Upgrades over Jarwin/Schultz?

Who would you like to see starting at TE when the season opens in September?

Is it just me or does Schultz remind you of Witten with the hip adjustment to the passer, just like Witten used to pause and turn,,, I dont know if this is a good enough explanation of what I see when I watch Schultz turn and catch.
Do you see this similarity?

Probably not by accident. A smart tight end is going to pick up everything he can from watching Witten in practice every day.

I saw a lot of similarities even when drafting him. I touted him being a great pick whilst being chastised by some on this forum for it. He's not Witten status yet, but he certainly gives you some of those play qualities. If he stays healthy, he'll only get better.

This team has bigger fish to fry...
TE position should be very low priority entering FA and draft.
Precisely. Why waste draft capital on a position that is good? How much better will the draft even improve said position? Maybe a couple hundred yards? A couple of Tds? Is that really worth a 10th overall pick? nah. Safety, CB, DL... unless there is a stud Oline guy sitting there at 10.

Is it me, or did almost all great TEs to play this game have an amazing QB throwing to them? To quote AC/DC... Who Made Who?

I know that some here really like Jarwin and Schultz, but the reality is that Jarwin is coming off a serious knee injury and Schultz, while serviceable, will never be an All-Pro.

I believe that Dallas needs to upgrade the TE position this offseason and frankly there hasn’t been a better crop, not just in the draft but in free agency, for as long as I can remember.

Any of these players would be an upgrade. Which one do you like? I’m listing them in my order of preference.

Zack Ertz: (likely to be released or trade)
We know that good tight ends routinely play into their late 30’s and you don’t go from breaking Witten’s single season catch record to a stiff overnight. Suffered from poor QB play but I think he’d shine in Dallas.

Kyle Pitts: (draft)
I know people either love or hate this player but he’s 6’6, blocks like a tight end but runs like a receiver. He has great hands and speed too. Someone needs to help me with the hate; this guy could be the league’s next great tight end. Is it just the idea of picking one so high?

Jonnu Smith: (free agent)
Let’s see if he makes it to free agency but Jonnu Smith had a great year last year even though his stats don’t reflect it. He’s more like a wide receiver and has speed but he can block too. I think if you put Jonnu in Dallas he is a monster tight end and catches 10 touchdowns.

Hunter Henry: (free agent)
Make a lot of cash last season on the franchise tag but then didn’t produce that well. But he has the physical talent and I think suffered under lack of innovation.

Here are some other notables: Trey Burton (Mr. Philly Special), Tyler Eifert, Jake Butt, Pat Freiermuth (has never dropped a pass in the red zone)

Hate? I have seen zero hate for Pitts.

Drafting a TE in the first w/ our horrific D would be stupid beyond stupid.

Don't need to upgrade this position which is actually a position of strength on this team......Need guys to push the pocket and protect it, end of story.

A combination of Schultz and Jarwin is more than sufficient. Both are starting quality. They’re not All Pros, but they’re good. We have to focus on the defense and maybe a bit on the OL. We have plenty of pass catchers.

take the best player at 10, no matter what position it is

If it is a TE, do it. The cowboys will not be drafting at 10 next year. There are good players in the 2nd and 3rd that will help the defense.

Who would you "like" to see.. Ertz

Only replacement to Witten I used to go for, sucks he played for Philly. Not exactly a focus position though.

Wish Dak would do something

Draft Kyle Pitts, then line them three wide on the field and watch defenses crumble in terror. Cooper, Gallup and Lamb can just earn their money as gunners on special teams.

For a team that has so many other holes and needs to direct finances elsewhere - TE is the least of my worries. This team has offensive weapons and Schultz was a fringe pro bowl level tight end this season.

I just don't see upgrading the offensive passing game until they have addressed some real weaknesses in the defensive interior plus help for the O-line.

Targeting a TE at this point is poor prioritizing in my opinion.
Agree, with our top 3 WR's in the line up, a TE isn't going to catch more than 3-4 balls a game anyway. And we have Pollard and Zeke for the short passes. Jmo

Complete and utter nonsense. You will never get better continuously drafting positions of strength.

As their pass rushers sack the QB unhindered and the D can't stop a HS team.

Seriously, where in the world do you guys get these silly ideas from?

I would would like a strong .defense, but if they don't trade back, you take the best player. It is unfortunate that the draft is not strong in the top 10 on defense. If a Lb'er or corner is the best pick then take it.

Whatever they take, no matter the position, it has to be a winner at 10

If you look at the roster, in the next few years, you are hoping for a top 3 offense, and the defense to improve to around 15th in the league.

The defense needs to implement a system, draft, and develop. Money is on the offense. A mid of the pack offense, and mid of the pack defense is not a good combo

Pitts would turn some FG's into TD's. That alone would swing a couple games. Like you said, you take the elite talent.

With three picks on day 2 as well as two 4's, we still have ample quality picks this year to add quality talent if we were to draft a Pitts/Slater/Darrisaw/Sewell in the 1st

Saw one mock draft having us taking K. Pitts but most have him going to the gnats.

Pitts is elite and a game changer. A hybrid TE/WR. A matchup nightmare.

A big, tall, slow WR. A couple of models up from Gavin Escobar.

There are always these tweener TE/WR that are supposed to be "matchup nightmares". Carolina had one maybe tens years ago, and he had speed too. Never amounted to much.

A possession WR who's going to require precise ball placement. That's not Dak's strong suit.

I expect that the right QB could make a lot out of him, but the 50-50 guys aren't the ideal anymore when speed and rule changes are giving QBs 70% completion rates.
