I saw the thread on dak and zeke might not be here next year but i say this is more likely,

IMHO the plan might be a sad one(well for me),

Dak plays under another FT if not traded , and both he and Zeke have 2021 to finish 2016s window of opportunity.. after that i believe Dak, Zeke, Dlaw, Coper, and other big contracts will be jettisoned and 2022 will be new ERA..

heck even crazier to think we end up top 3 and pick Fields or stumble into Lawerence and still sign dak as a FT guy and give that QB a year to learn..2022 could look a lot like 2016 but with careful planning.

we can use our high picks round 2 &3 on defense,, maybe trade back into round 1 or get 2 -2nd round picks with packages. Use a few FA day one picks also on defense. Load up for one run in 2021 before it all blows up.

not saying that what is going into happen but for sure its a crazy possibility to ponder.

If I'm a GM, I'm thinking hard about this, sounds crazy to take a QB high and Sign Dak to a FT deal and expect him to be ok with it but it could happen..

I know i know a complete Hypothetical but hey what else do we have to do right now...

the fact that you are thinking thru things based on reality of contracts, etc. shows you are way ahead of a lot of posters.

Zeke will be here. Some goofball mentions this in an article, and everyone go hog wild like it really could happen.
Dak on the other hand, all because of his injury and FA stats, is a different deal.
However I give it an 80% chance he will be signed and be here. The one thing that could derail that, is if the cap really does drop, and no deal is reached by the time they will need to tag him, or they may tag, then rescind later.

I mean anew qb/RB combo ie a new window will open as one closes ie Romo/Murray era gone, Dak/Zeke 2016, 2022 will have very different feel HYPOTHETICALLY...

but Duh was very well thought out and educated response LMAO:muttley:

2021 will be 2016 in the sense that they don't play backup quarterbacks and the team will be good.

2022 won't have a new QB.

Also, trying to predict this organisations future is more futile than trying it anywhere else and it's always gonna be fairly pointless.

its why i said it was a hypothetical scenario , not much worse then the other crazy threads where every coach is fired, every player cut or traded, and the owner disappearing somehow..

I guess you could be right OP.
But then again, with this MORONIC and STUPID front office we have, nothing excited me anymore.

There are some parallels for sure. Trevor Lawrence as the rookie quarterback. CeeDee Lamb playing the part of Dez Bryant. A bottom 10 defense.

But you’re missing the most important part: in 2016, we had the Great Wall of Dallas. That offensive line was dominant and lined with studs. Next year’s offensive line is a serious question. You have Zack Martin and La’El Collins as anchors and I really like what I’ve seen from Tyler Biadasz. But both experiments with the “Connors” has been an abysmal failure and Tyron Smith is at the end of his career and can’t be counted on anymore.

So for 2021 or 2022 to look like 2016, you need to find two pieces on the offensive line.

the only real hope you have of life without dak for us to get a top 2 pick. Then the cowboys have to make a conscious decision to trade dak and go with the rookie. Then they have to get a great offer for dak and do the deal. All very unlikely.

more likely scenario if we get a top 2 pick is to trade the pick and get a windfall for someone wanting to move up.

but any pipe dream where they ever let dak walk for nothing would not only be detrimental to the franchise but also will never happen.

First, we need to ensure Dak can even walk again. The way he looked at that foot dangling off a splintered leg... the look was incredulous. Then the pain hit. Been there. Why isn't this part responding to my brain? Hope he will be fine and back stronger than ever.
