Jaylon saves you nothing this year. His cap savings is only around $500K for 2021. You could make him a post June 1 cut, which would save you around $7MM but that money isn't on the cap until after June 1 and you'd then be on the hook for a $7MM dead cap hit in 2022.
Clubs can designate up to two players as post June 1 cuts and realize the cap savings at the beginning of the league year. If they were to designate Jaylon, the $7mm savings would be available at the beginning of free agency. If course, there would still be dead money deferred to next league year.

Right...Keep on dreaming or maybe smoking!!! Been 25 years and nothing Jerry has tried to fix he has.
Well you’re a simple minded mouth breather. Let’s start the education, 1+1=2 , 2+2=4 now what does 3+3 = ?

I'd love to hear that explanation.

What was the Cowboys rating? 23rd overall, 23rd in pts allowed per game, 31st in rush yards per game. 11tth in pass yards per game, but who needs to pass on the Cowboys when they can run the ball so easily?

Just by sheer numbers, at 23rd that means there are only 9 teams that were worse, lots more room to move up...

A lot of the cap space from this past year was from restructures in August and September.
Tyron Smith, Zach Martin and Demarcus Lawrence were the guys restructured right before the season started.
7.1mil from Smith, 7.9mil from Martin and 12mil from DLaw were created with those moves.
Also, Frederick held off on retirement till June 1st allowing the team to spread out his dead cap over two years.

So, the majority, if not all the cap space we rolled over was done past June 1st, long after Free agency started.

*And was done purely to have more breathing room for 2021 with the potential cap squeeze
Good point on when the deals were done but it still proves that they COULD have been done earlier if the front office wanted to. They. Could always make cap space to sign whoever they want. The idea that they have pushed out that they don't have the space is not true. Now I don't advocate for spending huge amounts of money on multiple free agents every offseason but they need to supplement their roster with one or two top Free agents from time to time and they have the ability to do so.

I don't believe that's accurate. The June 1 designation doesn't create cap space until June 1.

A player can be cut as soon as the new league year begins in March and still be designated a June 1 cut, thus saving some cap space in the current year while pushing some of the hit into the following year. Teams are limited to the early (pre-June 1) designation of no more than two players per year as June 1 cuts. This is done to accommodate players who would prefer to be available in free agency immediately rather than wait until June 1 when many teams are close to out of funds for free agency. However, no matter when a player is cut, whether before or after June 1, if he is designated a June 1 cut the team cutting him does not realize any cap savings until after June 1. So a player cut in March but designated a June 1 cut remains on the books of the team cutting him for salary cap purposes even though he is free to sign with any other team immediately.

The urgency is to get some team to give you top picks for Dak before the draft. Most cost effective strategy Jerry could take. No way we are competing for a SB anytime soon with our defense.
Oh yah, and getting rid of dak will make us good real fast. :muttley:

No. If you are looking at Over the Cap and it shows over $19 million in cap space, that includes their estimate of the rollover. Spotrac shows us with $27 million in cap space and that's also with the rollover added in. One difference is Spotrac is using $185 million as the NFL hard cap and Over the Cap is using $180.5 million.

So it's not clear how much space we have, it's probably somewhere between $19 and $27 million but those numbers INCLUDE the $25 million in rollover dollars. Dak alone will eat that up + some.

The only way we get cap space to remake the D, for example, is restructure more contracts which likely will include Elliott which would be stupid IMO.
In a year we dump jaylon and zeke. There’s 27 million in cap space. Plenty.

Proud company at those numbers. Executive of the year numbers if you ask me.

So looks like the worst teams in the league had the most carryover for the most part...

You can fix it and make it top 15 easily in 1 offseason. Even higher.
Yes this could be done with better coaching and hitting on a majority of draft picks. I don't have much faith in Hill but Gallimore could come on next year and if we hit on 2 or 3 serviceable defensive lineman then we will see improvement.

It's asking a lot from our scouts and drafting but it can be done. I also think Quinn will be better here than at Atlanta. JMO but I think he'll perform better here. And there's no way he could be as bad as Nolan.

That changes things. If they get Dak under contract we will have money to improve our team. There needs to be some urgency to get this contract done by both sides. Both the Cowboys organization and Dak want a long term deal in Dallas. Let’s get the deal done by the start of free agency.

Improve ? WIth what money ?

You'll have around 5 mils after you signed Dak. Minus the new rookies you'll have to sign that leaves you with around 2-3 mils.

Look at the list of 25 free agents we have. You have to fill in those wholes first before starting to improve. You dont even have a full roster and you are at the cap limit already.

Hill was supposedly doing really well before his injury so theres still a chance with him.

You only get to the dance with a young QB on a 1st contract or an old, aging QB willing to play for less. You can't build a great team by paying out half your cap to one player. Duh!

Says who? You?

Brady was paid 30 million this year. And you think 5 million extra won them the Super Bowl? Lol

Dak was paid 1 million a year for 4 years. Why didn’t we win a sb?

your laughable theory has holes.

Honestly were better off with Dak. If and when he signs it'll be maybe a 20 mil cap hit so factor that in with the draft and a bunch of really good guys taking 1 year rental deals we will be in good shape

They need to get him signed where they can backload it some and probably only have 25 mil on the books for 2021 season. I wish they would just get it done.
