I'm disposed to thinking Big Mike will be somewhat on a short leash, although, unsure as to just how short it's likely to be. I think he'll get this year and perhaps another, to prove how adept or else, ineffective he'll actually be. I see the upcoming season to be a bit more advantageous than last year was, although, that remains to yet be tested. Hopefully, decent progress will be achieved, without expecting anything too "Super" to be in store. Let's say a division championship would surely be seen as significant progress. Anything more should rightly be seen as altogether magnificent.

OTOH, anything less than a winning season could possibly be something pretty tough for MM to withstand.

Jones and Jones replaced McCarthy's entire defensive coaching staff.
No playoffs - plus two or three games where the HC in-game decision making results in losses....he's gone after two seasons... ala Chan Gailey two decades ago.

I look at the coaching hires made with other teams and i have to see equivalent results.I think JJ believes he has a HC in his hip pocket [ Kellen Moore] but I get paranoid flashes of Garrett. Kellen is a good strategist is he a leader I dont know. Back to the question ,MM is on a short lease with me. Garret used up all my patience.

I'm not a big McCarthy fan, but McCarthy got a free pass for this season because of how strange and difficult it was for a new coach to come in and get his schemes installed with no off season programs or preseason games. It's like this season didn't exist, so if in 2021 and the Cowboys don't win the division but have a better record than this season I very seriously doubt that Jones will fire McCarthy. Even if they have the same record, how often has Jones fired a head coach after just two seasons?
