It makes sense why Jerry is dead set on keeping Dak now

Because Jerry and Stephen want to keep the Lion share of the New Broadcasting rights revenue sharing $$$$ checks.

it’s all about 2022

Keep in mind that the Rams will be picking at the bottom of the draft. Those two 1s aren’t as valuable as they sound unless packaged to move up or if a team already has a qb.
Not necessarily. The Rams will most likely be pretty good, but crap happens. Injuries, bad chemistry, or just plain old bad luck. Plus, they play in the best division in the NFL.

So why does he keep kicking the contract can down the road while price for QBs ascends into rarified air?
because there is a big suspicion that Dak is actually a system QB , who collected stats behind the best OL WR RB combo in the NFL , but fails consistantly when faced with good defenses or when some peices are missing. He is probably the only QB in the NFL who is claiming higher value after starting 1-4 then getting injured all season. On the surface he looks like a top QB , but given more challenges , dak will revert to being a top 14-12 QB at best in the NFL.

I think we'll keep Dak and keep drafting QB's to compete, he#'s our best man so far.

Scouts, coaches and leaders of player personnel would pick up on this by 3rd year in. So you are saying the Cowboys hung on to a player they are not sure of for 5 years and paid him under the franchise tag instead of cutting bait and trading him when there was definitely a market for the player?

I want to know what the alternative is to Dak and why is the team I have rooted for all my life (50+ years) such a complete %^$# show. I already know the 2nd half of the question.

In normal situations you would be absolutely right . But it is Jerry world .
He picked Dak
He thought Dak will take 20-25 mil
He saw that Dak was becoming a media darling and that the losses were on Garrett
Jerry fired Garrett
Jerry thought the RB WR OL combo will take the team to the super bowl with a new coach who has a SB
2020 happened and COVID and injuries and bad defensive coach are the new excuses

do you notice a trend and how Dak’s actual talent and ability is shoved under the carpet every time the team loses ?
There is no real evaluation or accountability, it is all Jerry’s mood and ego and how he feels about a player . Examples of overpaying under performing stars are plenty : T.O, DEz , Zeke and now it is time for Dak . And once he gets his guaranteed big 40 mil a year contract , watch him slide and descend further . Dak has descended since 2016 but no one wants to see it . Remember in 2018 how Jerry had to spend a first rounder on Cooper when Dak tanked at home and was exposed against Tennessee and the Colts.

Stafford is a middling quarterback with a PFF focus grade of 15 entire spots lower than Dak Prescott as a quarterback. And a laughable passer rating double digits below too.

Considering NFL executives consensually rank Dak as a top 5 quarterback in the league Jerry has probably had several teams inquire about trade talks.:omg:
Dak is a system QB with great offensive talent around him. Stafford is a much better QB thank Dak, its not even a discussion.
No one in their right mind will trade you three number 1's. Watson is a franchise guy.
Dak is a good player and there is nothing wrong with that.

I say we build a defense first then worry about a franchise QB. Do it the old Parcells way.
All coaches need luck.......
Parcels was lucky to have LT, just like Jimmy was lucky to find a sucker like Minnesota to trade with. They were both lucky not to have a salary cap either.
Nowadays, it still takes luck, but you need a create numbers guy to manage the cap. That's what is hurting our Defense, too much money on offense and not enough on defense.

In 2019 Dak was ranked 11th in QB power index rankings see here https://www.nfl.com/news/qb-index-ranking-every-quarterback-to-start-a-game-in-2019-0ap3000001101720 . I don't know of any NFL executives that would rank Dak in the top ten. Dak needs too much around him to be successful. In 2016 his best ranking year, He had a top ten OL a top ten run game a recieving core in the top half and a defense in the top half of the league. Dak is not a top five QB. He will cripple our cap and prevent us from putting the players around him that he needs to be successful. Its time to move on from Dak Prescott.

very accurate asessment. It is crazy how so much of the Dak hype is politically correct based , and the focus of the praise for him is his leadership bla bla . It is bewildering how many miss the fact Dak's record is atrocious in important games and how lucky he has been surrounded by that offensive talent. His contract if signed will cripple this team .

Yeah, that's not even kinda relevant. Contractually, teams have to spend a specific percentage on players salaries. There is not grey area there. That's part of the CBA.

JJ will sign Dak this week and make a big “splash” announcement to steal the Super Bowl limelight. Not going to “Gorico Quadruple Platinum Gurantee “ it or anything... but, I would not be surprised at all if it happens lol
To paraphrase Linda Ronsdat ..if that happens..."That'll be the day, when I say goodbye..That'll be the day...when the team dies."

Good take. Dak is not elite who can carry this team with less talent. They pay him their fate is sealed to stay average at best.
