didn't stop us..... those first 6 are supposed to form corner stones of a great team....based on their contract.....the other ones supposed to solidify the team and then you have the rest, just like anybody else. you get a CD or Diggs and you put a team together.
yet, of those 6, we got only cooper to perform to level of his contract. the rest nothing....I understand injuries, but it still doesnt' change the facts that we are getting zero from those and nothing. zilch. nada from the other signings.
so even if we signed dak for the next three years, as the salary cap is expected to go up, there would be room. plenty of room...and yes yes yes, I know next year is expected to have a drop in salary cap....for all of the league....so its not just for the cowboys and the league has to figure out a way around it or else, there will be plenty of cheap veteran labor available.
and therein lies the problem. not in Dak's contract. its the other investments that haven't paid off at all. none of them are earning what they are paid, except maybe, just maybe cooper.
so wrong....signing Dak to long term contract would actually help us be able to defer money to the future.....and open up cap space...having him as a franchise tag is actually hurting our space in cap....
