Michael-Irvin-GETTY.jpg

Michael Irvin was a part of some of the biggest partying teams in football history the Miami Hurricanes of the 1980s and the Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s.

I’m not sure I believe him. Between the existence of the White House and reports of him running plays in practice while puking and then running more it would seem partying just happened.

Lawrence Taylor used to do coke during games. That’s scary— a coked up LT flying around the field crushing people. Whatever Irvin did, it worked. Good on him.

So did Mickey Mantle. They had success, and they enjoyed it.

Great for them.

It's a lot better than just holding out for a contract then mailing it in thereafter.

The amount of heart in Irvin vs a guy like Elliott is a joke of a discussion.

I wouldn't put anything past Michael Irvin but I wasn't always there to prove he wasn't what he claims to be. What I do know is that Michael was the most intensely devoted player to train with a passion to exceed any player we had on our roster during his time as a Cowboy. He was one of the first players to arrive for practice and the last one to leave. I'm unsure we could claim that for anyone else on our current roster. Times have changed in that respect. I attended enough practices back in the day to believe that. He was every bit as devoted as he was wild.

I honestly don’t care what they do if they show up to work each day
Other than getting in trouble with the league

Irvin did some of both, without a doubt but his devotion to being a special player was never in question. His teammates knew that,
He showed up on practice field and he showed up in games
He did create some problems too
His behavior is his business just keep it from the league and I could care less

Irvin was passionate to a fault, at times. His problems often stemmed from that characteristic. It also helped to make him a great player.

That could be anyone on this team, none has the fire and heart as the "PLAYMAKER".

It was early in the summer of 1993...

My twin brother was working as a ticket agent for American Airlines out of Valley International Airport down in Harlingen, Texas. I had gotten out of work around 3 pm with UPS, and my brother needed for me to go pick him up from work since his car was getting fixed in a car shop, and he was about to get out of work by 4 pm.

I showed up around 3:30 and walked inside to let him know I was already there waiting for him.

Long story short...

My brother told me Michael Irvin had just flown in through American Airlines since he was scheduled to make a guest appearance at a night club (Club X) presentation later on that Saturday night in McAllen, Texas.

As I decided to wait for my brother inside the airport at their main lobby, my brother showed up and had me follow him towards the back where their AA employee offices were located. That's when my brother introduced me to Michael Irvin #88!!! Michael was so down to Earth, polite yet very talkative. He talked to my brother and I as if he had known us for years. He was grateful that my brother had greeted him so well and made him feel so comfortable, so he invited us to join him that evening at Club X! Michael offered to pick us up in his rented limousine at our place in Harlingen, but my brother and I couldn't make it because it was our grandparents' 40th Year Anniversary, and the whole family was going to celebrate my grandparents' anniversary at a local dance hall.

My brother and I were bummed since we truly wanted to go party with Michael Irvin, but Michael understood and told us not to skip out on our grandparents' anniversary party. Instead, he took pictures with us and gave us an autographed picture each. Sadly, I lost my picture during my divorce back in 2006. My ex probably kept it (she said she didn't have it, but I'm sure she did since her father is also a hardcore Cowboys fan).

Oh, well. I'll always cherish that memory of Michael Irvin #88! ☆

Michael, Michael, Michael,........partying is not exactly the word i would use for his actions and some of his teammates actions during the White House days. Its not like they brought cake, cookies, party hats and a pinata..... He even stated once, "We were trying to do the wrong thing, the right way"...LOL.....but yes i agree he was probably the ring leader. But he did show up most of the time on the field and was a leader on the field come gameday.

wasn't that a bogus claim?
No. He flipped out and cut Everett McIver's throat. He was just lucky he didn't do as much damage as he could have.

If he'd happened to have a knife lying around instead of the scissors he used (it was a squabble over McIver not letting him cut in line to get a haircut, so scissors were the handy weapon laying around), he'd have landed himself in a real jackpot.

Irvin is such a boss. That dynasty started and ended with him. Can you imagine him and Jimmy on this team. Irvin would have a pretty long list of guys for Jimmy to get rid of. That is so what is needed around here.
