Will potentially drafting a quarterback be a large mistake?

So far all the first round quarterbacks drafted in the first round these past 5 years all have losing records except for just 4.

Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, Mahomes, and Jared Goff.

3 hyper athletic generational talents and Goff having a world class coach.

Odds don’t seem great to replicate their success

Weird. I could swear Buffalo is 6-2 with Josh Allen, Cleveland is 5-3 With Mayfield, The Dolphins are 4-3 with Tua.

Well, you should include that little factoid in your post, shouldn't you?
Some of us are not mind readers or psychics. We read and respond to what is written.

BTW, it took Troy Aikman 4 years to have a 27-27-0 record.
First year 0-11, 2nd 7-8, 3rd 7-5 totals 14-24.
His 4th year 13-3 made it an even 27-27.

Context makes a difference!

When you already have a great one in their prime, yes, it would be a terrible mistake (unless we pick 1 overall and take Lawrence).

I looked up the last 50+ first round QBs a while back and the hit rate was around 15 percent.

I can see we will have lots of arguments if we secure a top 5 pick in this draft. Some will want a quarterback, others will want the best defensive players, I want Sewell personally, and others will say trade down. I don’t think anyone is wrong. This offseason on this forum will be fascinating.

In a perfect world there would be a Chase Young AND Jeff Okudah type prospect we could argue about...unfortunately there isn't that caliber player this year.

QB aside...top talents are Sewell, Parons and Chase. We just drafted a WR that I think is Better prospect than Chase so he's out for me. Then it comes down to Sewell and Parsons.

Heard Okudah has been terrible

Let’s see what happens at the combine. Okuda is not much better then Diggs if at all. Surtain Jr is a serous player that has bloodlines. Gregory Rousseau and Caleb Farley are good prospects as well. They both are sitting out along with Parsons.

Aikman gets a pass because there was no salary cap.

By the fifth year even guys like jameis Winston make 25 million

lets hope so

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State a Dak clone

Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

If they keep Dak or not.....maybe this season is a blessing in disguise. We are going to get a few good players and stock up with players with real solid grades. As somebody pointed out.....Drafting a QB is a Crap Shot...u don't know how it will turn out and most QB have a losing record for the first couple of years. I am all for keeping DAK...but if they don't agree on a contract I don't think they have a choice. Dak is going to have to decide if 4-5 million a year is worth going to another team and trying to be the leader of that team. Not many QB or are traded or released or allowed to go to another team are every the same with their new team. Maybe Dak Rookie year will be the BEST year he will ever have per team results. We don't know. Draft a QB in Round 1 next Draft is still just a "guess" they don't know what is going to happen, but if no deal with DAK I don't think you can risk losing him after next year for nothing. At that point Franchising him and trading him might be the best option. I like what I seen from Fields and their is not guarantee he will be a star. and before you see Murry from Phoex and QB from Chargers are winning...they haven't won anything yet. Phili Went / Jet Donalds / Cleveland Baker /. Verdict you have to take the chance if you think you are going to need a QB. I honestly would be happy if DAK signs a contract that makes sense for everybody...but if he doesn't and they trade him...welll ..that's just how it goes. People forget that before Dak, we have Romo and before that....ohters and before them Aikman, Stauback the list goes on....Dak will not be the last QB for the Cowboys.....and at this point he might not be the BEST either. He needs to decide....does he want to be the Dallas Cowboys QB with a high DRAFT Pick helping on DEF or does he want to go to another team and try to win......with a new organization where if you don't perform ....u get your money but they will waive you if you don't produce.

Okudah was a much better prospect than Diggs...and I’d bet a ton he’ll be a better pro. Rookie CBs usually struggle...Okudah and Diggs both are.

I think Surtain will run in the mid 4.5s and Rousseau is a tweener that’s probably better suited inside.

Farley is a stud in coverage but can’t tackle but he’s probably one of my top targets if we can trade down.

It’s a weak class if you’re looking for blue chip D talent.

If you’re anti QB then Sewell seems like the obvious next choice if he is as good as everyone says he is.

But a lot of people can’t comprehend the importance of that position so they will scream for defense.

KYLE TRASK i take in the second

I think he’s easily a first rounder..

Ive been watching these QBs for about a month now and I gotta say.. I think possibly all 6 could have 1st round grades.

I agree with @CATCH17 . He's a first round QB, easy now. Question is top 10 or top 20.

He's got the size scouts drool over, he runs Mullens offense about flawlessly as can be. Putting up gaudy numbers in the SEC and his arm/touch is good.

Yep.. He’s got Drew Breese mechanics in a 6’6 body. He’s got a little mobility too. He’s not a statue by any means but he isn’t some great athlete either.

He might have the best arm talent in this class. Lawrence and he have the same arm talent but I think Trask is just putting more things on display.

He’s just very accurate and he knows when to throw lasers and when to drop it in with touch.
