Dallas Cowboys: What to do about Jaylon Smith

we need 2 LBs

gotta go into the season assuming that Jaclyn will be on the sideline and LVE may or may not be healthy. The only reason I think LVE plays well this year is because his contract is almost up for renewal and he knows it
I hear ya, but I'd be shocked if they signed or drafted (1st-3rd) a 1 LB capable of threatening these incumbent LBs. I'd like them to sign a LB then draft another.

Best thing I can say about #54 is with the hiring of Dan Quinn hopefully Jaylon can be placed in more favorable positions to be effective.

In a new defensive scheme, he will be re-assigned responsibility and should find himself out of position less.

Oh look, another Cowboys Zoner who can't have an intelligent conversation on topic so they switch the discussion to, I guess some kind of weird name calling, idk. Yall are a bunch of walking, talking, Dunning-Kruger graphs as far as football or business strategy is concerned.

Fine, cut Jaylon and everyone else that isn't an all pro. Im sure that'll fix everything.

Yep, you definitely whimpered.

They’re not blind, he has one year to prove his worth and ball out. If he fails to do so they'll cut him. There’s no way they’re that dumb.

Really have no idea why you peddle this tackle argument. It’s literally the easiest argument for Jaylon to debunk. A tackle doesn’t hold weight if it’s made 10 yards downfield. From Rotoworld:

“While Smith racked up a career-high 154 tackles over 16 games in 2020 to lead the Cowboys, adding five passes defended, two fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks and an INT, he was frequently out of position and made too many of those tackles downfield rather than near the line of scrimmage.”

Bob Sturm in the Athletic illustrated it as well.

because he makes a lot of tackles.

a lot.

more than anyone else on the team.

thats what they pay him to do.

make tackles.

I think tackles are a bit overrated as a stat but I also agree with you, at the end of the day someone either tackles the ball carrier or the ball carrier scores and one way or another Jaylon tackles the ball carrier a lot, 3rd most in league last year.

Not necessarily his fault if the "analytic" says the tackle is made downfield more often than not. The DL in front of him fails more often than not so yeah

I'm not sure FO sees Jaylon as anywhere near the problem fans see/media see. I mean we've seen nothing from coaches/Jerry to suggest his starting position is in jeopardy. Not to mention, name the last player Jerry paid not to play. In other words, good or bad, he will start as they're paying him starting pay,

FRISCO, Texas – As always, this is the uncertain time of the year.

Roughly one-third of NFL rosters turn over every offseason as each club looks for ways to improve its fortunes moving forward. The Cowboys are no different, as they'll face many tough decisions in the coming months.

With that in mind, we're evaluating each position on the roster and what choices face the front office in 2021. Part 4 focuses on the linebackers.

All that lad needs is a brain and he will excel!

Let's be honest.
It made both of their careers because they were crap Olympians that weren't going to come close to medaling.

Feel bad for the physical and emotional pain for Nancy though.
Except that Kerrigan did get the silver.

They just don't like Jaylon, they don't have a plan, and if you point that out then they'll call you a poop head or something else elementary.

Just typical fans, we had a bad year so they wanna cut and fire everyone.

First thing I would do is move LVE into his true position once the
amateur bowler is gone. Then, I would evaluate LVE at the position he
was drafted to play.

Second, I would consider Lee as a position coach. Or possibly keep him
one more year at his very team friendly salary.

Third, i'd strongly consider drafting a LB somewhere in the first three rounds.

I guess these guys don't get their own thread discussion because they didn't claim
to be elite.

Jeez I wonder if that is the problem. This front office is lazy they think the guys they have are the best. In fact when was the last time these guys were challenged in training camp or even during the season? Where is the incentive to perform?
