His knock at Ohio was his running ability. I've seen him throw for over 500yds in a game. Why such a bad pro? Some one shed some light.

Many will not want to hear this but if you watch his OSU film, you see a kid who throws to easy targets. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say they weren't good or accurate or anything else. I'm saying that if you go to play QB at a school like OSU, you aren't really forced to develop certain skills. You are, more times then not, throwing to the very best WR talent, being protected by the best OL talent, being supported by the best running game and probably playing with a lead because you have the best Defensive talent in the country, most times, rather then playing from behind and that talent goes three deep. You don't learn to throw into tight windows or make quick reads. You get away with mistakes you wouldn't be able to if you played at a school who wasn't as talented.

You kinda see the same thing at Alabama. That's my take on it.

Wowzers.

There must have been a lot going on behind the scenes with Haskins in terms of maturity and responsibility that I imagine we’ll start hearing about.

He had his captaincy removed and had multiple issues. The last two were the party at the strip club, and missing a play at the end of a game because he was taking a selfie with a fan...while the game was still being played.

Pre game report was there was talk of cutting him after the party incident but they kept him, then he bombs Sunday vs Carolina and pretty much cemented the deal that he would be released.

I get both arguments
But he needed to grow as a player so I think as a player staying another year would have greatly benefited him
But it wasn’t like he would have been picked any higher by staying and financially I would have came out myself
I don’t blame a player for coming out even if he’s not a top 20 player. You could get injured, have a bad season or any number of things
But strictly as a player he could have benefitted by staying, assuming he used that time to improve his game. it appears that wouldn’t have been the case with him though
Of course he would have been the better player. He also would have been the better player had gruden and rivera not totally derailed him. The kid had great momentum coming into this season. He had elite numbers in the final 4 games of last year. Rivera comes to town brings in kyle allen to pretty much take the job all the while telling everyone he doesn't believe in Haskins.

you guys are missing the point badly....regardless of whether Heinke would start or not, the football team needs at least 2 qb's on its roster on game day....IF smith was potentially a no go, there is no way they would release Haskins and chance having to grab a qb off the street as the backup....

It's possible Smith will be healthy enough to back-up but not start

I agree with your point in general...definitely take that pay day while its there....

But in his case, maybe with another year in school he ends up elsewhere and is still employed today.
It's a guaranteed contract he's still getting paid without going to work lol.

This is spot on. You would have hoped his first 2 coaches would have supported him and got behind him to help him but instead they went out of their way to not support him.

Vet min + incentives!!’

I know he’s not a vet. Just making a joke :)
Someone on this board will be pissed if we don’t pick him up. A Dak hater will say with our offense, Haskins would be just as good as Prescott at a cheaper rate.

It wasn't a strip club.

I would actually really like if we signed him as a backup behind dak. Dalton is gone after this year.

14 million for 16 games
Not a bad gig
But for a team to eat that much cap space with the cap projected to drop means there may be more to this story than just bad play

They saw good accuracy, 50tds, 6 ints, non mobile qb which game translates pretty well to the nfl. He needed work on the mental parts of the game. You can't do that when your first 2 coaches don't even want you on the team.

No. I watched him at OSU. The numbers are a product of the talent around him. He was never that good, in terms of his ability to translate his game into the Pros. He had easy offense, tons of talent and virtually every advantage. In the NFL, you never see that kind of talent disparity. QBs have to be the difference makers in the NFL and I never saw that guy in Haskins. Blame the coaches all you want but that wasn't the problem. The problem was, IMO, that he was never ready to be an NFL QB. Not mentally, not physically IMO.

Yeh rivera didn't want him before he ever even met him. Hence him bringing in kyle allen from carolina immediately. Then coming out and saying he isn't fully backing haskins at qb. If you live in the corporate world that means I brought this guy here to take your job and will do what I can to make it happen.
