Upgrades over Jarwin/Schultz?

Who would you like to see starting at TE when the season opens in September?

I know that some here really like Jarwin and Schultz, but the reality is that Jarwin is coming off a serious knee injury and Schultz, while serviceable, will never be an All-Pro.

I believe that Dallas needs to upgrade the TE position this offseason and frankly there hasn’t been a better crop, not just in the draft but in free agency, for as long as I can remember.

Any of these players would be an upgrade. Which one do you like? I’m listing them in my order of preference.

Zack Ertz: (likely to be released or trade)
We know that good tight ends routinely play into their late 30’s and you don’t go from breaking Witten’s single season catch record to a stiff overnight. Suffered from poor QB play but I think he’d shine in Dallas.

Kyle Pitts: (draft)
I know people either love or hate this player but he’s 6’6, blocks like a tight end but runs like a receiver. He has great hands and speed too. Someone needs to help me with the hate; this guy could be the league’s next great tight end. Is it just the idea of picking one so high?

Jonnu Smith: (free agent)
Let’s see if he makes it to free agency but Jonnu Smith had a great year last year even though his stats don’t reflect it. He’s more like a wide receiver and has speed but he can block too. I think if you put Jonnu in Dallas he is a monster tight end and catches 10 touchdowns.

Hunter Henry: (free agent)
Make a lot of cash last season on the franchise tag but then didn’t produce that well. But he has the physical talent and I think suffered under lack of innovation.

Here are some other notables: Trey Burton (Mr. Philly Special), Tyler Eifert, Jake Butt, Pat Freiermuth (has never dropped a pass in the red zone)

We don't have the resources to spend to upgrade tight end. Too many real problem areas to manufacture one. Could we get better? Sure, but we don't absolutely need to while there are several areas where we absolutely need to get better.

Schultz proved he can be a lot in one year of action. Jarwin had a 3 TD game against the Gents a couple of years ago and can kill the seams. That’s all we’ve seen from him. It’s Schultz job currently IMO. Money probably says otherwise with our brass however......

I'm not sure what you want out of a tight end? Shultz is a natural blocker, and has gotten better with limited snaps. Now he's showing that he can also get open, and make plays. Dallas doesn't need a TE that burns defenses with 3 1,000 capable WR's, and two RB's that can catch. We just need a defense that doesn't give up 30 in a half to good opposing offenses. TE is on the bottom of my concern list for sure.

Pitts is elite and a game changer. A hybrid TE/WR. A matchup nightmare.
And this is a weak defensive draft class.
Get elite talent when you can.

Draft defensive heavy in the other rounds and sign some key defensive free agents

This is the best way to go.

That being said.
Don't be shocked when the Eagles take Pitts with the 6th pick.

Sure, the Eagles need another TE,,, dont be surprised when the eagles draft another QB.
The eagles will make bank with the 6, just watch.

Is it just me or does Schultz remind you of Witten with the hip adjustment to the passer, just like Witten used to pause and turn,,, I dont know if this is a good enough explanation of what I see when I watch Schultz turn and catch.
Do you see this similarity?

Pitts would turn some FG's into TD's. That alone would swing a couple games. Like you said, you take the elite talent.

With three picks on day 2 as well as two 4's, we still have ample quality picks this year to add quality talent if we were to draft a Pitts/Slater/Darrisaw/Sewell in the 1st

I would understand not taking Pitts if there was an elite defensive player at 10.
Unfortunately there is none in this draft class.
I would gladly take a blue chip DT if there was one.But if there was one he wouldn't drop to 10 anyway.
