What is wrong with tanking?

I'd rather have 12 starters play good and hard and win 5 games then have only 7 or 8 starters play well and win only 2 games.

Moving up a couple spots in the draft isn't worth the trade-off of having a handful less of your players not being viable NFL starters

It was easy for Jimmy to tank. He traded Walker for players that could become draft picks if they didn’t stick with the team. Of course he wanted the draft picks instead of the subpar players , so those players didn’t stick and Jimmy got the draft picks that he wanted.

1. The Walker trade may have been the best trade in the history of the NFL. There is exactly no opportunity for the Cowboys to make trades that come close to resembling the Walker trade.

2. I've outlined in a previous post the success of high draft picks, most notably for QBs. We do not currently have assets to trade that in any way would guarantee better results in the future.

3. I stand by my statement. I don't consider trading away all the team's talent as tanking, just stupid. I consider tanking as putting together a roster that can't win. Unlike in baseball and basketball, that's very hard to do in the NFL.

Yeah actually cheated. Refused to play players for more draft picks. Tainted season. Don’t want to repeat
It was not cheating. He was being smart and looking at the long term success that those draft picks would bring. You have to have talent to win and he knew those players was not worth more than the draft picks.

Quitting is never right....IMO
ask the broncos how getting elway changed the franchise? lets ask the packers how getting favre changed the franchise. lets ask the cowboys how getting aikman changed the franchise. lets ask the Colts how getting Manning changed the franchise. lets ask the chiefs how getting mahomes changed the franchise.

So when a kid, that is being called the best QB prospect since Luck is coming out, whoever gets him..... you can bet they will very quickly move up the ladder very , very fast from cellar dweller, to legit team.

Now, I will admit that I think I have come around to thinking Dak is good enough to be our guy, but I would still have tanked to get that top pick and trade it for a top 5 player plus 2 number 1 picks.

Root for losses if it makes you happy. I can't do it.

There's nothing wrong with tanking if you are already eliminated from the playoffs. But the Cowboys aren't. At only a half-game behind division leader Philadelphia, the Cowboys are very much alive in the playoff chase.

Soo, you're just as happy drafting 28 as drafting 2nd? Same quality of players? You have one very strange way of perceiving this.
And you apparently have such GREAT confidence Dallas is so very adept at the draft...you are willing to sell your soul for it.

Um...we are HERE now because of our crappy draft choices. And you'd add willingly losing as well? Gawd..people....hate em.

I bet Jimmy never lost on purpose. No coach with a sack would do that. Tanking is for the FO and loser fans that have no heart or passion!!!!

You don't lose on purpose. You let your younger players with not much experience play more, if they make a mistake it will help them become a better player, its called strategy: a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim to improve the football team long term.

Higher draft picks in all rounds will give your team better players.

I don't settle for mediocrity.

I root for what is best for the team... and going 5-11, or 6-10 will not be better than 2-14. BUT..... now that we blew it and won last week, now lets just win the damn division and have a playoff game. Thats better than being 4-12.

Winning is always better than losing. Players break bones, tear ligaments, get concussions etc.....you think they ever want to lose, especially knowing that there is a draft pick waiting to take their job?

Let's put it this way. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round. Tony Romo was undrafted. Jason Witten was a 3rd-rounder.

Ryan Leaf? Taken No. 2 overall in the draft, behind only Peyton Manning.

In other words, high draft position is overrated.

And PManning, Rothlisberger, John Elway, Mahomes, Rodgers, Marino, Aikman, and a host of others all went in the 1st. Pointing out a few exceptions is not anywhere near enough to make your declaration.

Thank you for the complement!

The Cowboys just won their first game after losing four in a row, and immediately we’re back to talking playoffs.

Yeah, you read that right. At 3-7, we’re talking playoff odds.

If the other NFC East teams continue to play the way they’ve been playing, there is a chance the Cowboys could still qualify for the playoffs, even with a losing record.

It depends completely on who's available in that year's draft. Sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes it matters a ton. A good example would be Chubb in the 18 draft, or maybe Mack in the 14 draft. Many times there is a huge dropoff just a few spots later.
