Don’t have the players , we’re down to 2 CB’s at one point. He’s handicapped with personnel. Bad DT’s, Bad CB’s , a bad safety.

You guys making excuses for him will eventually learn what most people already know............... he's not a very good DC.

The defense clearly has some talent issues. But you are compounding those issues with Nolan. And what makes all of this worse is that Nolan will likely have an influence on who Jerry/Stephen ultimately decide who gets drafted on defense. We shouldn't want Nolan anywhere near "fixing" this defense.

Yes, Nolan is dealing with some talent issues on defense. Fine. But he makes mistakes that have nothing to do with talent.

Let's start with how he gets conservative when he has a team in a 1st or 2nd and long situation. He seems content to just give up 7-9 yards easily to prevent an opposing team from getting a first down. Today, I believe, we had the Skins in 2nd and 19, and the defense played a really soft zone, they picked up 11 yards and made it a more manageable 3rd down. And this happens weekly.

And his blitz designs are so mundane. I watched LVE blitz, twice I believe, where all he does is just run straight into the heart of the OL. Smith did it as well. Nolan just seems to think throw an extra guy at the OL and someone will break free.

The sad thing is he's going to be here for at least another season or two. And he's going to influence the talent acquisition process as well. People better prepare themselves for a leat two more years of mediocre to bad defense here.
It must be the culture, we would do the exact same things last season with the other coaching staff.

Oh yah, that will make all the difference in the world. These clowns just gave up 21 points and 3 rushing TD's in 90 seconds all up the middle to ice the game.

yes because they are playing with 2 lb they are getting run all over because of it, it as happened all year

what is nolan system

no one where they should be, no one know what to do, bounce off the ball carrier, take the worst angle on every play, give 16 yard cushion to wr...if that is the stuff nolan is teaching them they are doing good!

4 down lineman (one stands or both stand but they still rush)
2 linebackers
5 defensive backs (one plays slot if no slot receiver then he plays up at the LB)

he mixes it up and tries to confuse the offense

its not working

If they play with 3 linebackers, they will just throw it. They just suck buddy. No coach could make this team look good. Jaylon is one of the worst backers I have seen.

I'd say soft coverage against a historic dink and dunk QB.

This. Someone mentioned it in game. This isn't some X's and O's mystery.

This same QB's skillset has not changed. He's a game manager dink and dunk checkdown Charlie.

Without going into too much coach speak, they should have crowded the line of scrimmage with mixed stunts, linebacker and corner blitz packages and dared Smith to beat them deep. All game long.

If Smith chucked it up and beat a blitz or 2 so be it.

That passive, back on your heels prevent zone looking crap looks no better than Marinellis outdated schemes. Throw in the total stupidity of that whack 3-4 hybrid crap with unqualified d linemen trying to cover in space and you get this trash result.

You can't teach a complex defense to scrubs. Especially when one of those scrubs is argurably one of the dumbest players in football

Hmmm....Who taking the label as one of the dumbest players in football?

tried to warn people about Nolan.

Only reason he was hired...he's big buddies with Mike.

And I remember your other more important comment regarding Mike...

"You need to see wins"

Anyway,
I agree with you on both of those imposters.

I guess all that's left is to promote Jerry's second Garrett prodigy...

Kellen Moore to HC would complete Jerry's Master Circus Plan.

Stay tuned, lol

I watch the Cowboys defense its like there are gaping holes in zones and gaping holes for RBs. I watch the Commanders defense and they have 10 guys all within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage and the ball is snapped and they just swarm in at the QB and stuff the RB in the backfield along the way. I hate Nolans defense and though he should be fired after the Rams game.
Three things about playing like them. They have supreme talent on the defensive line that we don't , they are going against scrubs, especially since Martin went out early. And last keep in mind they got beat deep twice (ONE TD , on penalty) which would have possibly been more points later on if Martin was in there protecting the QB.

I'm not a fan of Nolan, but the D has improved. Add to that he is lacking talent in the DB area, the cowboys edge players like peaking inside and don't consistently set the edge. The fan base complains that his blitzes are simple and predictable, yet you have an actual player complaining and asking to simplify the defense. What else is he supposed to do. I like Antuan Woods at NT, but he is no Darron Payne on the other side. DLaw sometimes sets the edge and then sometimes plays hero ball. Wilson is a solid underneath run helping safety but that's it. Xavier Woods can't catch balls that hit him in the hands. And they lack awareness as well. Jaylon did good catching that INT but let's be honest it literally hit him softly in the abdomen. How do you miss that? Watch the replay he was shocked. To his credit he got it and almost ran it in. But these are the players Nolan is working with. Do I like Nolan? No, I prefer Marvin Lewis, but honestly he would have only been slightly better. As in we go from being ranked 24th to 21st. And I only say that cause he runs a pure 4-3 defense.

Oh and also, there were two 4th down calls that were failed on our side of the field, and seek fumbled AGAIN and Dalton decided to play catch with a Lineman on the wrong team. That's how it went from 20-16 to 41-16.

He needs to be let go and play a dame 4-3 defense , get rid of this absurd nickle package all of the time, I can deal with playing 2 lb and getting run all year

This defense looks much improved from earlier this year. More importantly, I see emerging young players. I thought Hill looked significantly better than last year. Gallimore could be starter for long time. Vander Esch looks like pro-bowl player and I thought he was done after that neck injury. Diggs was flashing before his injury. Even Wilson looks like he might be physical force at S. Gregory looks like elite pass rush specialist. What your seeing is team with entirely new coaching staff who didn't have enough time to install their philosophy due to Covid and then hit by unprecedented rash of injuries. Still need to sign two FAs (DT, S) then draft another CB and LB.

All good points but cut the guy some slack, do you realize the players in our secondary would be backups on most teams?

You don’t have anyone who can line can up with a receiver 5 yards off the line of scrimmage so you are reduced to playing soft zones and giving up yardage hoping your D-line can bail you out by pressuring the passer.

The system would work with good players, point is he is here for a couple of years. Start teaching the system now and hope you can fill the holes next year as opposed to scrap everything and start next year.
