Are we lucky to have Dallas football on Turkey day?

.... I believe so. Ever since I can remember, Dallas and Turkey have gone hand in hand. Its like a special privilege Dallas fans are accustom to. I've even sensed jealousy from people knowing Dallas plays on Thanky Day. Does anyone remember how this came about? Or when did it start?

....;).... Go Cowboys.. :starspin:

Yes!

Have had the luxury to watch every Dallas Thanksgiving day game...some on VCR later that night or next day thanks to my profession...but still... every one.

Go Cowboys!

Win or lose, Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without my Cowboys playing.

And to think they can get into 1st place with a win makes me even more interested, I don't care about the record at this point.

"The Cowboys started playing on Thanksgiving in 1966. In the first six years after the Cowboys became an NFL franchise in 1960, the team had a combined 25-53-4 record. President and general manager Tex Schramm was hunting for an opportunity to market the team and jumped at the chance to market his team on a national stage with Thanksgiving games.

The Lions did it first. When the Cowboys started playing on the holiday, they joined Detroit, who had been doing it since 1934. Other teams played on Thanksgiving before the Lions started doing so, but Detroit negotiated a deal with NBC to broadcast its games, helping to boost the team’s popularity and make it an annual tradition.

It was a risky venture. Even after a few decades of the Lions playing on Thanksgiving, the NFL wasn’t so convinced another team would be able to sell tickets to a game played on a holiday. The league guaranteed a minimum gate revenue to the Cowboys just in case nobody came to the game. It was a huge success and more than 80,000 fans were in the Cotton Bowl."

I wouldn't call it luck when no other team wanted to. It took some great vision from Tex Schramm. I wouldn't call it lucky I would just be thankful for Tex Schramm.

I became a fan Nov 17th, 1969. That's when I went to my first game in the Cotton Bowl. Payed $1 to sit in the endzone by the tunnel where the players come out. We beat the Saints that day 33-17. I stayed afterwards by the players locker room and got autographs when the players came out. Good times....

This season when we suck, sure, because I can just relax and watch. Normally, no, as I don't like being stressed during Thanksgiving.

Family, Friends, and Football are an American tradition for Thanksgiving.

The only downside is when we lose, which is often, on Thanksgiving that spoils the day.
