First Wentz, now Goff.......just confirms picking a QB top 5 of draft guarantees nothing. Some of us forget the REAL evaluation of these players starts AFTER three years. Teams try and surround them with the best talent but at the end of the day, they are judged on wins and losses and their ceiling.

There is some speculation here that Darnold may end up with the Rams in the off-season. He played at USC and could come in and compete against Goff right away.

not to get into a "when I was young sonny" type comment, but really teams were so much more patient. It seemed every team had a qb in the 70s and that was that, even guys like Pastorini, Jim Hart, Bartkowski, Archie Manning, Roman Gabriel, Bert Jones and so many more all had long runs with their teams without getting to super bowls. It's a different era nowadays, just keep flipping the position over until you get lucky with one.

Seems I heard Dak has to have talent around him and now the same is being said for Wentz? lol Fact is all QB need talent around them to have great success.

The hilarious thing is the don't pay Dak crew acknowledges that.

We're all in agreement that we need a great team to win with Dak.

Where we disagree is when you think we can sign Dak to a elite QB contract, limit our resources, and build a championship team.

We already have bad deals on the books. Dak will be another guy that can't perform to that deal.

All while you believe we will skip free agency and draft perfect.. Well the pay Dak crowd has a lot more faith in the Jones's than I.

Without meaning to be too harsh, I came away from Hard Knocks with the impression that Goff is one of the most intellectually challenged players in the league. That won't get you a long career as an NFL QB. I was surprised he had such a great year to start, but haven't been surprised since.

He didn’t even know the sun sets in the west. Maybe that is par for the course in college graduates these days though.

We need players outside of QB to win, guess what Patrick Mahomes needs talent around him to win and he has a boat load and it is on both sides of the ball. Dak has some very good players on offense where we lack and have lacked is a quality defense. Even dating back with Romo which is why his playoff records are not great. I would think the don't pay dak crowd has even more faith in Jerry to be able to go out and get a QB and still have to put talent around them on both sides of the ball. I have no doubt Dak is capable of leading this team but what Dak can't do is play defense

Dak's not gonna have a great defense.. Sorry..

He's going to have WR's, aging OL, and paid RB, Lawrence, Jaylon, and some rookies as the annual upgrade.

Dallas is trending down. Luckily our division sucks.

I'd rather find a new QB on a rookie deal and continue to build the entire team and not go all in on the QB and think he is going to carry the team because as I guess you know he can't play defense.

Hopefully Jerry and Stephen realize no one, and I mean no one, is paying Dak big money (over $25M) next year. Those two are bidding against themselves. No team is risking huge money on a QB who can’t pass a physical until after the draft. No team is risking a long term contract with $100M guaranteed on a QB who can’t pass a physical. There is no exit strategy with a backloaded contract. Especially when the cap drops to $180M.

Let Dak hit the free market. Let Dak come back with his best offer. Jerry can match or not.

You want a rookie QB to build what you said they can't build to begin with. Sorry I don't share your fatalistic views. Meanwhile guys like Staubach and Aikman seem to think much different than you and pardon me if I take their views on talent greater than yours or other message board posters who have never done anything at that level. You may think they are trending down, I don't sorry

Rams easily moved on from Gurley and his grossly overpaid contract. He has a degenerative knee and will never be the back he was.

Same thing with Goff. Even though not injured, he plain stinks.

Supply and demand. Another QB available lowers the price. Goff or Stafford at $20M or Dak, who may not even be able to pass a physical, at $35M? What do you think teams will do? Depends also on how much the Rams and Lions want for the QBs in a trade.

I had that feeling too. Remember when he was asked where does the sun set and he didn't know? My 9 year old would answer that in 2 seconds flat. That lack of basic intellect surely impacts a position such a QB where understanding / retaining / judging info and data matter. McVay basically QBd the team in Goff's headset from the day he became HC.

Goff just doesn’t have an NFL QB mind. He cannot read defenses. McVay does everything for him.

I'm personally hedging my bets that Jerry doesn't draft QBs very well at all. He got lucky with the two that we've had between Dak and Romo. If we don't trust Jerry to draft perfectly, then why should we trust Jerry to draft Dak's successor perfectly? Especially when Dak is a perfectly acceptable franchise QB and has proven to be so.

It’s crazy to me.

Goff went to the super bowl

Wentz owned his second year

now this
It’s a what have you done for me lately league now. It’s amazing the drop off. Rams did go to playoffs but they clearly don’t see him as someone go get them over the hump and help out their defense

Because signing Dak to that deal is for sure going to make us non-title contenders for awhile.

I'd rather risk being great and end up being bad than signing ourselves into mediocrity.

On a bad call. Just like Wentzie has a ring for not even playing. Cowboys got the best quarterback in that 2016 draft. BOOM!

This entirely. I think everyone that took a QB that draft not named Dak is wishing that they had taken Dak at this point. And we have fans trying to run him out of town?

After hearing the way Les Snead answered a question on Goff yesterday, made this VERY apparent. Snead replied that Goff is on the team..."right now." Ouch!
