That team won 4 games before Dak got here. Surely wasn’t that good.

Your comment proves you weren't watching back then. That offense was killer and the defense while not the best, was good enough to hold a team under 24 points. The problem was when The Cowboys got to the second time around against the NFC East (and you can go back and look) #4 got his arse handed to him. Same in the one playoff game the team played. Yes, they played some good ball AFTER spotting Green Bay some points thanks to your favorite player. I will also say, if you go back and look at the game, they still had some chances late in that game to win but, well, we will just leave it alone......

You are full of ****....Dak played well enough to win that Packers game especially for a rookie. Dak took over for a team that won 4 games I don't care how well they played in 2016 that was not some juggernaut. Dak and ZEke were a big reason they won those games and the offensive line. Saying otherwise proves YOU weren't watching back then.

Its crazy though.....Romo got paid TWICE...no questions asked despite his lack of playoff appearances or success......now the bar is Dak has to get there 3 out of 4 times.......wow.

Why do some forget how Romo was treated? It was never no questions asked with Romo. Plenty didn't want to see him get paid. Some of the same talking heads that were dissing Dak were saying Romo couldn't win big games, etc.

Yes he did make questionable calls causing me to question him as my 1st choice after Rivera was off the market.

However, I am dismissing this entire season for new coaches because there's never been another like it for the lack of prep.

One thing I do fault McC for. He rehired Moore because he wanted some continuity with his offense and that made a lot of sense but then hires Nolan and allows him to install a new defense on the weakest part of the team. It's not like Nolan had this impressive track record, he couldn't even get a DC job in his two previous jobs.

I do not like the Joneses hiring coaches but in this case, they should. McC has forfeited that privilege. The next DC has his work cut out for him because he's got to instill confidence in his D. I don't care what kind of false bravado these players exhibit, they know they were the worst D in Cowboys history. The road back will be difficult and take more time than one year.

In his defense, Moore called plays for one of the top offenses in the league the previous year. The defense sucked in 2019. On offense, McCarthy just needed to add touches to what Moore was doing. On defense, we needed a revamp ... and we still do.

I’m talking about Jerry and Stephen. There was never any fight to get Romo paid.

There were several incentives to sign Romo in 2012, including length of the extension and the fact that it lowered his cap hit that year. When Romo signed his first six-year deal in 2008, it was a bargain ($67 million over six years).

So you could say the Joneses weren't quite sold on Romo the first time he came up for a new deal, but by the second, they were all in.

I think it's been similar with Dak in that the Joneses weren't quite ready to commit big money to him when they could have extended him, and now they can't get him to agree to a long-enough offer.

Ehh I disagree. Even that 68 million at the time was a lot. Sure it ended up working out since he ended up being good but it was still a deal he couldn’t refuse....

Fair enough. Looking back at deals at that time, there were certainly some larger ones, but I noticed that Aaron Rodgers signed for six years, $63 million in 2009. Now, Rodgers had only completed his first season as a starter, while Romo had essentially been starting for a year and half when he got his new deal, but their situations were pretty close to the same.

I still believe if Romo had tried to go for a shorter length on either deal, the negotiations would have been more difficult. It's a lot easier to redo and extend a longer deal for a player who is playing well than to have to try to finagle a shorter deal with the cap. In Romo's case, his first six-year deal turned into a four-year deal since Dallas worked out an extension that allowed the team to lower his cap hit for those final two years.

I think Dak needs to accept a five-year deal and Dallas needs to make that fifth year impossible for it to handle without doing an extension. But it's possible he wants a four-year deal that essentially works the same way. It's tougher to move money around if needed with shorter deals.

Yep...Dak Haters are easy to expose.

@CATCH17 has been sour since Dak took QB1. His post history is a case study in Romo derangement sydrome
@CATCH17 just has that rare fan ability that can actually recognize.
There are a few fans left, but the numbers are dwindling annually.

Judging QBs by wins is stupid. Team game.

Dak want's 20% of the cap. Romo got paid less than 15%. Dak *should* be held to a higher stand of *play* to get 20%.

I don't know if I buy this. Most reports last summer was that Dak was ready to sign the 35 million per deal. That was back when the cap was north of 200 million. In order for 35 million to be 20% the cap would have to drop to 175 million. I don't see that happening.. I have heard conflicting reports on where the cap will land but I have not seen any projections that low. Have you? The 20% declaration also ignores the cap hit mitigation available through proper structuring of the deal. If they structure it properly and set next year's cap number at 20 million then his cap hit will be well under 15% and will remain so probably for at least the first two years of the deal. And could remain so throughout if the cap jumps as expected in 2022 with the new TV and streaming deals.

If Romo was playing in 2020 he too would’ve got paid 20%...quit using his outdated contract to compare and contrast what Dak should get. Dak wanting 20% of the cap is a complete myth at this point.

Yeah the oft repeated fallacy that "Dak wants 20% of the cap" won't go away for some reason. There is every reason to believe the Covid effect will be a one year thing. Once the vaccine has been proliferated stadiums will be full revenues will return to normal and the new TV deals will feature dollar amount that will make your head swim because the networks will be bidding against the streaming services. The cap could hit 300 before Dak's contract runs out at with point even 40 million a year will be a bargain. That's what Dak's agent was fighting for. He knows the new TV deals are going to bump the cap into the stratosphere and he wanted Dak to be able to come back to the negotiating table right when it happens. It's a selfish move but it's business so I get it. But Dak needs to realize that it's not in his best interest to do it this way.. Screwing the team on the cap means playing on crappier teams for the rest of his career. If the team falls flat on its face more often than not then at the end of the deal his value will go down not up. So his next contract when he's 31 will be at a lower number relative to the market than this one. But if he helps with the cap and signs a long term deal he helps the team get/stay good and when he's negotiating at 32 he's got 6-7 playoff wins under his belt and maybe a Super Bowl. What's his price going to look like then? 50 million a year?

you know the cap goes up every year, so that percentage will drop......

and that's what today's QB market is....Mahomes got a 10 year 500 M contract...he is 25% of their cap? or is he?

Jerrah pushed Dak under the bus. He basically says he is going to pay Dak top dollar but the Cowboys will not sign any free agents because Dak will get all the money. The Joneses are trying to pressure Dak into taking a home town discount by telling the fan base if they pay Dak no money will be left over for free agency.
Dak better not take a discount. Jerry needs to do his job better
